I live in Bucks, UK and I have a very large (what we call)American fridge/freezer. I also have what we call a combined fridge/freezer which has a freezer on the bottom and a fridge on the top which stands about 7ft tall.

Although Keeping Up Appearances in a fantastic programme, it is quite an old one... and we Brits have almost caught up to our American cousins where fridge/freezers are concerned.

Now when it comes to washing machines ..... we are way behind! We tend to have front loaders that take a dry load of 6 - 7 lbs only. I would kill for one of your fantastically large top loaders!

Just curious, to all of you Brits - when you by a major appliance, does the electrical cord come with it, or do you have to buy that separately like we do?

I'm in Australia and the electrical cord definitely does come with appliances, they are integral. I am astounded you have to buy the cord separately.

Not only do we automatically get the cord, but the plug is sort of welded on it too. The only thing we have to buy cords for is our printers :-(

I have a lovely American style side by side fridge and freezer in my kitchen which is plumbed into the water supply so that I have chilled water and ice cubes at the push of a button.

These started to be available about 10 years ago, but lots of modern houses have built in side by side, larder fridges and freezers which go under the counter and look like the cabinets.

Must admit, I was a makeover show set in the States and there the lady of the house wanted a fridge large enough to take her platters. That fridge was nearly the size of my kitchen!! LOL

Speaking of British comedies... are there any Mr. Bean fans out there?

Our printers DO come with the cord - and the reason (they say) that large appliances don't come with them is because the wiring in different houses are different. I'm not sure I buy that..........and they tell you NOT to transfer the cord from your older appliance.

to make more money out of you? But it could be a safety measure as the old cord could be damaged in someway - with age the wires inside can damage, cause a short and a fire. So, guess that better to be sure with a new one, than be in danger.
