Pinterest?????
Here is my question: What is Pinterest???? I just me-gifted and iPad and my daughter then said she added me to Pinterest....this morning I have several emails from people I do not know saying they are pinning me>>>>>>I do not know if I want this...please someone explain this "new world" to me...thanks.....If you want to do it PM that's ok too.......
It's a place where you look for things you are interested in, and then "pin it" to a board you have created. It reminds me of the old recipe card files, or other "ideas" card files. You're not actually receiving emails from the individual but from Pinterest itself. It automatically notifies you when someone pinned something you liked. So far it seems harmless regarding posting things. I can't see the big hullabaloo about it. My older daughter is obsessed with it. We made Christmas cookies Saturday and she made several from recipes she had found on Pinterst.

I LOVE Pinterest!! so many great ideas about any topic you can imagine! I've made several recipes found there with success. My sweet DIL couldn't believe I knew JUST what she wanted... I admitted I'd scoped out her boards on Pinterest! And when I opened my gift from her and DS, it was something I'd pinned on Pinterest!! We had a great laugh on that one!!
Try it!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!! |

I love it. I follow others who have posted quilt photos and also some of the quilting magazines. You can "unfollow" at anytime. Some I follow have stuff I'm not interested it and I unfollow just that board but still get to see a whole new world of quilts. It took me a while to "get it" and now I'm hooked.
I love Pinterest as well!! I find so many things that I love on there. I have made several things for my home that I saw on Pinterest and have tried several recipes that I really liked!!
My DD put me on it also, she loves it and spends a lot of time on it. I don't have much time to spend on the computer so I use that time for the board.
Well I didn't think I would like it either but now I LOVE IT. I don't get any emails - maybe I didn't sign up correctly or my spam filters them out, but that's ok I don't want any. There are so many cute quilting ideas out there and a lot of them take you to links.
I don't think you have anything to be alarmed about. When people "follow" you, it simply means that they are looking at the things you've pinned on your boards. They do not have access to any personal info, unless you upload your own pictures of your house with your address clearly visible, or pictures of your credit cards, etc.
Pinterest is basically a visual bookmarking site. You know how you bookmark something you want to come back to? Well, this is the same thing, except the bookmarks are all pictures. My pinterest board is full of recipes; pictures of quilts (VERY inspirational); funny pictures of silly animals (makes my youngest son giggle); beautiful kitchens (so if I ever get the chance to renovate I have some wonderful ideas); lovely places around the world that I hope to see someday, and so forth. The only thing that is on my Pinterest board is my name, and you do not have to use your real name if you choose not to. You can change your settings to not receive notifications of when people follow you, etc. |
You take things you like, want to do, inspiration, and pin it to the board to remind you later. Its kind of like when you see quilts you like here and bookmark them but on a larger scale, you can actually pin anything anywhere even here to pinterest
I really like pinterest just haven't figured out how to set up different boards yet but maybe I will get time to work on it now that Christmas is over
My two daughters made me a Pinterest account - at first I thought it was silly and hard to figure out - but now - I LOVE IT - and look at it every night - very relaxing before bed. It is just like the bookmarks on this site - but for the whole internet. Everytime you see something that you want to remember, you just PIN IT. Somebody can show you how to set up different boards - recipes, quilts, cute animal pictures, household hints, etc. I have over 100 quilts in my "quilting board" and looked through the pictures recently and noticed that I "pin" quilts that have a lot of white in them.
I am addicted!! All those beautiful quilts in one place. You can just delete the email about others pinning. I really can't see the benefit of that either.

No, I don't think it is a brag book - it is just ideas for me to use someday - I used to print off every recipe that I would think looked good and print off every quilt that I liked - so now I just "pin it" and put it into a "folder" on Pinterest. That way, I am not using so much ink for my printer. Most of the recipes have the actual recipe with it - but not the quilts - just the pictures. Some do have the directions, but most do not. So, if somebody posts a really neat picture of a quilt on here and I just love the colors, or the layout, etc. I will just "pin it" (my daughter put a "pin it" shortcut on my toolbar. So, I just have to click on "pin it" and a box will pop up and ask which board I want to "pin it" to - Quilts, Recipes, Cute animal pictures, household hints, etc. HTH

I wasn't sure of Pinterst and won't put anything of mine on it as it becomes public domain if I understand it correctly. I like to see the items on there but am very disappointed when the original site is not included in the re-pinning of sites. I do like the fact of seeing many differents sites for inspiration, ideas and just plain ol fashioned enjoyment.

