So, the other day I was in Joann's WITHOUT my daughter and I was in heaven. I had an armful of fabric bolts and was happily checking out more. I was in the bargain aisle and I knelt down to check out a bolt that caught my eye. Then I heard..."RRRRRRRIIIIPPPPP!"
I just stayed down, reached back and felt for the damage. Oh....My. My jeans had just ripped out. I don't mean a little hole...I mean "bottom-hanging-out" ripped out! I sat there for a minute and contemplated..........then got up, pulled my jacket down and made my way to the cutting table! No way was I leaving without my fabric!!
On the bright side....I HAVE been collecting jeans for a denim rag quilt for years. Usually it is my Hubsters jeans. Now it will feature one of my casualty's too!!
:)
Have a fantastic day everyone!! :)

That is the most awesome story today!

M.E.H. 01-07-2011 08:02 AM

LOL!! Sorry that was not nice of me  BUT you did get your fabric and that is GOOD!!

oatw13 01-07-2011 08:02 AM

Oh, my! lol

quiltinggrandmaca 01-07-2011 08:05 AM

That would be so embarrassing, but glad you stuck it out and got your fabric.

Tink's Mom 01-07-2011 08:09 AM

   I guess that you had 1 too many cookies! Good for you that you didn't let that fabric get away....and you got some bonus fabric, too! lol

amma 01-07-2011 08:32 AM

Oh My!! I am glad that you didn't let it deter you from bringing home all of that fabric  :D:D:D

littlehud 01-07-2011 08:38 AM

Oh my.......you did handle it well though. I wouldn't want to leave without my fabric either.

joan_quilts 01-07-2011 09:07 AM

That would be my luck too! Hey, a sale is a sale and you just can't let a rip stop you from shopping! LOL

KathyAire 01-07-2011 09:09 AM

The moral to that story is - always wear a sweater or jacket that you can take off and tie around your waist to cover your butt............

kriscraft99 01-07-2011 09:09 AM

oh now that is funny!! Yeah... new fabric on sale :D that makes it all better

0tis 01-07-2011 09:30 AM

I love it - hey the show must go on - thank goodness you had a sweater to wrap around - at least you got the fabric. Woo hoo...

Willa 01-07-2011 09:51 AM

craftybear 01-07-2011 10:20 AM

rofl, thanks for sharing, so now everytime you go fabric shopping you will think of your jeans ripping and start laughing outload and others around you will wonder why you are laughing

that made my day, rofl

glad you found some fabric to buy

Airwick156 01-07-2011 10:37 AM

At least you were alone and not with your daughter if she is young. She could have made it worse, by announcing that you just ripped out your pants and now everyone can see your "granny panties". :)

Murphy 01-07-2011 10:38 AM

Great save (laughter). Covering the backside and moving on was an awesome move. Thanks for sharing.

Quilter7x 01-07-2011 10:41 AM

pojo 01-07-2011 11:34 AM

I'm not laughing at you. but with you.
now you need to go shopping for new jeans and use the old ones in a quilt you will always remember those patches in the quilt and you will get a chuckle too.

Ditter43 01-07-2011 01:02 PM

I bet you felt a draft when you went out! I'm glad you had a jacket to cover up with so you could get your fabric!

wolph33 01-07-2011 01:04 PM

ann clare 01-07-2011 03:57 PM

luvTooQuilt 01-07-2011 04:05 PM

LMAO or better yet YOURS!!!

I lost count how many times hubby has done that to majority his dress pants.. the worst one was when we were headed to a funeral for a wonderful quilting friend (I miss you Luise! ). We stopped for gas and as hubby was getting into the SUV we heard the the familiar sound.. Yup, you guessed it, we Had to make another pit stop and headed for the nearest mens store..

sandpat 01-07-2011 04:14 PM

Well, you go girl....that is GO home and quilt! I'm sorry...that is just too funny! At least you have your priorities right though--got that fabric!

hperttula123 01-07-2011 06:53 PM

lol...I had that happen right before Christmas, but I was at work. Now, I only have two pair of work jeans and I swap them everyday so one can go in the wash. They are really thread bare but I can't see buying more because they are supposed to be shutting the doors soon....so I just keet wearing them. Anyways, I went and sat down at lunch and felt the rip, I was a little nervous to find out how much ripped. It was about 7 inches. I had to find some duct tape and go to the bathroom and tape them up so I could go back to work. I think it's time for another pair of jeans...lol.

Jingle 01-07-2011 07:24 PM

I have never had that happen but, I too would have continued to have my fabrics cut. Since it is behind you only the people behind you could see it and most people wouldn't say anything to you. Way to go, good decision.

trueimage 01-07-2011 07:31 PM

we DO have our priorities!!!! great story...and you're a great sport!

Boscobd 01-07-2011 07:35 PM

Great save and way to show true dedication to our wonderful quilting hobby!

sandy12010 01-07-2011 07:38 PM

I would be in a pickle if that happened to me for I dont wear a coat most of the time...so I dont know if I would of continued to the cutting table or not...
but yea I would of been all red faced too

C.Cal Quilt Girl 01-07-2011 07:43 PM

Thanks for the laugh, happened once at work... Wooops that lunch went a little long, had to put stitches my britches!!
Never thought of the Duct tape, isn't that just the greatest stuff!! :)

quilt3311 01-08-2011 05:45 AM

Sounds like you handled it well. I agree you could NOT leave without your fabric. grin.

pkelly1947 01-08-2011 05:50 AM

Most people would have left the bolts on the floor & run out of the store. Only a serious sewer/quilter would have waited & got all her fabric cut first. LOL

hikingquilter 01-08-2011 07:21 AM

Good for you! Nothing stands in the way of a quilter and her fabric! LOL

emsgranny 01-08-2011 07:32 AM

That is just too funny  I always take a jacket or wear a very long shirt etc...I have bladder problems (yeah you guessed it!!) Doesnt happen often since I wear poise pads but sometimes its not enough...Just like a fabric sale  I have no control :D

amandasgramma 01-08-2011 08:33 AM

ROFLMBO!!!!! That's funny! sorry ----- reminds me of the lady that ran her car thru the front window of Joann's. While waiting for tow truck, she went on in and bought her fabric....gotta love quilters, they have their priorities straight!

Poakie 01-08-2011 09:31 AM

That is such a funny story. Sorry!!! At least you got your fabric. We are such dedicated quilters!

Ellis' Granny B 01-08-2011 10:28 AM

Now you can make that great jean quilt and name it "Out Back"

chickadeee55 01-08-2011 11:14 AM
