I like looking at all the pictures & getting all kinds of ideas from there.

bunbytes 03-03-2012 07:27 PM

Now that's an idea! It's like looking a quilting magazines in the car, but without the paper. I have to get the app.

Pinterest is great because you can narrow the category to whatever interests you. I find it inspiring. Myocean12, just go to pinterest.com and have a look around. You don't have to register to browse. I have not signed up and see no reason to participate in that way, but there are times when I enjoy some idle scrolling along. If you can't think what to cook, for example, you can look at food. That almost always inspires me, although most of the most popular foods are sweets.

I look, I see, I drool and yes, I Pin it. But, I do not go everyday, I do need a break from this computer. Oh bother, I do need to get the house work done, no one else does it. sigh

AKDaffyodil 03-03-2012 11:27 PM

EllieGirl, I feel the same way. I have an account there but I don't get the whole purpose of the thing. But all my friends think it's neato.

GladGrams 03-04-2012 04:00 AM

Took a look at it, but when it wanted to download all my already existing information, I deep-sixed it.

I don't watch TV hardly at all and would much prefer to "waste my time" looking at Pinterest.

Great explanation. I was just looking and looking and trying to remember or printing these out until someone pointed out that you can create your own boards. It is a great place to find things.

I am going to have to come out of the closet here... I spend much more time on Pinterest than I do here! I just haven't been enthused about the changes here. And I find so much inspiration for quilts, organizing my house, and garden ideas on Pinterest.

forgot to mention , that facebook has a block on , so you cannot pin any pictures from there.

actually you do NOT need to copyright a picture, you OWN it, there for it is yours and nobody had the right to STEAL it and do what they want with it!

obie2 03-04-2012 08:04 AM

I'm signed on to it too, but do not know how to get around on it.

feffertim 03-04-2012 08:49 AM

I think it is a wonderful site, I love looking at all the interesting things, especially the quilting and I have also found some fabulous recipes there. I have several boards for organizing things and think it is a really fun site. If antyone wants an invitation, PM me and I will send you one. You have to have an invite to join.

Cacklinghen 03-04-2012 09:01 AM

no big deal to me...

whatever 03-04-2012 09:44 AM

I just started looking at it

technomommie 03-04-2012 09:49 AM

I am addicted to it. I keep finding things I want to try around the house on there

mimiknoxtaylor 03-04-2012 09:50 AM

EllieGirl, I'm on it & it is addictive! You have to get an invite to join. If you need one you can PM me

GrandmaJeanne 03-04-2012 10:47 AM

I here ya EllieGirl, my niece also thinks it the best thing, so she got me hooked up, but I too just can't get into it.

SandyFay 03-04-2012 12:22 PM

I agree with your daughter!! It is addictive! HaHa! Type in quilts in the search box and you will find lots and lots of ideas and pictures!

gmaybee 03-04-2012 01:03 PM

My DIL invited me to join. I don't know how to navigate around on it or how to use it. I'm waiting until my next trip to Indiana so she can show me how to use it.

MamaO2011 03-04-2012 01:05 PM

I'm addicted. My husband thought I was nuts. Then he asked for an invite. Now he has more "pins" than I do!!

sosewcrazy 03-04-2012 02:37 PM

I absolutely love Pinterest! It's like clipping out magazine articles I want to save, but doing it electronically and putting them on the computer instead of all over the house, LOL! I've tried many teaching ideas, recipes, household hints, organization tips, and craft ideas. It's like anything else - use it the way you want to and how it works best for you.

Gee, thanks annasgirl. I wasn't on the computer enough lately, LOL! Seriously, thanks for this!

danece 03-04-2012 09:14 PM

I have found some great stuff on pinterest, cooking, cleaning tips, even gardening, just check it out, it's not as fun as this board, but it has some very clever ideas

I want to back Jacquie up on this, because it is absolutely true, not just pictures, but words and other intellectual property belong to the person who created them and are not there for the pickin'. To anyone out there who wants to possibly use your own picture in, say, a book that you will publish later, think twice before putting it up on the Internet because theft of intellectual property is so rampant that many people just assume there's nothing wrong with it.

There is a concept of fair use, but that's pretty murky water and hard to defend in court, unless you've studied the law and know for certain that what you're doing falls into that category. That said, it's not likely that anyone will ever have reason to raid your computer and discover that you've saved screen shots of various quilts and poems or whatever for your own inspiration and reference later. If you're not spreading these things around without permission and failing to give credit to the person they belong to, and if you're not using them to make a profit, you are probably on safe ground. It's just time for people to show a little more respect for the creative works of others.

DebraK 03-05-2012 06:05 AM

me too. I love browsing, and most times, what you see is what you get. No misleading post names to deal with. I've cooked many of the recipes that I've pinned, and have saved many delightful patterns and ideas. I find the site to be quite useful .

sewnsewer2 03-05-2012 07:22 AM

If there was a way to sign up WITHOUT having to have a facebook account, I would. I want nothing to do with facebook!

This is true of a hard copy photograph. No one can come into your abode legally and take the photo from you without facing legal ramifications. However, when you transmit a photo electronically to the internet and it is not registered as a copyrighted photo, you MAKE IT public domain when you put it on your blog/this board/etc!! Anyone can save the photo, print it out, make flyers of it if they want....the person who makes it public can do nothing about it (unless they have a registered copyright and can prove that the use of their photo affected the market negatively).
That does not not mean that it's right to do it. It just means there is no legal recourse for the owner unless they have a copyright, and even then, it's costly and a long road to prove copyright infringement.
This http://www.tabberone.com/Trademarks/...extTheft.shtml was posted in links and resources and it's quite informative. Real live laws are cited and backed up with case law. There is very interesting reading about patterns and quilt designs as well.

It may work for some people but for me it was sensory overload.

carolinewood 03-06-2012 09:43 PM

Not me but few of my friends are there on Pinterest. I have heard lots of good reviews about it.

QuiltedCritterLady 03-07-2012 12:14 AM

I'm with you EllieGirl ... it looks like one more thing to chew up some time.

I think that viewing Pinterest as something that just eats up time is a mistake. Sure, if one just sits there looking at random pretty pictures all day, yes that is a waste of time. The same thing can AND has been said of this board. However, if it is used as a tool to help organize visual information then it can be helpful. Personally, the only time I log onto Pinterest is if I see something online that I want to save and go back to. I may look at others pins if something catches my eye and I do have a very few select people that I follow but it doesn't consume all of my day.
