I also brush my hair before bed, it just feels better. What a mess when I get up though!

When my DD was still living at home, she & I would nearly wear the rolls out, switching them around. She likes them like you do -- I like the opposite. I also turn the labels on my cans out. And do the egg thing so they're balanced in the carton. And I also stack my pans (& my dishes) by size.

You want weird? I take my glasses off when I go to the bathroom. I have no idea why. I just do.

I flip my folded towels so one fold is on one side & the next towel, the fold is opposite it (does that make sense?). I don't think of that as odd (tho everyone else around me does) -- I think of it as handy because then the stack is even. If you put all the folds on one side, the side is higher than the other side & doesn't fit on the shelf evenly.

Really, I have so many little tics/quirks that mine alone could be their own thread here on the board... LOL!

burchquilts 07-11-2012 12:52 PM

Oh, & someone mentioned writing on paper. I get TOTALLY nuts over writing on paper. If I make a mistake, I throw the paper out & start all over (even if it's just a grocery list). Same if my pen runs out of ink & I have to switch pens. I won't use paper is there's something on the other side of it. I use a piece of lined paper inside an envelope when I address it so my writing on the envelope is straight.

The more I read of this post (& agree with pretty much everyone says... I'm the same about the sheet/blanket dilemma tho I go one step further... my top sheet has to be put on print side down so when I fold the sheet back over the quilt, the print shows & not the wrong side), the weirder I think I am. DH has always commented (not negatively, just observing) on all my weird habits & I think I finally see that I'm not normal... LOL!

And don't even get me started on all the weird things I do when I eat (but unlike someone else on this thread, I have to eat my corn around instead of long)!

I like them to roll that way also because they roll quickly and tear off nicely. I refrain from re arrangine anyone else's.

I do also 'balance the eggs in the carton', seems like a sensible idea.

Solved the problem of top sheets pushed down, as that's what my DH and sons always did as they didn't like the top sheet. I only use a fitted bottom sheet and a quilt which also saves doing laundry. I think most of my pet peeves or odd habits are just sensible ones, like I keep my money by together by amount, dollar bills, 5's etc., but they can face anyway they like. It's just easier to find the right amount of money when I want to pay for something.

dobies rock! 07-11-2012 01:20 PM

I didn't think I had that many, but I see a lot of them repeated here, lol! The thing about the canned goods, though, I put mine on the shelf backwards or upside down just to see how long it will take hubby to come & fix them ;)

May in Jersey 07-11-2012 02:15 PM

This one I don't understand,
"This last one drives my family crazy because I won't fix supper if the sink is full of dishes".
Won't there be more dishes after you have eaten supper?
'

MarLeClair 07-11-2012 02:16 PM

I only like bread the first day I buy it. It has to be really fresh. If I get roast beef at the meat market, I only eat it the first day. After that I won't eat it. Years ago I would go nuts if the bed wasn't made when I got home from work. My husband worked nights I worked days and I felt like the whole house was a mess if the bed wasn't made. Today I go for days without making the bed.

nycbgirl 07-11-2012 02:55 PM

I have some quirky habits too!! I always 'pat' the clothes after I've folded them. I also will not start cooking until the dishes are clean and out of the sink...they can be in the drainer but cant have dirty dishes in the sink.
when we go out of town I reclean the hotel room before I even bring my luggage in and always put a 'do not disturb sign'.
Always throw my change in my purse coins mostly but sometimes bills. It's always a surprise how much money I find when I clean my purse!!! When I was dating my husband we went to walmart and asked me to get his wallet and pay for something so I took a 20 and just stuck the change back in however the guy handed it to me. His eyes opened wide and he said "what are you doing?" He took his wallet and proceded to put all his bills in order and said "that's how to put money away!" I immediately thought 'can I marry this man?' So many rules!!!!! 17 years later we still differ on many things....but are happily married! (in spite of HIS quirky habits!)

I hate to turn off music in the middle of a song.
If music is on, I can't turn it off when I'm going to take a shower. :o

When I'm pouring something, usually food, into a container I pour in the amount I want then stop and pour in just a little bit more.

I arrange my eggs in the carton so that they are balanced. The reasoning is that I don't want to pull it out and flip it up or down because the weight is all at the front or back.

Okay, confession time! :)

What quirky habits do you have?

