Although I love every part of the quilting process, sometimes I have to stop and make necessay things.
I made these 6 bras over the week end. They range in cost from $10 - $14 and usually last me about 3 years. And they fit perfectly.

Mazda 05-29-2011 02:40 PM

Nice!

rosemaynes 05-29-2011 02:40 PM

WOW those all look store bought... that is great when they fit perfectly.

Airwick156 05-29-2011 02:40 PM

Those are quite nice. Can't tell that they are homemade. What kind of fabric do you use? Do you make them to sell? I think you could make a little extra on the side if you did. :)

eastermarie 05-29-2011 02:53 PM

I have one that looks like a twin to that white one. What a fantastic job!

redquilter 05-29-2011 02:58 PM

They're beautiful. How wonderful to be able to make them - you are very talented.

DoxieMom 05-29-2011 03:00 PM

Wow--I'm impressed! Wish I had the talent to make some for myself. It's so hard to find styles that fit properly and then the fabrics are so limited...

They are a little harder than you would think. So no I do not make them to sell. Fit is the key. I took a class in 07 to learn how to make them and have been making them since.
I buy prepackage kits that are either tricot or cotton knit. I taught the class one time, and one time only although I had other requests. You really need to have strong sewing skills to make them.

grayma 05-29-2011 03:12 PM

Those are very nice. I can't imagine the work that goes into them. I have never heard of classes to make them.

bebe 05-29-2011 03:23 PM

i will take 2!!!!

Chasing Hawk 05-29-2011 03:25 PM

Very nice

Mine would cost a lot more because I would need a lot of padding....LOL....Wish I could make good fitting bras! Love yours.

bearisgray 05-29-2011 03:55 PM

Nice - where do you get the kits?

blueangel 05-29-2011 03:56 PM

Wow those look just like the store brand, probably better.

Annaquilts 05-29-2011 04:03 PM

Wow that is a great skill to have. I wished I knew how to make them.

how in the heck do you do this? I have never know anyone to make their own bras. that is just flat amazing. how do you do that??

Kappy 05-29-2011 04:10 PM

Those are so nice.....underwire? I realize they can be a challenge to make, but this is one challenge I need to take up! Any advice? I have a purchased bra that fits nicely but of course they don't make them anymore, don't really want to cut it apart either. Did you buy a pattern and modify it?

Kappy 05-29-2011 04:14 PM

oops double post!

maryel 05-29-2011 04:31 PM

All I can say if WOW you are talented for sure! :D

frugalfabrics 05-29-2011 04:33 PM

I need to learn how to keep the underwire from popping out of the store bought ones...any secrets you can reveal.

Should I sew up the edging before wearing them?

alikat110 05-29-2011 04:48 PM

Great job

Monika 05-29-2011 05:02 PM

Those are very nice. Where do you get the kits???

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 05-29-2011 05:06 PM

There are an amazing number of links that come up when you Google this subject! I just never thought about it, but it seems like a good option for hard to fit sizes.

apronlady 05-29-2011 05:30 PM

Wow, your work is awesome, especially after the week's post about finding bras to fit properly. I bought 4 with a very good sales rep., and $80 later, they ride up my back and annoy me no end! Making my own could solve this problem, but I doubt they'd end up looking like yours!

Thank you for sharing!

tellabella 05-29-2011 05:34 PM

Wow...very impressed...do you have patterns? Can you do a tute...

earthwalker 05-29-2011 05:46 PM

I admire your skill...very useful talent to have. Much nicer than store bought (even expensive ones here tend to pop the underwiring or look shabby very quickly).

Olivia's Grammy 05-29-2011 05:50 PM

Yes, I do have a pattern. I buy all my supplies from [email protected] 316-684-5989
Anne came to my area through ASG to teach the class. She has been here several times. Check with her to see if she is available to do a class in your area. It is so worth the money you invest in the class. The pattern she drafts will be your pattern designed to fit your body.
No, I would not even consider a tute as it would be very long and not fair to Anne.

Of course they would look different from mine. You would choose different fabrics.

Take a short tight zig-zag at the end of the underwire point.

Joan 05-29-2011 05:53 PM

I am IMPRESSED----those look like "store-bought" to me!

Jingle 05-29-2011 06:05 PM

Nice looking bras. You do a great job.

ditto! They are wonderful!

sueisallaboutquilts 05-29-2011 06:13 PM

Amazing work!! :)

cctx. 05-29-2011 06:20 PM

I've never tried the bra making, but do better at briefs/panties. The bras are harder to make.
Nice work, they look factory assembled.

LeeAnn 05-29-2011 06:39 PM

Very, very nice. Pretty too.

Leota 05-29-2011 06:41 PM

I too took a course to make bras and corsets... my problem is where do I purchase the materials. Places like Hancocks and JoAnn's do not have the materials needed to construct a bra

Here is a link I found that takes you right to the site mentioned. It does look like a couple of workshops are scheduled for any of you lucky enough to be in the right area.

Thank you...I'lll definitely do that. It will help to lengthen the life of them. Those darn underwires have killed a couple of brand new ones lately.

Very nice! I burnt my bra a long time ago but when I have to wear one I opt for the Hanes sleep bra. I don't have much to contain in one anyway.
