Man do I wish I could have a space that looks and works like that!I need to get organized this year!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-12-2010 11:56 AM

That is so-o-o-o-o-o over the top. If you are not seriously making a living in that space, too much money has been spent on a hobby.

Deb watkins 01-12-2010 12:08 PM

She spent so much time organizing that, she must have been too tired to quilt!

sunkistmi 01-12-2010 01:15 PM

I wonder if I could rent her for a few days. I got tired just looking at the pictures, but I did drool alot. Wow!!

It did look more like a small store than one of OUR rooms, didn't it? And does she actually use ALL of that stuff? Power to her.....I guess I do like my little bit of mess.

QuiltMania 01-12-2010 03:24 PM

Libby's got waaaaay too much time on her hands. I'd be afraid to do anything in that space. I'd be afraid to set something down in the wrong space.

Marjpf 01-12-2010 03:38 PM

I guess she likes to organize - not have fun quilting! Oh well, maybe some day I'll get around to that.

SuzyM 01-12-2010 05:29 PM

Really? Not in my life time

I am pretty organized but that is way over the top. The money tied up in the supplies and organization is stagering.

redkimba 01-12-2010 05:37 PM

I am absolutely floored. I like her organization system. It's over the top for me, but there are some ideas that I might adapt for my craft room.

wvdek 01-12-2010 06:00 PM

This video came from Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims' show 'Quilter's News ' from today's e-mail I got.

Since the room is only 14 x 14, they are showing how Libby Lehman maximizes every inch to get the most storage out of her room.
It looks like her magnetic PT rack is on her longarm.
Guess they figured we didn't need to see machines since they were showcasing the organization issues most hobbyist/designers deal with.
Guess if I put out the kind of quilt designs and quilts she does, I would be that organized, too.
Different strokes for different folks.

craftiladi 01-12-2010 06:35 PM

I agree w/ all the above comment...as I was drooling I was thinking MAN thats alot of money in supplies....would have loved to have sen a full rm shot....like most of you I wanted to see the actual work area...nice but not for me. I did like some of the ideas. thanks for sharing

maryb119 01-13-2010 05:45 AM

Thas way too anal for me! I can't be neat and creative at the same time!!

QuiltingGrannie 01-13-2010 05:55 AM

That is a bit tooo much - stuff and organizing- even for me. I do like everything being labeled though. Like the foam core used for ribbons, and fancy stuff. And like others have said ---- where is her sewing machine and sewing area?

lfw045 01-13-2010 09:03 AM

LAL should have been LOL. I really think this was put together just to show what could be done and that is it.

Bailey's mom 01-13-2010 09:32 AM

That is so nice but I must say that it is never going to happen in my lifetime!!!LOL

I thought that too. looks more like a store.

Ditter43 01-14-2010 08:20 AM

My rooms are a mess but I do know which pile MOST things are in. Even at it's best I don't expect my work area to even slightly resemble that! I actually USE my room every day! :-D

Things can become so organized that even the method of organization needs organization. Talk about micro-managing. And who has thousands of bobbins like that?

Quilter Marshall 01-14-2010 12:01 PM

I think this studio belongs to Libby Leeman. I saw some of it on The Quilt Show.

elizajo 01-14-2010 12:49 PM

I admit to being an organization junkie when I was teaching second grade. I have a more limited budget now, so I try to make do with what I have on hand so I have money for fabric.

I have to admit that I liked the magnet bars with the wire mesh baskets and the labels in Libby's studio.

lots2do 01-14-2010 03:30 PM

Loved the music. It gave me an idea for my space - how to use a coatpeg rack I have and haven't used yet. I guess you can tell that she is in the business and needs to be that organized.

MistyMarie 01-14-2010 03:38 PM

When I read that the room was only 14' x 14' I about choked. I would love a room to be only 14' x 14' to call my own. I think if I had my own space, I would be able to take on some of those organizational methods myself. As it is, I am happy to be able to find my stuff, let alone worry about if it is organized. It was a cool slide-show though. One can only dream. However, I think if that was my room, it would too time consuming to keep it up.

Libby Lehman is famous, travels & teaches a lot and has a quilt chosen to be in the book of 100 Best Quilts of the Century. Go to her web site and take a look around.

Organization doesn't have to be expensive. I use shoeboxes for my patterns, and those plastic containers that salad greens come in are perfect for fat quarters.

deedum 01-14-2010 06:18 PM

I must say it certainly was interesting! Almost information overload,I need advil!

And some of her organizational skills, oh and labels too!

Joan 01-14-2010 07:10 PM

Did anyone see a sewing machine???????

Did I miss something?

butterflywing 01-14-2010 08:37 PM

the thing that she has that i have is music!

Leota 01-14-2010 09:47 PM

The part about having the thread organized by color is really a help... I have the rolling drawers with my regular sewing threads (sorted by color)and I have my cone threads on peg board sorted by color... the rest of my room... uhhhhhmmmmmmmm ... let's not go there :D

amma 01-15-2010 02:40 AM

Holy cow  that is too organized for me :D:D:D

Sandy1951 01-15-2010 04:22 AM

I just visited Libby's web site a few weeks ago. She's very talented, that's for sure.

Now, as for this clip, what I learned is:

First, you need a label maker...

butterflywing 01-15-2010 07:55 AM

$29.95 ....

bj 01-15-2010 09:33 AM

Seems a little OCD to me. I like my room neat and all that but...really???

shequilts 01-15-2010 09:41 AM

Somebody needs to get a life! I know she's great at what she does, but....has she heard the term "anal?"

AnnaK 01-15-2010 02:08 PM

I don't think I could sew around such an organized room. I need a little mess to be inspired. Besides, I can't hang any rulers or anything on my walls...there are quilts hanging there!

This looks more like a quilt shop than a home. This person must be a professional quilter and not a hobbiest.

hpylady 01-16-2010 07:38 AM

I love what she did and I would love for mine to look like that and be that organized, but that is only in my dreams. I did have a very organized sewing room I thought with my little inexpensive ideas and make do (except when in process of a quilting project), then I added my grandmothers old bed that I refinished and a beautiful old timey dresser that I am in process of refinishing, my other grandmothers old sewing machine and cabinet that I 've refinished, a electric piano, an old treadle sewing machine, a big desk that I keep my PFAFF on, cabinets with my sewing supplies and material, my mini trampoline, and all of my musical instruments( a guitar, 2 banjos and a madoline.

Oh! I forgot to mention my toolbox that I keep hidden from my husband. Although my sewing room doesn't look like hers, I sure I am just as proud of it. It is my favorite room of the house. That room is me. but thumbs up to anyone who has a room like that. I loved all of it. ;-)