The egg thing -I hate cleaning them off the floor.I can't stand anything thats sticky or slimy I will knock people down to get to the sink to wash it off-way yukky-My fridge has to be just so. And back when i went to the laudro-mat my dirty's were sorted and folded before leaving the house.

jeaninmaine 07-11-2012 03:45 PM

Oh I forgot, I passionately hate to get my hands dirty, blue disposable rubber gloves go on before I do anything that's messy. Yellow rubber gloves for cleaning and dishwashing. This is silly considering what a slob I am when it comes to housekeeping. Ahhh, there's my excuse I didn't want to dirty up my hands. LOL

b.zang 07-11-2012 03:53 PM

What a reassuring thread this is - makes me feel downright normal amongst the rest of you who do things the same way I do, like random counting (I think my mother must have taught me numbers by counting stairs and actions).

My DH complains every single time I sneeze. Now, I can't hear myself because I'm busy sneezing, and it just kind of happens, but for him it's meshed fork tines and he always comments on how his eardrums are going to bust apart one day from my sneezes. Unfortunately for him, I love pepper on my food and also seem to have the kind of sinuses that are easily irritated.
When my DD sneezes, she makes a sound like a cuckoo clock - AH-CHOO, cuckoo. What's with that???

That's not quirky, that's efficient!

jeaninmaine 07-11-2012 04:23 PM

I've always envied women with those dainty sneezes, when I sneeze it's loud and not at all delicately.

johnniesgirl 07-11-2012 04:40 PM

I have to make my bed in the morning so the sheets are pulled real tight on all sides and same with the blanket. My husband calls it a military bed, then when I pull the sheets down at night in the evening, I pull everything nice and tight as I pull them down and make it look very inviting. I don't like anyone in the house to make our bed as it's just my thing I guess.

MaryStoaks 07-11-2012 04:52 PM

What a fun thread! I can't stand crumbs in my silverware drawer. I also seem to have way too much flatware, and the pattern must all match. I don't sleep with a top sheet. My husband always pulled it off onto the floor during the night, after many years I quit trying. Now I sleep with just a quilt, that may be why I use sheets for backing my quilts.:o

sunny42539 07-11-2012 05:47 PM

I don't know if this is quirky or not but I have selective hearing.

BellaBoo 07-11-2012 06:13 PM

I read all the replies and they are interesting and fun to read! I honestly can't think of anything I have to do or not do. I asked DH and he said I don't think I've seen you do something the same way twice so I guess that's your quirk. LOL I haven't noticed him having to do something the same way or be stubborn about how something is done. DH said we are floaters. We float right over anything that can cause stress.

Jill 07-11-2012 06:41 PM

I count steps (thought I was the only person in the world doing that) and check every room before going to bed so that everything is in its place. When eating chips (very seldom) I always eat the folded chips first. When eating M&M's candy, I take one piece out of the bag or bowl, then eat only that color. Actually, I do that so I won't eat every single one of them! I clean/check every room by working around the room rather than just random. All the clothes hangers are the same color and hang in the same direction. Clothes in my closet are arrange by type (pants, shirts, suits, etc.) and by color light to dark. I'm going to stop now before I think of anymore quirky things I do!

You use the top sheets for quilt backing and I use mine to make additional pillowcases as DH and I each have 2 bed pillows. Oh, those crumbs in the silveware drawer, when I see them I grab a paper towel and wet it and clean the whole drawer.

I need to stop reading these posts as I have added way too many things to my list, most of which I never thought as being a quirky. .

That's why it's quirky! I think it evolved from my first marriage. I hated to do dishes and didn't have very many so I couldn't put supper on the table until I washed dishes or the skillet/pot I needed would be buried at the bottom of the sink so I would have to wash dishes before I could start supper.

Roberta 07-12-2012 05:36 AM

I have to make sure everything is straight, salt and pepper shakers lined up, etc. Even in stores I tend to put things in the correct order after folks have mess them up. My husband calls me the female Monk.

Caswews 07-12-2012 05:59 AM

Oh my goodness- I think you all have said my umm habits .. yes that is the word . .habits! some of mine drive the kids and DH up the wall.. oh well now I know others have the same umm habits as I do; so I don't feel bad .. LOL

Sunnye 07-12-2012 06:15 AM

If these are quirky things, then I have them too! I just thought they are common sense things (like the eggs and labels facing out). I have so many more; too long a list!

IdahoSandy 07-12-2012 06:45 AM

Right now I can only think of one quirky habit and that is I squeeze the toothpaste in my mouth and not on a brush. I am also a neat freak.

