Do you think it is strange that neither one of use wants to travel? Hubby and I have been retired for four years now and except for a car trip just here in Florida and my one or two teachings out of town trips. We don't want to go anywhere.

I did lots of going when I was younger and hubby being in the army when he was young and traveled all over Europe etc. I think we had enough.

I find that retired people are always going on a trip somewhere and I thought we were strange lol...we just love to be home because for one..there is nothing I would much rather do than quilt or paint or knit or make a doll..that is the ultimate vacation for me lol....and hubby is just happy watching his races and games and working in the yard and doing housework.

We do go visit friends and family but that is it.

I'll tell you what. . .I am only 35 and my husband is 40. We love to be home. I think some people like to travel - maybe some just don't.

My husband and I have done different jobs thru the years but for 11 1/2 years we team drove a big truck. He drove a million miles and I drove a million miles. Now I am very content to stay at home. He is working locally, and I have a 4 hrs a week job. Many days go by that the phone does not ring nor do we go anywhere. The nearest shopping area is 60 miles away. Love living here. Love my life. Love quilting.

I am a total homebody, too!I have really never been anywhere, and dont want too, lol! I love peace and quiet!
I live in the country, and hate to go to the city where I work even...so, no youre not alone!

my hubby and i traveled some when he retired but neither one of us likes to be away from home more than 2 days, we both like being in our own surroundings, so no you are not alone

I don't think you're strange at all! I like to do the "day trip" stuff (like a visit to a LQS in another town or anything else related to quilting - imagine that :oops: ) But when I go, I leave hubby at home :lol: :lol: :lol:

I'm with you. We've been retired for about 5 years and we don't do any traveling, except to see family. We "travel" a lot between Austin and Lubbock, and that pretty much keeps us worn out. I also hate to fly now with all the airport hassles. As our grandson gets older, I'm sure there will be trips in our future...Disney world is already on his must see list. He just has to get tall enough to get on the rides.

My family... dad, mom and brother moved to florida 24 yrs ago. Sis moved to W Pa. 25 yrs ago.So I would visit all the time. DH and I would travel other places and we enjoyed the time away. It was always a plane ride away.We realized we never liked our house so we're trying to find a new location(out of state some where else) to call home. We want a home that will be our vacation. So we don't have to escape our home FOR a vacation.

So long story short staying home is fine... if you enjoy it... there's nothing wrong with it! What's that old saying... "every mans castle is his home " well thats what it is suppose to feel like. And your doing it! So enjoy! ;)

Not strange at all. Everyone is different. My husband and I both love to travel, and we enjoy being at home most of the time also. One of my coworkers hates travel, except for the occasional driving trip to the beach. They plan to retire to their cabin on a lake next year, and spend most weekends there now.

My mom always wanted to go go go. That was until they bought their own house. (They lived in a mobile home in a rather bad neighborhood before) After that both were happy to stay home and remodel to their hearts content. They turned that poor house into a doll house.

When we retired 5 yrs ago, we planned on long winters in the south OR going full-time. House didn't sell, so full-time RVing was out. We spent 3 months heading to Florida 4 yrs ago. Got as far as Texas and family health issues forced us home early. Then this winter we went to Arizona for 4 months. Truthfully, I'm very happy being home and being able to do my crafts. DH has his projects he works on. I noticed that on the road, the people either loved to golf (you can do that anywhere) or play bingo. We do neither, so we would get bored. Generally, you travel a lotta hours, then camp for a week or two....in that week or two you explore. You can explore only so many times in a week and you get tired!!!! No -- I like "roadtrips"....but as far as long-term RVing....no thanks.

As much as I love to travel, I can fully understand those who don't enjoy it :D:D:D

Oh soooo cool...and then I didn't mention our four darlings. I hate to leave my dogs, I miss them so much...If i was rich, I would buy a house in the mountains....I love the mountains..it is so quite and serene..I would stay in that mountain 6 months of year lol.

