Use your space to it's best advantage. And how it makes you happy.
If you do have guests, I bet they would enjoy a tour of your accomplishments of this great equipment.

Go for it, my quilting machine and a sewing area are in my living room. Rest is in studio. Hubby wanted me to be in the same area he was in the evenings, so installed all my sewing stuff there. Gotta love that man!! He watches his TV shows to the hum of one or the other of the machines.

I have never understood the sense behind having a formal living room. Now days people aren't as "formal" with entertaining.
I say you should use that space in whatever way would get the most use! So it that would be a quilting room go for it!.
Life if WAY TO SHORT not to do things we really enjoy!
