Poll - How often do you wash your pets food and water bowls?

I'm just curious. I have two cats and a dachshund so I use the small metal food bowls and I have 11 of them handy so I can give them a clean bowl everytime I give them fresh food and water.

carolaug 02-22-2014 02:47 AM

I throw theirs in the dishwasher after every meal...just like I do our dishes.

Shelbie 02-22-2014 06:12 AM

I wash them every day.

nivosum 02-22-2014 07:51 AM

I wash them everyday.

Judith1005 02-22-2014 08:03 AM

Every meal. I feed mine twice a day. Small amounts.

tessagin 02-22-2014 08:09 AM

When their done eating at the end of the day, I wash their food dishes and water dishes. I just give them a quick wash in the sink.

irishrose 02-22-2014 08:10 AM

Every time I run the dishwasher - about every other day. Mine eat from glass bowls for their kibble meals and Corelle soup bowls for their raw meals.

Onebyone 02-22-2014 08:53 AM

I use disposable bowls for my dog's food so she gets a clean one with every feeding and a new water bowl everyday. Our outside cats use the water on demand pet fountain connected to an outside faucet. Don't have to fuss with fresh water everyday for them. My dog knows how to use the cat fountain when she is outside.

DOTTYMO 02-22-2014 09:13 AM

My dogs prefer rain water from outside as well clean bowls daily

Krissy D 02-22-2014 10:22 AM

Every morning before feeding & fresh water.( My cats only get wet food in the morning , dry the rest of the day )

lynnie 02-22-2014 01:22 PM

my cats bowl about every ot,her day. sometimes you have to hunt for it, since she covers it and hides it after eating. sometimes under the cabinet, sometimes under a pile of fabric she hunts down fromother rooms. she also has 2 water fountains running all day and night and two glasses of water, one in the bedroom with the water fountain and one as you walk in the door a water fountain and one glass on the sink. she likes running water. sometimes she eats off a napkin coz she get overzealous covering her bowls and throws them and they break or chip. she gets a new bowl for food about ever 3-4 months, due to breakage, and her treats are on a silver platter

Jingle 02-22-2014 06:52 PM

I rinse mine out every time I fill the drinking water. Food dishes every so often, my cats and dogs only eat dry food.

Retired Fire Chief 02-23-2014 04:18 AM

I have 5 dogs and 4 cats and wash their food bowls after each meal. I have 2 water bowls for everyone in the laundry room and wash those every couple of days, although I rinse them out and refill them countless times daily! In the summer I have a hard time keeping up with the water bowls even thought the dogs are always drinking out of the pond as well, which is fun to watch, they will wade in the water and lap as they go! Thinking about that makes me even more tired of all this cold, snow and ice!

celwood 02-23-2014 05:41 AM

I throw them in the dishwasher after every meal

Snooze2978 02-23-2014 05:58 AM

I have bowls with either water and/or dry food in them on all 3 floors. Their canned food saucers get washed after every use. Their water bowls usually get washed at least once a week or when they start looking like something I wouldn't use myself. Got to treat our pets the same as ourselves, right????

Me too No wet food no people food.

I clean my little girls bowls with hot soapy water right after she's done eating. I figure I wouldn't want to eat or drink out of a dirty dish or glass so why should she. Also I use to have the stainless bowls but even after cleaning them they would leave a nasty smell also they would get icky real quick. She also gets fresh water different times of the day.

Onebyone 02-23-2014 09:57 AM

All this talk of making work for ourselves washing bowls. Disposables are the way to go.

cricket_iscute 02-23-2014 11:59 AM

I wash them before I put fresh food or water in them, which means at least daily. I have six food dishes and two water dishes available, so there are normally some ready to be used. I have two dogs.

Roberta 02-23-2014 12:22 PM

Everyday for the food dish and twice daily for the water. He's spoiled and doesn't want his water to sit and get warm.

cherrio 02-23-2014 12:28 PM

daily. 4 dogs and 5 cats. daily

luvstoquilt 02-23-2014 02:20 PM

Peach insists on clean dishes for every meal..wants fresh water, too. He also comes after me when he uses his litter box.

IBQUILTIN 02-23-2014 04:09 PM

Every meal. I make their dogfood and use chicken, so I am afraid to leave it in the dishes even a short while

hamchips88 02-23-2014 04:20 PM

feed my dogs twice a day small amounts and wash there bowls every day

abdconsultant 02-23-2014 04:38 PM

6 dogs 2 cats, wash dishes every day.

RainydayQuilter 02-23-2014 04:57 PM

Bowls are washed as needed. He eats dry food, and a spoonful of yogurt (vet approved) once a week (keeps the cat breath at bay). He has 1 food bowl and 2 water bowls- 1 by the food, and the other at the other end of the house. Somehow the water bowls need to be washed at least twice a day because there's always food crumbs in them?

bluesnowdoe 02-23-2014 05:12 PM

we have a neighbor dog that comes everyday for a visit, what will be a good snack or treat I can give her

Ladibug 02-23-2014 08:43 PM

Daily, I wouldn't want to eat and drink from dirty dishes so she shouldn't have to either. (Sheltie-Jack Russell mix)

SB13 02-24-2014 05:11 AM

Every meal, if we deserve clean dishes, so do they!

I would ask your neighbor, I do not let my dogs roam, but one has a grain allergy, and I would be upset to find out he was getting it somewhere else, but like I said my dogs stay home! Just ask the neighbor....carrots are usually a good safe pick.

Normabeth 02-24-2014 07:22 AM

after each meal, Chance gets medicine twice a day, so he need to have food twice a day

notmorecraft 02-24-2014 08:34 AM

Same as I wash mine every meal.

gramquilter2 02-24-2014 08:47 AM

Dog's food dish after every meal and water dish every time it is filled. Our little girl has crystal dishes so need them to sparkle! LOL We also have 2 large parrots and I wash theirs food/water dishes (not crystal) daily too.

sparkys_mom 02-24-2014 10:00 AM

Food bowls with each meal and water bowl every time I refill it (usually once a day). Even washing the water bowl once a day it is amazing what a film develops on it.

Kimkankwilt 02-24-2014 10:06 AM

You're supposed to wash them????? (Just kidding)

Onebyone 02-24-2014 10:10 AM

Canned pure pumpkin is a great snack for a dog. It is very nutritious for them too. I give my dog a spoonful everyday.

Onebyone 02-24-2014 10:13 AM

Washing pet food bowls is more of a people thing. Dogs and cats will gobble up the food they like no matter what it is served in.

Jingle 02-24-2014 11:17 AM

One of my dogs eats her own poop. Why should I worry about clean anything? Dogs will drink out of toilets, mud puddles and anything else. Clean is good but, just ask yourself about the above.
I have never heard of dogs or cats dying from their owners not washing their bowls after they eat or take a drink of water.
My cats do not share the dog's water or food. One dog has her own water and food bowls. My new puppy has his own water and food bowls.