I don't think it is strange at all. Retirement is doing all of the things that you have put off while working or raising children or the like. Do what makes you happy. We are retired (only two years here) and relish every minute. I feel like I've thrown away the clock and schedules.......It is such a relief (I never thought I would say that as I absolutely loved my job and my DH did as well.......)

I don't think it strange. Sounds like you have travelled in your younger years and now don't want to roam so far from home. That's not a bad thing.

I love staying home! We traveled a lot between the east coast and Alaska and decided we enjoyed being home more than ever. I do a little without hubby but not much. He hates being among lots of people and would never do a tour or anything. And the way things are traveling now, forget it. I hate long lines and the feeling you are a terrorist at the airports. I am happy staying home but I would like to go to an occasional retreat for 3 days--I think that might start to happen soon as my leash has gotten longer. LOL Hubby and I both have things we like to do at home. So Rosy you are not alone! And not strange!

there is no place like home, so much to do at home with our pets, crafts and just sit back and enjoy life

I used to travel alot in my younger years. Now I'm pretty much a recluse. Totally by choice. If I could have my groceries and such delivered, I'd probably never leave the house. As it is, sometimes I might never leave the house for a couple weeks at a time. My next door neighbor thinks I'm strange but then she is in her 30's with small children. (If I had small kids, I'd probably be running (away?) all the time too!) I'm not a social person unless I've really got something in common with someone. My DH calls me a female howard hughs, without the money!

I must admit I will always travel to a good quilt show if its less than 800 miles away. More than that, I get too tired of driving and I am always the chosen driver. DH & I grew up all over the world, so that kind of travel is boing, I can see it on TV and remember.

Not strange at all. Most people the world over don't travel as leisure, and most people all through time didn't.

I think many retirees travel now because they couldn't when they were younger. And, of course, some people just love to travel.

But it's not abnormal not to want to travel, especially if you've already done enough of it to satisfy yourselves. Enjoy your life at home and in your community.

Not strange...to each his own! However my hubs and I love to go go go!!! If we could afford it we would buy a motor home and be gone at least 70% of the time!

Wow! I'm glad to know I'm not alone here! I don't shop for clothes either. I'm a jeans/t-shirt/sweatshirt and now sweatpants (love that elastic waist) kind of girl. I've never been what I would call a mall-rat, something my 29 year old daughter still holds against me :lol: She has always thought I was a horrible mother cuz I wouldn't take her to the mall!

#1- I just enjoy being at home, it's a chore to go somewhere.
#2- My DH is disabled/in poor health and I hate leaving him alone.

I used to have kin folk in Jacksonville and my oldest friend has lived there the past 30+ years. I was born and raised in Orlando. Small World! :thumbup:

We have online grocery delivery here, only my dh insists that it's "good for me" to get out to shop. I try to gather everything into one day where I have to go out, and if I'm lucky spend the rest of the week at home!

I just make plans with my friends and then I TELL him where/when we're going :lol: :lol:

I don't think that is strange at all. My wish is someday be able to sew all day and never have to go ANYWHERE! We like being home together. We both have our own hobbies so it works out great. I'm with you all the way! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Oh, I envy you! Seems like I have run out for milk more than anything. I try to grocery shop in bulk and keep the freezer full.
Wonder if you can freeze milk?

LOL, eightylady, my kids know better than to ask me to go anywhere! I only see my DGD when DD brings her over.

I retired 2 years ago after 38 years of teaching. I felt I deserved a trip. Did not even have a passport. Trip to Barcelona was wonderful. Trip to Brazil was very costly and disappointing. Enjoy your home and don't worry about what everyone else is doing.

My husband and I love to travel, even if it's just a day trip over the mountain.

My DH & I don't like to be gone from home for long periods of time. And we really prefer to only go places that we can take our dogs with us. The Houston Quilt Show in the Fall is the exception & I really have to talk myself into going then! I am bad I know but I do love those dogs.LOL And I love our home. Not that it is anything grand or special, but it is comfy & home. So you are normal I would say.
