Remember Diaper Pins?
I was pinning blocks together the other day and, when the pin wouldn't slide right in, I automatically just ran it through my hair. Anyone else remember doing that with diaper pins? (My "baby" is 45!)
|
I had nice sharp diaper pins but I do remember making sure that my hand was inside the diaper as I pinned to make sure I didn’t accidentally scratch the baby. Got myself a few time though.
|
I always kept a small bar of soap near the changing table. Used it like a pin cushion and the little coating of soap made the slid through the diaper fabric smoothly and easily. Vaguely recall the running through my hair on occasion. Figured the soap was safer for ME than through my hair. ;)

My baby is 64, and I still have his diaper pins--w blue bear face. Thx for reminding me!
|
I remember that. Not sure most kids nowadays have any idea how to put a real diaper on a baby.
|
Oh my gosh. What a walk down memory lane. I still have a couple of them. How about rubber pants. I used to buy Gerber rubber pants because I could get them at my grocery store.

Yes I remember diaper pins and running them onto the side of my nose to "oiL" them so they would slide through.
|
I buy good quality, nickel-plated pins. They slide easily.

I sure do remember running the pins through my hair. It worked like a charm.

I ran diaper pins through my hair, too. Really worked!

Yup, great memories there. I still have a jar of those pins and use them to thread elastic thru casings. Rubber pants - I remember them too. My daughter is using cloth diapers and oh man have things changed. We couldn't even find rubber pants, diaper pins or those blue liners I use to use inside their diapers. The current system is mind boggling to me - so many snaps and thick liners and a fancy spray apparatus on the toilet itself. Crazy how the old system was in place for so many, many years and now, well things have changed! But you know - babies haven't! Thanks for the great memory reminder!

Yes, diaper pins. For awhile I had two in diapers, and that was certainly fun! The duck pins were my favorite. My 2 year old would watch me change the baby's "di-ber" as he called it, and decided he could change his own. At that point I decided if he could change his own diaper, he could use training pants, and the potty chair. He was trained in less than a week!

I had a diaper service for a long while with my kids and pins were the only thing I provided myself. I would have a string of diaper pins attached to my shirt because you never knew when you would need one and the same on the diaper bag. I would still use cloth diapers over disposable any day! Here's to diaper pins. Oh yeah my girls are 44 and 45.
|
I was given pink diaper pins with some hand me down pink sleepers when my oldest son was born. We weren’t wealthy so I was grateful for them. My husband’s colleague was appalled that I would put my son in pink.

why would they need to? |
Ha, I remember the first disposable diapers. I could not figure out how to put them on without them leaking or falling off! Tee Hee. Anyways, a few years later I read how old cloth diapers made wonderful dusting and cleaning rags....so I bought a brand new pack of them, and I still have a few of them.

All pins dull eventually and not really the point, pun intended.
I guess you can take my first comment and file it away for when your pins eventually dull. I've had my nickel-plated for 10 years, btw. |

Well then I guess my answer is no, I don't remember diaper pins, apparently I'm too young. When my first son was born, my dad won a contest for me, a year's supply of disposable diapers.

I remember using diaper pins on the neighbor kid when I was a teen babysitting. When I used cloth on my daughters I used prefold diapers but someone had invented a cool gadget called a Snappi that held the diapers in place without pins. It was magic! Google it, I’m sure they still make it.
I also made some of the fancier all in one diapers. They worked soooo much better than disposables! No up the back blowouts! and my entirely cloth diapered baby potty trained in a DAY. One day! She had one accident and even pooped in the big potty. Her non cloth diapered sisters took forever. |

Thanks for all the fun replies. It was great to read everyone's memories of those times!

To be more "green" which is what a lot of people seem to want to be?
I guess I misunderstood the original comment about kids not being able to use a « real » diaper whatever that is. I took it to mean that kids didn’t know how to use diaper pins. Given that many current cloth diapers use snaps I’m pretty sure that today’s parent would be able to figure out how to use them. |

Wow. What a rude response. She wasn’t being mean or snotty, she was suggesting you might want to try those pins.

I asked in Target store baby section yesterday if they had diaper pins and had to explain to the clerk what they were :) No they don't.
I'll try joanns. The leg zipper on Rob's heavy duty coveralls is broke and I could only find one pin here strong enough to go through the material but I don't think it will last out the coverall life... So I'll keep looking for diaper pins! |

I used cloth diapers and diaper pins for all three of my kids. I never stuck them but I sure stuck my fingers a few times.
|
My "babies" are 39 and 35. I used the duck head pins. My daughter (35 yrs old) uses cloth diapers on my granddaughter. Big difference from what I used with them. https://texastushies.com/ This is where she gets them from.

I really remember the 2 different types of cloth diapers that I used. My favorite were the long gauze ones that had to be folded to use. They were of thin material and dried quickly on the clothesline. The 3-ply diapers didn’t need folding but took longer to dry. Those were the days. 😊
