Since I am late posting this thread I will leave the sign ups open a couple of extra days. With the start of the school year and the holiday weekend the end of August creeped up on me. The FQ theme for September is pink. Good luck to everyone.
Pat

Exercise is good for you; no doubt.....but at WW recently I learned that for losing weight, it's more about what you put into your mouth. It's 75% about food and 25% about activity.

I really hope this is true, Pam. That would make me pretty happy.

KalamaQuilts 09-01-2014 10:08 AM

haha meanmom, I hate it when Anything creeps up on me :)

From my observation you have to exercise like a professional athlete to lose serious weight.
Think about what you Do do now, and use this calculator.
https://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc
We don't all burn calories at the same rate because we are different sizes to begin with.

My mantra is small plate smaller servings. So easy to forget in this country of plenty.

All that said, Any exercise is good for our health. Period.
My fitbit reports are always between 22-25 miles a week. Yes, I go out and actually walk (today so far it was 3000 steps around the Port while Rob rode his bike). 10,000 is touted as the goal for healthy activity. So instead of doing that multitasking we all seem to have in our genes, I don't wait until I have 4 things to take upstairs. If I have something in my hand that needs to go up, up I go. That is 26 stairsteps plus walking to and from :) It all adds up.

Maybe get yourself a couple of really pretty small dish settings. and use them, it will help jog the memory about servings. I love Blue Willow sandwich plate and a small blue Willow oval platter I use. They just make me smile...

I'm not in it for the fabric, I'm using my stash, but I do enjoy sharing our tips and tricks and knowing we aren't going it alone.
Sharyn

KalamaQuilts 09-01-2014 10:21 AM

I'm back...
According to Fitbit/MyFitnessPal and the above link I burn about 1600 calories a day.
It takes 3500 calories to gain or lose a pound. Last month I lost 2 pounds which means I burned at least 7000 calories more than I consumed. To lose quicker I'd probably need to target about 1200 max calories a day. But I'm not on a diet, I'm trying to stay alive. More about that later :(

joogoo 09-01-2014 10:40 AM

I'm in. I need a challenge to get me going. I've been thinking about it to long. That didn't work!

PenniF 09-01-2014 12:01 PM

I'm in please.....i have GOT to lose the 25 lbs i gained when i quit smoking last year....I am at 14 months non-smoker after 45 years smoking.....and i've been trying to lose this weight since January!!!....(only GOOD thing, i haven't GAINED any more since then) I can't fit into any of my clothes and i sure can't afford to buy new ones - other than a couple pairs of jeans -- Back on WW and hoping that this will also help with the support i need.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE !!!

Pete 09-01-2014 01:40 PM

Count me in for September. Did I send in my pink already? This old brain isn't working.
I am not doing BIG losses each month, but I am losing and that is what makes me happy!!!!!!
Thanks for doing this, Mean Mom! Jim's Gem - I am sooo jealous! I wanted 6, but was never blessed with children. PenniF - congrats on quitting smoking! I also quit smoking (20 years ago) and now can't stand the smell of smoke. If you put away, each week, the $$$ you would have spent on cigarettes you could get a whole new wardrobe in no time! I saved mune and then used it to travel.

gramma nancy 09-01-2014 04:06 PM

I'm in. This will help motivate me. I rejoined WW for the umpteenth time in Aug. and lost 10.4 pounds in three weeks eating only the "Simple Start" menu. I seem to have leveled off now, so this challenge will, I hope, keep me focused.

Good luck to everyone of us!

Teddybear Lady 09-01-2014 04:32 PM

I want to be in again for September. I've sent my FQ in already.

Jim's Gem 09-01-2014 05:37 PM

Pete, I guess I should say, 4 grand babies and one more on the way in January. This one is supposed to be a girl. Yes, I am so very blessed. One of my, sort of, goals in life is to have more grands than children and #5 will do that for me. I have 4 children. These grands are all from my oldest 2

meanmom 09-02-2014 04:57 PM

I have FQ from meanmom, Pete, bjsmith57, PamH, TeddyBearLady, Purl, Nic14 Cindy A. I have been driving my elderly uncle to PT. He always wants to go out to dinner or ice cream afterwards. It is his way of paying my sister and I. Against my better judgement we went to Wendy's today. I ate a smoked gouda chicken sandwich. Sounds delicious, but it was disappointing. So not worth the calories! I am sure it was a lot of WW points.

meanmom 09-02-2014 05:13 PM

Don't forget to PM me your loss for August.

beckya81 09-02-2014 08:34 PM

Count me in. I am working on losing some weight. It's always nice to join others to keep me motivated.

PenniF 09-03-2014 10:51 AM

Just dropped my Sept pink FQ in the mailbox !!!!

mateoh 09-03-2014 01:08 PM

PenniF Congratulations on the Quitting Smoking. With our Open Heart surgery patients we are now stressing the importance of quitting smoking first and than we tackle the change in diet. You should be very proud of yourself. And, the weight will come off, one day at a time.

August has been more or less a holding pattern for me but the scale has already started to move along again in September.

