I guess a Fons and Porter glove is a good habit to get into.

Debra Mc 06-21-2011 07:48 AM

Just the thought makes me squesy. Hope it heals soon.

sassymoose 06-21-2011 08:30 AM

After my friend did that I now use the klutz glove. I was able to get it on sale.

Normabeth 06-21-2011 09:01 AM

I have to tell you that this is my greatest fear - the blades are sharp and you have to press hard to cut thru two layers of fabric. I purchased the AccuQuilt Go just to avoid using
the blade for some items - Hope your hand heals fast!!!!

OUCH is right! I'm cringing reading about it!

I'm hoping today will be a much better day for you. And now you know it isn't a good idea to be cutting fabric when you're tired.

ladybalcom 06-21-2011 09:40 AM

im left handed so it was same finger on right hand. Happened a year ago, im fine cept for some numbness. Oh the things we do when tired. Bless you.

quilt gramma 06-21-2011 10:34 AM

That can happened to any of us . I myself dont like when i put a new blade in my cutter as i always seem to nick myself too but not like yours losing part of the finger . Best of luck healing ..

Grinster 06-21-2011 12:18 PM

I did the same thing to, cut my little finger right next to the nail. Bled like crazy. Make butterfly bandage and put pressure on it as I was so not going to urgent care. It healed fine but those cuts just seem to be attracted to bump into everything you want to touch. Treat it with "tincture of time, antibiotic ointment and a tight band aide."

Take care! Sorry to hear of your accident.

Dolly's sister 06-21-2011 01:19 PM

Scary, hope you heal quickly and can get back to quilting soon.

KyKaren1949 06-21-2011 01:37 PM

I believe I've seen a safety edge to put on your ruler so that won't happen to you.
Like someone else, when I read your post, my stomach flipped. I can just imagine how sore your finger is!! So sorry this happened to you. Being tired really does cause accidents doesn't it? I've learned to quit before I get to that point to, but sure understand how this happened.

Cal Gal 06-21-2011 02:03 PM

That must have really hurt. Everytime I use my rotary cutter from now on I will say prayer for you and remind my self to be careful.

grannypat7925 06-21-2011 03:23 PM

So sorry this happened. When this heals be sure to get a klutz glove! Those cutters are super sharp!

My time 06-21-2011 03:40 PM

A quilter's worst nightmare. So sorry you've been hurt. How many stitches did you require

butterflies5518 06-21-2011 04:19 PM

Oh my! Blessings on a quick heal. I so dread the thought of this happening to me but I know it will at some point.

serenitybygrace 06-21-2011 05:06 PM

I have fallen several times when trying to push my body & had a few tiny nicks from the rotary cutter. We really have to tune in to ourselves and rest when we need to. I am good at pushing myself, also.
I hope your finger heals quickly!

collady 06-21-2011 05:11 PM

I can truly provide sympathy. I did the same 14 years ago. It hurt for a long time, but works fine now. I also now never put the rc down without closing it and always wear a clutz glove.

mburdell 06-21-2011 06:49 PM

If you lived in my house you would be banned from using the rotary cutter.

I cut the tip of my finger off with the hedge trimmer (husband kept putting off trimming the bushes so I decided to do it myself). I had to call my brother to take me to the ER. So I am banned from using it.

I am also banned from using the weed whip-you don't want to know why.

Have cut myself once with the rotary cutter (not badly)but I didn't tell anyone or those would be gone.

bapend1234 06-21-2011 06:54 PM

cut top of hand all the way across once

Grandma Peg 06-21-2011 07:21 PM

Oh my, things happen so fast. Hope it heals perfectly.

kateyb 06-21-2011 07:32 PM

Dropped an open cutter on my foot when barefoot. Not pretty. Now wear shoes when cutting.
Hope you heal quickly.

deenatoo 06-21-2011 07:37 PM

Several years ago I did that too. I was very tired and should not have been cutting, but did. Friend took me to ER...they glued on the piece I cut off. It took a while to heal. That finger is a little mishapened...but it works....

desertrose 06-21-2011 07:57 PM

Sounds like that has to hurt a lot! May be it time for one of those finger guards that protects your finger from just such accidents. Of course Klutz Gloves wouldn't hurt either. I make use mine are tucked under my knuckles so this can't happen. Hope you have a speedy recovery. :-D :-D :-D

been there, done that, have the scar to prove it. Like you no way to stitch it. I just wrapped it and then wrapped some more til it stopped bleeding through. kept it that way a few days. has healed very nicely. Needless to say i keep a close eye on that cutter.

OMG i am so sorry and hope you feel better soon. Pls let us know in few days how you are doing.

fishnlady 06-21-2011 11:48 PM

I just about did that to the same finger last night. It cut into my fingernail but I stopped in time. Tiredness causes so many accidents. I sure am sorry for you and I hope you heal quickly.

ladybalcom 06-22-2011 12:33 AM

there is a klutz glove that is real good for people like us. made by fons & porter, sold at joanns. use a coupon.
great investment and not difficult to wear and work. this is also nice for pressing so you do not burn fingers either. Just saying.

Debra Mc 06-22-2011 09:13 AM

The more I read, we could all make a slasher film. Yuk, blood & meat everywhere. I have almost done this a few times but I am more app to sew my finger or get it caught under the presser foot when I should be paying more attention. Note to self, go to bed & don't sew or cut fabric when you are toooooooooo tired.

fishnlady 06-22-2011 11:53 AM

I am going to check out this klutz glove thing. Thanks

ladybalcom 06-22-2011 08:44 PM

Good idea. Much cheaper than a trip to er. ;)

larkley 06-22-2011 08:48 PM

It hurts me thinking about it. Feel better soon.