Pinterest? Be Afraid! Be very afraid! It is ADDICTIVE and you can spend hours just scrolling, looking and scrolling and looking and looking.... It's like a huge catalog-encyclopedia-fashion runway-recipebook-travelogue-atlas-..... etc.
I do not "pin". There is not enough cyber-space on the cyber-bulletin board to hold all my "likes". I get pleasure from looking and dreaming, if there is something special (recipe or design) I'll note the webpage or save the photo. Yes, and beware of the public domain., but enjoy the "trip". Caveat Emptor. |
It is an addictive black hole of information. It is truly awesome. You can find so many ideas, free patterns, recipes, and usable craft ideas. You will never see them all.
I made a couple new Christmas goodies this year just from recipes I discovered on Pinterest. I am new there too just learning my way around.
Made Peanut Butter bark, my family loves Peanut butter... I have never heard of PB bark. Sugar bar cookies, wow was that a time saver.. I believe its true, our only fear is the addiction possibilities...:D |
My daughter just put me on Pinterest last evening...Not sure how it works but it does look interesting....
It's like you have a bulletin board that you can "pin" things that you are interested to in. You will love it when you get the hang of it and there is just so much to look at on it.
I love Pinterest. I wish it was around 30-40 years ago when I was young and could do many of the projects I see. I can spend hours on it. (I set a timer so I will not stay on for hours). I would rather be on Pinterest than facebook. I forget about facebook and end up only going on once every couple weeks, Pinterest I go to someone's board every day.

I love Pinterest! Full of ideas, crafts, recipes, etc. give it a chance to see what you think, at first I wasn't sure either. Once I got into it, I was hooked. You can unsubscribe from emails.

I love Pintrest too. I use it to hold quilt, knit and crochet patterns I find. Also other things, but I like to use it instead of bookmarks because it has the picture of the item. I think you'll really like it when you get the hang of it.
I love Pinterest too--I enjoy seeing all the quilts people make and repinning them so those who follow me can see them and I can check out what the people I am following are pinning. I see what my granddaughter pins--mostly house decorating pictures and tips.

....those who follow me can see......see what my gd pins.....this sounds so big brother........like being stalked........I think I will just pass on the whole thing......... |
I love........Pinterest.
Love Pinterest, it saves me from printing patterns/instructions for things I want to make. I just keep them on my boards, I spend way to much time there finding things that I want to do. People can follow up or you can follow other people.
After reading your posts I think I'm going to check it out!! Thanks for the "Interest in Pintrest!" :D
I love it. So many great ideas. And I'm thrilled when someone likes one of my pins and re-pins it.
Thanks for the questions and answers. My daughter uses it and "suggested" that I might enjoy it. Glad to get the information. I like the reference about pinning it to my bulletin board - but I always know that it's over my sewing table! Hopefully I'll be able to find this also.

Cherokeerose I have to say I love your board name! Just beautiful! Ok now on to the subject...I can't figure Pintrest out. Been there and tried to follow directions, I gave up! I may try it again...maybe.
I LOVE IT!!! All positives that were said above. Don't worry about the people following you. When your daughter "set you up", she assigned certain areas she thought you were interested in. It adds 1 thing in every category (to get you going).....and people saw it and like what "you" like and are following. My daughter follows me.....she sees the recipes I "like" or "repin" and knows they're probably economical. She said she's learning. Now --- about HER --- ROL --- she put a category in (you can assign your own)....that said "THINGS I WANT"..............so far I've been ignorant!!!LOL LOL
I find pinterest is almost as addicting as here! I love the recipes the most I have found some wonderful ones that have become new favorites in our house. I really like Gina from Skinnytaste she takes family favorites and makes them better and gives you the Weight Watcher counts as well. I also find a lot of quilting related videos and patterns as well. You can create your own boards and pin things to them. The person that you pinned from gets a notice that something you shared has been repinned. You can also link it so it shows up on your FB site as well if you wish. I really enjoy it, it's good to do when your waiting in your doctor's office like me lol

I signed up and I want to participate but can't figure out how to pin anything. I'm totally bummed......disappointed....

https://pinterest.com/about/goodies/ Or you can google "pinmarklet" and you should be able to find it. Lots of websites and blogs have pin buttons to make it easy, just click the "Pin It" button. Also, if you find a pin that you like, you can click on it, and in the corner of the picture you'll see a button that says "repin". Just click it, then choose which of your boards you want that picture to live on, or create a new board. Play around with it - you can always change things later, move them around or delete things if you want. |
it took me awhile but I am slowly learning someone on this board gave wonderful instructions but I do not have them with me
