Pinterest
Does anyone follow this? My older daughter thinks it's the neatest thing since sliced bread. I can't get into it.
My dil and niece are avid. I think it's "just one more thing" to keep up with. I already stay more tied to this computer than I want to.
I am totally addicted! I even have the app on my iPhone. :)
I love it!

I find it fascinating, just love looking at all the pictures on any topic imaginable.
My DD thinks it is wonderful, she helped my join and get going on it while visiting this passed weekend. So far I like it.
I'm signed up but have not learned my way around yet. The Quilting Board is the only "time eater" I need. I spend WAY to much time here.....but I love it!
I'm with erstan947.

I do not know what Pinterest is. Can someone help me?
I agree, I don't see it as a big deal
Pinterest is an online pinboard, i.e., kind of like a digital bullentin board. You can set up "boards" for any topic that you choose. I have recipes, my son's upcoming birthday party ideas, clothing, quilting, etc. Then when you are browsing around Pinterest or the internet if you see something that you like you can "pin" it to your board.
I like it because it helps to visually organize things, it keeps my bookmarks from filling up, and since it is online you can access it from anywhere. So, for example, say you are visiting with a friend and you remember that you wanted to show her a new pattern or techinique that you "bookmarked". If you pinned it on Pinterest you would just log into your account and show it to her. With a regular bookmark you couldn't do that you would have to wait until you got home to email her the link. The other thing that is nice about it is there is no more forgetting why in the heck you bookmarked that site because they have moved the site or the link is dead. Is it another time waster? Yes. However, I think it can be a nice tool if utilized properly. And since quilters are such visual people it just makes sense. |

Thanks for the explanation! All along I had thought it was just a place where you looked at other people's "stuff". I thought ... "why?". The way you explain it, it sounds like a tool I could use. I currently drop pictures of quilts that I see here on QB and elsewhere into different folders on my desktop. Convenient yes, but only possible to access from my PC. If I'm traveling and find something interesting while browsing on my IPad I have to remember to find it again when I'm home on my PC to drop a picture of it somewhere. I might have to check into PInterest! |
It's as bad as this place...I get to many ideas and not enough time to do them all!!!
AFQ Sinc - Thanks. Your explanation makes so much sense. I thought it was just a place to see other's stuff. I like having access to my bookmarked stuff when I'm traveling.
I joined and do take a look about twice a week, but I find it a bit over whelming so much to look at and so many repeats.
I am a memeber but havent figured out how to use it yet.....
AFQ Sinc ... great explanation. I find it's like looking through a magazine and tearing out pages to keep for later reference but you immediately put it onto organized boards and there's no having to look through binders or files where you may have put them. I don't watch TV hardly at all and would much prefer to "waste my time" looking at Pinterest.

A question about Pinterest and QB.
Can I "pin" something from QB, and if I do, how would it work? For example ... I see a picture of quilt on QB that I like and want to pin. Most of the "pins" that I see are photographs. Do I "pin" the thread with the picture of the quilt that I like and the picture is automatically the image that I see on my board? Or do I somehow pin the actual picture? The reason I ask is that after viewing a bunch of pin's (via a search on the word "quilt"), none of them were links from the QB and I thought that was odd. because there is so much stuff here. |
I have some pins from the quilting board on my pinterest. Matter of fact i have 3 boards set up just for quilting and patterns and tutorials.
It is amazing what you can find there, I am totally addicted. |
I"m on it - every day. It's a great place to pin things you like, want to do, or to pin your own things for others to see. Some pins lead you to tutorials of how to do them, some to where you can buy the item you see.
If you see something on the internet or a blog or web site that you like that is a photo you can pin it to your account to one of the boards you have created. Then you can refer back to it, and so can all the other members of Pinterest. You have to have an invitation to be a member. Or you can go on to the site and ask to be a member. If you have someone invite you it's is quicker to become a member. http://pinterest.com/ If you want an invite send me a PM. I'll need your email to invite you. Phyllis QuiltingGrannie |
please be aware that you need to read ALL the rules about what you post and what you pin. THey (pinterest) are really under the gun do to copyright infringements.
If you pin something you find on this board, please make sure it is YOURS...do not pin pix of other peoples works, unless you get their permission! here is just one of the artists blogs about the issues involving pinterest! http://www.tracibunkers.com/blog/201...home_multiline |

I looked at it one day. Didn't sign up as I was afraid it would be a time consuming thing. MY dd really likes it tho. I may give it another look.
I am a member but still not sure how to pin things and to set up my boards. I laugh every time I get a notice that someone is following me because I'm not going anywhere! Haha also I do most of my browsing on my iPad and I believe things are a little different than with a pc. I really haven't taken the time to really dig in and learn.
My DD loves Pinterest. After reading this, I think I need to check it out.
not too exciting....alot of artsie stuff....not into it either
I belong but don't really understand it.
I'm addicted to it! It is a great way to store ideas to some day use without having to print them out. Also to view what other quilters are interested in. I also got some good recipes stored. When I want to use one, I just click on it and I will get the instructions or recipe
I do it but don't really get it!!
I also think it is just one more thing to keep me sitting here on this infernal machine.
I unsubscribed yesterday. I couldn't get into it, for one thing. Then, one of the bloggers I follow posted the terms and conditions where it states that you have to have the permission of the owner of any copyrighted information to pin their sites. Too much trouble for me.
I guess this pinterest in another social media thing...........too much time looking at screens, I would rather look at someone's face and talk to them....but I guess I am old fashioned.........I look at it as just another way to intrude on my privacy....so I won't go there....email is bad enough............
I love it, I have it on every computer, Ipad and phone that I own.
I can't sau I'm addicted - I put cool things on my boards that I think I'll go back to, but spend so much time on this board that I seldom look at my pins!
After reading Jacquie's comment and exploring the provided link, not for me.

I might have to check into PInterest! Also... Have you all tried Dropbox? It's a free file backup system that works great. After a system crash that happened after I had not made back ups of my files for a few months, we now store and work on all our files through Dropbox. I do all my work in those files and they are updated as soon as you save the file whenever you add or make changes. No more worrying about lost work if you didn't do a backup! I bring this up because it is accessible from any online device and you can also share files across the Internet... like if you were working on a group project or wanted to show someone something you had saved. Hand in hand it seems like Pinterest and Dropbox would have you totally covered. |
