Quick Go get a broom!

Tonight is the second night of the year that a broom will stand up by itself. Try it it works! The bristle end on the floor. It will stand up by itself. Broom pics are all over facebook. LOL

ptquilts 03-07-2012 06:33 PM

sorry, mine fell over. I must be doing something wrong.

BellaBoo 03-07-2012 06:41 PM

I had three broom standing straight up. My grands are having a ball with friends standing brooms up all down the sidewalk.

mighty 03-07-2012 06:45 PM

I gotta try this!!!

dunster 03-07-2012 06:51 PM

Sorry, I'm too busy organizing a snipe hunt. Want to come?

LadyElisabeth 03-07-2012 06:52 PM

It must work only in the south.

sew1 03-07-2012 07:21 PM

Totally forgot about this. Went and got my broom and sure enough it works. Took pics because no one here will believe me, if I don't. That is awesome.

NikkiLu 03-07-2012 08:47 PM

Worked here!!! What fun!!! Son was here visiting so had him do it too and he could not believe it - so took pictures with his camera phone and is sending the pics to everybody. Called my daughter to see if she had a broom and she said that she has been getting pictures on Facebook of brooms for about a week. But it doesn't seem to work with one of those regular old brooms - just the new synthetic slanted brooms.

BETTY62 03-07-2012 09:04 PM

This is weird. What is special about tonight that causes this to work?

pastorpatti04 03-07-2012 09:17 PM

Ours stood for about 5 mins.

ptquilts 03-08-2012 04:26 AM

Now I challenge all of you to try the same thing a month from now and see if you can still do it.

Bamagal 03-08-2012 05:39 AM

I did it with my regular old straw broom!! DH couldn't believe it! It was strange to see!

stitchinwitch 03-08-2012 05:55 AM

It only works at night??

dd 03-08-2012 06:07 AM

Supposed to also work with eggs. Now don't go making a mess.lol

merry 03-08-2012 06:12 AM

Ahh, why take the fun out of something so harmless? I think sometimes whimsical is necessary, especially for kids to get that look of wonder in their eyes.

By the way, Snopes was started by a man and woman who DECIDE if something is true or false, no research goes into it other then what they want to google. 20/20 did a report on Snopes. The couple wasn't very talkative, just kept shrugging their shoulders. They did admit they didn't check anything much, just went with what felt was true or false.

I think there are wonders we're not suppose to understand!! Why is there not enough dirt to refill a hole dug during a full moon? If the dirt that was dug out is put right back in, it won't fill the hole...my dad showed us this all the time when we were young. BTW, been a while since I've been "snipe hunting"!! My dad used to tell us he was going to take us snipe hunting! Never did though so I finally figured it out! LOL

lovingmama 03-08-2012 07:26 AM

I tried the broom and it worked, so there must be something wicked going on.

Oh I forgot it's the broom I use to take a ride with, so I guess not something really extraordinary! :D

BarbaraSue 03-08-2012 07:51 AM

If it works with a modern broom with the slanted cut, they have nylon bristles. It is probably due to the weather that they stand up. It is likely static electricity with all the storms around.

lizbigger 03-08-2012 07:57 AM

It worked here in VA : D.

Peckish 03-08-2012 08:00 AM

I'd be more impressed if you got an egg to stand up. I'm coming to Dunster's snipe hunt! Will there be wine?

They don't just DECIDE, they cite their research in disproving or proving different myths. At least they are willing to research matters -- too many people forward emails without even thinking twice about them!

karate lady 03-08-2012 08:46 AM

tried it...didn't work...

Kitsie 03-08-2012 09:09 AM

Broom - yes; egg - no. Obviously my hens don't know about this! Or maybe I have to use one that's laid today!

And they all seem to have my email address....sigh...

My sisterinlaw's father showed us with an egg on point. He said it only works during the vernal equinox or the autumnal equinox. Wonder why it's working now. It's too early the vernal equinox isn't until March 20th.

jbj137 03-08-2012 02:33 PM

sandybuttons 03-08-2012 03:45 PM

sandilee 03-08-2012 03:50 PM

This was just on our local news and its a hoax. It can be done anytime of the year!

wildyard 03-08-2012 04:04 PM

Broom? How do you use that for quilting?

Peckish 03-08-2012 04:30 PM

Chasing annoying children out of my sewing room, sweeping under the couch/piano/table/fridge for wayward bobbins, hopping on for a quick ride down to the LQS for more needles, etc. NEVER use it for cleaning! LOL!

StarofMoonDancer 03-09-2012 04:47 AM

I did it today aaat several places in the house and it worked every time.Day time AM. Wow

When my husband walked into the office yesterday afternoon about 3pm the broom was standing in the middle of the hall. His receptionist said he was the only one who noticed! (of course she's the only woman in the office :D- I'm sure the guys just walked around it)

scraphq 03-09-2012 09:15 AM

Snipe hunting? I'm sure you will be serving gourmet snipe breasts with the wine!

michelehuston 03-09-2012 10:39 AM

I missed it!!! What is the other day of the year?
