Wow! I'm impressed. Your talent is awesome.

Olivia's Grammy 05-30-2011 03:38 AM

I started many, many years ago making my panties. At the time there was a local store I could go to for tricot and the elastics. I still make my half slips. Mary Jo's in NC carries tricot and elastic, but I like buying everything in one package from Needle Nook Fabrics. Anne states in her book that she want each person to support their local stores before buying from her. The problem in very few store carry the supplies needed for bras.

Mickie612 05-30-2011 04:55 AM

Those are great, I tried to make one but ended up with two left cups

Psychomomquilter 05-30-2011 05:14 AM

Now thats a good thing! do you make your patterns from old bras? how do you start? do you make other undergarments? would like to try my hand at it as well.

damaquilts 05-30-2011 06:14 AM

I sure saved that site. I am going to look into getting patterns. I am so tired of not having something comfortable and pretty to wear. I use to work in a shop that made bathing suits and made clothes forever before starting on quilts so I think I will be able to figure things out. If I ever get to Kansas again I will be sure to stop into the shop.

a1crafter 05-30-2011 07:48 AM

Have you considered posting a tutorial? It would certainly be a benefit to many women.

Olivia's Grammy 05-30-2011 07:56 AM

No, it would take to long and it wouldn't be fair to the owner of the patterns.

Anne came to my area through ASG to teach the class. She has been here several times. Check with her to see if she is available to do a class in your area. It is so worth the money you invest in the class. The pattern she drafts will be your pattern designed to fit your body.
No, I would not even consider a tute as it would be very long and not fair to Anne.

I used to live in Wichita and worked for the extension service and taught sewing. We spent lots of time and money in Needlenook as we taught t-shirts and lingerie classes. I love her and her shop. I've been wanting to take her bra class and now that I live in Tulsa, I might just have to go up there and take it. Thanks for showing the bras. I'm hard to fit (very large) so this would be perfect!

Margie 05-30-2011 08:08 AM

Beatiful..I cannot imagine making them. I dont think I have the skill to do it. KUDOS to you

grammyj 05-30-2011 08:12 AM

Where do you buy the pre package kits? I can never find a bra that fits right. I would like to try to make one if you don't mind sharing the information. You did a really good job on yours.
Oh I see now that you already posted the information, Thank you .

SewExtremeSeams 05-30-2011 08:14 AM

Beautiful bras! :-D

I have long been a fan of Kwik Sew patterns. She carries intimate wear, including bras.

In the 1990s and earlier you could get tricot galore in stores similar to Hancock's and JoAnn's and the lingere elastic. :-D

Nanjun 05-30-2011 08:27 AM

Wow!! I will take 6 any day.

fivepaws 05-30-2011 08:27 AM

PATTIESPEARL 05-30-2011 10:14 AM

WOW1 hOW ABOUT DOING A TUTORIAL AND TEACHING US HOW TO DO THIS. THE DARN THINGS ARE SO EXPENSIVE. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BUY A PATTERN!

PATTIESPEARL 05-30-2011 10:15 AM

WHERE DO YOU BUY THE PATTERNS?

delma_paulk 05-30-2011 10:53 AM

Wherever did you find your pattern?
I've been looking for a pattern for years. My mother used one to make her bras and it's gotten lost over the years.

Thank you in advance (TIA)

delma

jbj137 05-30-2011 11:06 AM

I just noticed the one in Columbus. That's not to far from me, about 2 hours. I wouldn't mind going for a review and to see if there are any new techniques.

lalaland 05-30-2011 12:39 PM

If there was a class offered around here on bra making, I'd be the first in line! Yours are awesome and they look soooo comfy.

lheizen 05-30-2011 02:21 PM

Funny, sound like something I would do!

Momsmurf 05-30-2011 05:21 PM

About a month ago there was a guy demonstrating bra making...and at first I thought he was doing a OBW. As we watched we noticed that he wasnt' ironing the fabric before cutting it and teased him about it...and the older lady with him laughed - saying that she keeps pointing that out also! His finished products were really colorful being that he was using yardage we would use in quilting.

You have a lot of talent to make those up!

katigirl 05-30-2011 11:04 PM

Now your girls will be happily and stylistly covered. lol.

Olivia's Grammy 05-31-2011 10:12 AM

Thank you ladies for all your encouraging comments.
To those that have sent me a PM, thank you.
However, I can not answer all your questions. My very strong suggestion is to contact NeedleNookFabrics 316-684-3812. They are very pleasant to work with.
Sewing to me comes very easy, without tooting my own horn, I've never found anything I could not make. However, only you know your skills. By contacting NNF they can advise you about making bras and/or buying supplies from them.
Again, as I have stated several times through this thread, fit is the most important part of bra making/fitting. NNF can advise you about that also.
I paid about $200 for my class it was a two day class and feel it would not be fair to the owner of this product to "try" and teach her technique though a tute. Also it would be a very, very long tute.
Again, thank you for looking at my thread. It is a wonderful compliment for each of you to acknowledge my skill.

linda701 06-02-2011 04:56 PM

Wow, they look like store bought, can't ever get any to fit me. Great job.

JACRN 06-02-2011 08:37 PM

MaryStoaks 06-14-2012 03:31 PM

I'm with you... I never even thought about people making their own bras but now that I do think about it, it makes sense. I wonder if they're hard to fit on yourself. I find sewing for myself (my body) hard because of the fitting business.

These bras are beautiful!
