I'm wondering if you can give us some links to this information. Near as I could find, the pictures are being kidnapped, not the children. Bad enough. Several stories about this went viral but aren't true. So, I'm hoping you have the links of the real versions so we can educate ourselves. Is this part of the Amber Alert? Thanks.

Your name, name of known relatives, address, phone number and any other info about you is online and anyone can get all the real personal details for $30. Look up you name on People Search. Anyone can search for your name in any obit for years back. Thus getting your maiden name, name of relatives, etc. No one is off the grid. As far as Facebook I made up a profile, even a fake name for my Facebook page. It's for quilting related things. My kids will send me emails or text me pictures of the grand activities.

I just searched for the actual story. I could not find it either, but will say that if it might keep a child safe from pedophiles, I will pass it on. As the mother of a child preyed upon by a pedophile, I want to do everything to spare another mother or father and child the pain. I would rather pass it and be found wrong, than not post it and find out it was true....

of course you would do anything to keep your children safe. I have never "known" any person whose child was preyed upon by a pedophile who found them on the Internet. Yikes!!

My rule of thumb is to assume others out there in cyber space are way smarter than I am!! ... lurking because they have nothing better to do OR they can't think of anything constructive and beneficial to do for others. And they are out to do evil if they can.

Our smart phones list locations, etc. of where we are. I just assume if you don't have everything locked down on your smart phone, that when you take photos and post them info gets out on the web. To what end someone else will take it, I do not know.

A lot of caution is a very good thing in anything that has to do with the Internet!

This was just up on a website. Kits were "plucked from hotels, casinos and truck stops, among other locations". So we have to keep our kids close even out in the world.

I saw in the news today that German police warn parents not to post photos of their kids.

"It warns that such photos may be used by bullies or pedophiles and notes that children are entitled to privacy".

that is so true about protecting them and about their privacy. I've read about the privacy thing before - kids have no say in what is posted and later may resent it, assuming it just annoys them and doesn't leave them vulnerable to being a victim.

I should mention that most "bad" people wouldn't even have to create a login to get information posted here.
