Well I found out yesterday that a rotary cutter cuts more than fabric. The almighty left pointer finger. Trip to the ER, and they could not sew it back on. I cut the inside right up against the nail. I remembered a few hours later that I think I had the cutter on the ruler instead of next to it, I was extremely tired, and accidents happen that way. Hubby went to clean blood up in sewing room RIGHT AFTER IT HAPPENEDand there was the side of my finger laying there, and couldn't get it to stop bleeding, so grab it and to the ER. i GUESS IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE

I'm so sorry. I know that hurt a lot.

OWWIE!!! I hope your finger heals quickly. I'm waiting for the day I cut myself or sew my finger, I am that accident prone.

Hugs

OUCH! Hope you heal well and quickly. I always see on Fons and Porter TV show they wear a cutting glove when using the rotary cutter, guess it is a good habit to get into. I am going to buy one. Feel better.

rusty quilter 06-20-2011 03:36 AM

I am so sorry that happened to you.

Painiacs 06-20-2011 03:49 AM

Feel better!

MonnaL 06-20-2011 03:58 AM

Oh my gosh! This is one of my biggest fears, and I'm so sorry it happened to you!

I hope you feel better soon.

QuiltnNan 06-20-2011 04:20 AM

what a horrible accident. hope you heal quickly.

Tinabodina 06-20-2011 04:22 AM

I have found out that I never cut anything, including my fingure when I am tierd. So sorry you had to go through that - hope it heals very soon.

SparkMonkey 06-20-2011 04:24 AM

Owwwwwie owie owie! You know ice cream helps cure all ills, including missing chunks of finger. ;) I hope it heals quickly and you're back at your sewing table soon!

Tartan 06-20-2011 04:27 AM

Owwie, ouch, owwie, ouch!!!! That is terrible! Someone should invent the QUILTERS PURPLE HEART for anyone one that injures themselves that badly.

QuiltE 06-20-2011 04:36 AM

Ouch!! Reading your story sent my stomach for a flip. So sorry this happened to you ... and wish you well for a speedy recovery.

katyquilter 06-20-2011 04:40 AM

So sorry about your accident. I cut my pointy finger, including the fingernail last fall. Took a long time to heal!! Made me feel very insecure about using the rotary cutter for a long time, but I'm over it now :-)

pollyjvan9 06-20-2011 04:43 AM

I had exactly the same accident. I was stressed because a beloved grandson was in the ICU and was cutting pieces to take to the hospital with me. Ruler slipped and cut right along side my nail like yours did. Another grandson took me to the drugstore and bought some kind of bandages that you leave on until they fall off on their own. I did that and when it finally came off my finger was well! Tender but all healed. Am extremely careful now!

Dina 06-20-2011 05:02 AM

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope it heals quickly. Ouch.

pipp5 06-20-2011 05:13 AM

OUCH! Will take that to heart, I've cut myself several times, but never to that extent. Hope you heal up quickly!

hairquilt 06-20-2011 05:57 AM

Oh my Gosh-I fear doing that all the time-I take Warfarin so it would really be bad for it to happen to me- Hope you heal quickly!! You'll never do that again.

My daughter cut the whole tip of her finger off on a meat grinder at work. And she said that was PAINFUL. So I am sure that what you did was ALSO really painful. I hope that you heal fast and that it doesn't interfere with your sewing.

amma 06-20-2011 07:30 AM

Ouch!! (((HUGS)))

I worry about this and my husband. Especially when he is in his shop.

Jim's Gem 06-20-2011 11:21 AM

OW!!!!!! Be careful!! I took a little chunk out of the same finger about 4 weeks ago. It is still tender!!!!

montanajan 06-20-2011 11:12 PM

Ouch! I'm so sorry for you - know how thumping in your fingertip can be painful - praying it doesn't hurt for long & heals well.

wanda lou 06-20-2011 11:29 PM

ouch, hope you feel better.

akisan 06-20-2011 11:42 PM

My daughter ended up in the ER with the same problem. Two weeks ago I went and buy the Klutz glove at Joannes and I have been using it. You may want to think of getting one for yourself. Hope your finger heals soon.

Carol's Quilts 06-21-2011 04:09 AM

How awful for you! Get well and feel better soon!

What is a cutting glove and where are they sold? Thanks.

joycecil 06-21-2011 05:34 AM

Sorry for you. I'm praying for your healing and the rest of us to enjoy our craft with out mishaps.

MarthaT 06-21-2011 06:08 AM

When I watch Fons and Porter quilt show I think having to put that glove on every time they cut is such a hassle, but maybe in the long run it's worth it. I just barely nicked my finger the other day (no blood) and thought, you know I could really take a chunk out of there if I'm not careful. Maybe I need to pick up a glove too. Hope you heal quickly!

lorimax5859 06-21-2011 06:15 AM

So sorry for your accident. Those cutters can be fierce! Hoping for quick recovery.

ChildoftheUniverse 06-21-2011 06:36 AM

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that is one major ouchie! I did a little slice, but I will forever be vigilant now... a gentle hug for healing.

munchkinmama 06-21-2011 06:57 AM

Please get one of the big handles - cheap at Harbor Freight-for putting on top of your ruler. I am always afraid of that so I got one. You have already learned not to cut when tired. Hope it heals quickly.

KaysQuilts 06-21-2011 07:09 AM

I did nearly the same thing a few months ago. I managed to stop short of cutting it off (just a little piece of skin holding it on). Trip to the ER as well, they couldn't get it to stop bleeding either so put a turnicate on it to work on it. They ended up gluing it. I didn't know glue was so expensive! That little trip cost $812.00! Healed well, but still feels a little funny. I'm more careful now!