Pete, I do have six children , 4 girls, 2 boys. My baby girl just started her 2nd year of college. I am expecting my first grandchild a boy- today. So far no news and my daughter doesn't seem to think it will be anytime soon.

Good luck to all and here's to making some progress for all of us.

nlc14 09-04-2014 05:22 AM

I am in. Sent my FQ in last month. I need to fit into a dress for a wedding by the 27th, so I am in big trouble! PenniF, congratulations on quitting smoking. I quit in 2002.

jeanne49 09-04-2014 06:59 AM

Sent my FQ out today, but I forgot to put a label on the material, but my mailing address is on the envelope. Good luck everyone!!

AllyStitches 09-04-2014 10:40 AM

Can I just join in on the chit chat? I've been on a medically supervised liquid fast since May, so I'm not sure if it's fair for me to be in the challenge. I've lost 45+ pounds, but my weight loss has slowed down and I could use some encouragement to stick with it. I exercise a lot and the doctor says that this is why it's taking me longer. Doesn't that just seem wrong!

Pam H 09-04-2014 12:04 PM

Of course you can join us, Ally! The more the merrier!
Welcome to our newbies! This is a great place to be when you are trying to lose weight and get healthy.

meanmom 09-04-2014 02:57 PM

Welcome to all the newbies. And of course all of us who have been on here for a while. I was up 1 pound in August. I thought it would be worse. I have been doing better so far this month. One thing that should help is I am at a new school. I have been told there aren't nearly as many goodies brought in to this building as the old one. There were sweets of some sort at least 2x a week last year.
It is still so hot at school. Tomorrow is supposed to be the last hot day, 93 with really high humidity. No AC. My student who was rotten last year has been slowly starting to act up this year. Today he decided he was going to go back to his old ways. He didn't quite make it to the principals office but was close. The goal is to document everything and get him in to the behavior unit. The director of special ED for some reason fought it last year. She pretty much never saw him.
I made fajitas for dinner tonight. Lots of peppers and onions with a little bit of steak. They are really yummy. Heading up to the sewing room for my nightly mental therapy. Gotta keep my sanity some way.
Pat

PenniF 09-06-2014 03:08 PM

I have a question please - if you have what you think is a good, filling, wholesome, low cal / low "points" recipe - do you share them here for others who might want to try it?
Been doing well i think -- marking down every morsel that goes in my mouth and counting my points (i use the OLD points method from WW cuz it worked for me before). Staying away from the scale, because i tend to get discouraged if it doesn't say what i think it should....but DH has already lost 7 pounds since 25 August.
PS.... i also didn't put a label on my FQ - but my envelope has my return address label. Sorry.

meanmom 09-07-2014 04:34 AM

Yes we post recipes from time to time. Your FQ will be fine, I always check the return address. Yes WW is what works best for me. I need to get back to it. Knowing that I can eat whatever I want as long as I count it seems to work well with the way my mind works. If I know I can't have something I will HAVE TO have it.
Good Luck.
Pat

Congrats on quitting smoking, Penni! That is quite a feat after 45 years! You go girl! WW will give you the support you need to lose those unwanted pounds and your success at non smoking, I hope you're sharing that at the meetings. I've lost 26 lbs. since May/june. I did an experiment in August to maintain what I had lost and actually lost a couple pounds in the end so stick with the plan and you'll be successful in your weight loss journey as well. I'm still doing the "Simple Start" and it's working for me so far, will switch over to counting points when I get to a plateau. I didn't join the September challenge, but will cheer everyone on. Good luck to all and have a healthy month of eating and losing those lbs. Marie

silverfoxmag 09-07-2014 05:19 AM

Ally congrats on your loss and don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat so that's why your loss has slowed down, you're gaining muscle mass exercising, which is a good thing. You'll lose inches which is also a good thing. Sure wish our doctors shared this info. Keep up the good work, there's a rainbow at the end of your journey that promises to be beautiful! BTW, that goes for all of us. GOOD LUCK ALL!

meanmom 09-07-2014 01:43 PM

The winner for August is sewbeit42, with a loss of 4 pounds. Congratulations and keep up the good work. I will send the FQ out ASAP.

good job sewbitit!
we have new babies here! I've spent the better part of the day sitting in front of the playpen googlyeyed.
Haven't a clue what they will look like, the mother is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbu_d%27Uccle
and the father is an old english game hen, both bantys.

AllyStitches 09-07-2014 04:45 PM

Love the chickens! My mom has her first brood and she's very excited. I get text messages from her that just plain *sound* googley eyed! :-)

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was good-- just sticking to the fast. We were pretty busy, and then today went for a mountain bike ride. I had personal records on all of the segments except for the downhills. I don't try for those because I'd rather have my neck in tact! I weigh in on Tuesday so am hoping for a decent loss this week. I didn't exercise as much as usual due to some issues with headaches, so maybe the scale will be gentler on me!

Pete 09-08-2014 08:24 AM

Went to a BD party yesterday ad yes, I had cakeand ice cream. Then, thi AM my DH brought me a breakfast Taco. Will start all over ---need to start journaling.
