That little guy is just so full of himself!
|
He's too funny.
Flirt is trying to get him outside and he's not wanting to go |
It is 7:30 pacific time ... west coast, whatever <g>
The baby just spent a minute or more nursing ... he is lining up better with mama and I am thinking (since she stopped eating and was just standing, that he was really getting full). Then, he did a little buck, walked away and folded his legs under him and laid down .... If foals are anything like calves, it takes a day or two to get all the coordination that is needed to nurse, clean out, and act "normal". Once they figure out how to really get a good meal ... it is KATY BAR THE DOOR! They don't take long to get a good meal and will do so more often as they are growing. And, the mare's bag only has so much room for milk at a time, so he has to eat often to get enough and make the amount of milk he needs to grow on. With a cow, the bag is three to four times bigger than an adult human head. With the little mare, I am thinking her bag MIGHT be bigger than three good navel oranges ... a cow has four teats ... the horse has two ... I didn't design them - - I just try to explain it <g>. Anyway, he looks like he is doing good. Bummer! I missed seeing the barn door getting opened up ... mom is enjoying the door jam, to say the least. I am off to set up a gazebo bash at the Post. Hope my information/input is helpful and accurate. |
Ok, all...I'm headed to bed.
Nitey nite all!! |
Nite Terri.. Thanks for keeping the midnight watch for us..

Omak thank you so much!!!
He is MUCH improved today!!! Hes acting much more like a normal foal and now spooks appropriately and is going outside etc. Its like he finally "woke" up today and realized hes a horse!!! Im soooooooo happy!!! Patches will be back on cam tonight and although shes huge doesnt look any closer to foaling yet. You all are the best foal watchers in the world! |
Kay, you don't suppose his "spooking" had anything to do with getting enemas do you? I know I would be spooked!! LOL
|
I have been watching him and mom for about ten minutes.
I don't know what happened, but he was laying all folded up, and then I came back and he was sort of stretched out. Mom never moved, but I could see her ears moving back and forth, so I knew my camera wasn't frozen <g>. Anyway, I got to thinking, watching mom and the foal ... he finally flipped his little tail ... Do you put a radio in the barn with the horses? I keep television/radio on all of the time if I am not home for my animals ... (and, censor the programming, so they won't be corrupted) ... and, it seems to socialize them really good. Do you do that with your horses? |
2:39 - -about fifteen minutes from when I started watching.
And, he popped up, mom had moved and I couldn't find him for a moment ... anyway, he popped up - - stretched really good, flipped his little tail a bit and then went to nursing ... perfectly lined up like you said he should be. |
sucked for 45 second to a minute ... while I typed the last bit.
I flip back to the webcam and he has disappeared again ... laying down!, but I see the head moving, so I am thinking ... if he ate and fainted ... he is rousing pretty well . I am going to check on him one more time. |
I can't tell what he is doing, but he is moving ... whether he is standing or laying ... couldn't tell you ... mom got between him and the camera, he is closest to the door ...
|
one more thing ... if, he is laying down, his legs are under him ... I am saying that based on what I can see of his face.
If you could tell me what the direction the door is (north, south, east, or west) I could give more details - - I know when I am depending on someone to give me information, I even want to know what the flies looked like that bit her on the nose ... <g> I think it is that compulsive thing. Am really enjoying watching all the life and living. I am off to take a nap. |
How cool is that!
I just had to check on more time. Mom is standing over to the feed box side, baby is laying in the middle of the floor ... he is bobbing his head this way and that, legs folded up under him ... which is what I was seeing his head do before .. I leave it to the boss to decide if baby is improving, but he is looking very alert. |
He is so much more alert!! And he jumps now when we go in etc which is much more like a normal foal. We have not had to wake him up today at all and he has only fainted once that I know of. I wish we could have let him and flirt out more today but its been storming all day
We went ahead and moved him and mom to another stall so we could get Patches back on cam. Thank you guys so much for all your help. Dont know what I would do without my quilting buddies We do play a radio quite a bit out there but not all the time. Mares about to foal really like things very quiet. I think it goes back to when they were wild and had to hide to foal? after all the foals are born we play it all night to keep predators out |
Kay, I'm glad he's back to being a foal.
He sure is a cutie! I just want to reach in and hug on him! I'm sure with all his antics, Flirt wants to strangle him at times. lmao |
I sure will miss watching Rumor and Flirt....will have to watch for pictures...BUT am excited to be mare staring Patches, now :D   :D
|
So glad to hear Rumour is doing better! Now come on Patches!
