Bless you. I was in the hospital for several weeks and I was constantly searching for my phone. It was usually under me or on the floor

I made my MIL a couple of 10x10 bags that hung on the side of the bed using Velcro -- she didn't have a cell phone but used it for her glasses, Kleenex, nail file, etc. Fast forward 15 years and I was facing knee surgery so I made a pair for myself to hold cell phone, kindle and chargers. The folks at the hospital and at the rehab/nursing home loved them and had the folks who make things for the patients come look at what I did. I made them out of a double thickness of home dec fabric because it is heavier. One was just a big pocket and one has smaller pockets for pens and sticky notes (and I have to say I used the sticky notes a lot). I tried to upload a picture but it failed. The two bags fit across the bar of the walker.

Here's a tutorial for a bed caddy that could be converted into a bed rail caddy. What I liked about it is that it is "doubled up" with room for a laptop, newspaper or magazine. If you scroll down past the tutorial to the section "How to Use" you will see what I'm talking about. Maybe you could take bits & pieces from several different patterns & make it to best meet the patients needs. I'm thinking you wouldn't want it too large but when my DH was in the hospital last year, it really would have been nice to have one for that hospital TV/nurse call control. It was always hard to find a good place to put that thing.