Latrinka 07-12-2012 06:46 AM

I also have a lot of the ones mentioned, the egg carton thing, my money has to all be facing the same, right side up, and in order from smaller to larger bills! The only one I have that hasn't been mentioned is that I have to have the spoon in my coffee cup, not just to stir, but I keep it in there while I drink the whole cup. I hold the handle of the spoon back when I take sips. My mama said that is exactly what my grandmother did, and I wasn't raised around her. Also, I like to stand and eat at the kitchen counter instead of sitting down!

sew_Tracy 07-12-2012 06:47 AM

Clutter drives me nuts. I have 9 people, 4 dogs, and 5 cats in my home currently. I am currently a completely INSANE person :D

nancia 07-12-2012 07:29 AM

how about if i list my dh's quirks instead? couldn't we each fill a page with those?!!:D my worst quirk, which to me makes perfect sense!, is to put little pieces of trash, candy wrapper, peach pit, return envelope from junk mail, etc, in a dish or cup that's going back to the kitchen. the idea is, when i get to the kitchen i will throw away the trash and put the dish in the sink. but the reality is (don't tell anyone i admitted this!) i usually get distracted and just leave it on the counter. somehow, this totally derails all the men in my life and they can't figure out what to do with the trash. seems simple enough to me.:o

I do that!!!! Made me think of MY DH's quirk!! We eat in the living room (is that a quirk??) I hate sitting at a table. He always takes our dishes to the kitchen. I have been known to leave the dishwasher open, with the racks out ----- HE sets the dishes on the counter above the dishwasher.....he NEVER puts them in!!!!! THAT drives me nuts!

nena 07-12-2012 07:41 AM

My DGD has a doll on the bed . When I take it off to get into bed I have to lay her where she is not all messed up. Looks like a real baby and just drives me crazy if she does not look comfey. Yelp... I'm bonkers.

nancia 07-12-2012 08:38 AM

omg. both of you have reminded me of things!! my husband CANNOT rinse his dishes or pots and pans. i'm grateful he cooks, don't get me wrong, but when i go to do the dishes i spend time and energy i don't have scouring these dishes. grrrr. finally, our dw died and then he was able to rinse, on top of the clean dishes i had soaking in rinse water. can't win!
the other reminder is silly, but i talk to all my dolls and teddy bears. and the plants outside, too. if i have to move a doll i tell her why, and i introduce one doll to the others. wacko? i prefer to think of it as a rich imagination!:D:thumbup:

royllsister 07-12-2012 08:46 AM

Except for the light switches and feeding the dog and cat..............I "represent" every one of these confessions/obsessions/quirks..............lol..... true, absolutely true.... and even more.

Ruth is SO RIGHT..... AMEN again.

JeannieT 07-12-2012 08:50 AM

This thread is SO funny!!! I can't fall asleep if the closet door is open, even if it's just cracked open a bit....I'll lay there awake tossing and turning not knowing why...until I think about the closet door....have to get up and shut it. Then fall right asleep !!

OMG! Me, too! The closet door HAS to be shut! And I have to sleep on the side of the bed furthest from the bedroom door. And have a nightlight on. And socks. How have I lived all these years, being so "quirky" (is that code for "NUTS"? LOL!)???

No, eating in the living room is NOT wacky. We NEVER eat at the dining table (well, right now it's covered with quilting stuff, so we couldn't if we wanted to!). We eat where-ever. I usually eat in bed & DH usually eats at his 'puter desk. It's a pretty casual atmosphere around these parts.

Oh, I'd forgot about my money. Yes, mine all has to face the same way & be from left to right, the smaller bills to the larger ones. As for eating at the counter, I read somewhere that calories don't count if you eat them standing up... LOL! Hey, it works for me (the thought, not the actual phenomena -- if it worked, I'd weigh 48 pounds)!

I don't think of them as quirks or habits. I choose to think of them as what makes me so adorable & lovable... LOL! And yes, mine drive my people CRAZY, too. When DH (jokingly) says "You are so weird", I reply with "Yes. but I smell good" & he can't help but agree. It's like this Happy Bunny cartoon --->

I have quite a few but the ones that drive DH nuts is that I have to brush my teeth and go to the little girls room just before I can leave the house. Also before I can quilt, sew or do whatever hobby my dishes have to be done before I feel like I can do them. Also One project has to be done and cleaned up before I can start another project. I have had to pack away a few and then they becomes a ufos cause I hate trying to figure where I left off and what I was doing again. Boy do I miss my sewing room here so I could just shut the door. Here I work in the dining room and find that hard to do sometime.
