I could use one of those in my yard, I hate squirrels, they keep the birds away from the feeders, and it is so cold here.

That is a beautiful little owl but I always thought they were only out at night.

Looks like a adolecent burrowing owl to me.

red tailed hawk. I had the same discussion with the family after one was on the side of the pool last summer. It left a pellet behind to help.
They are native to PA. |

I sent the pictures to my cousin, who is an avid birder, who then sent them to another person who is a specialist with hawks.
This is his reply: "Head shape and light crown rule out Coopers Hawk. Stocky build suggests buteo, if I could see throat and tail it would be easy. So, if throat is clear it is a Broad-winged, if dark a Red-shouldered sub adult. My guess is Broad-wing." Hope this helps the debate. |
