Sewing for Baby... little wardrobe

5 Attachment(s)
I just finished these little clothes to give to my daughter at her baby shower on Saturday. She ordered the fabrics herself and I made the styles I wanted to make. Lots of fun for this grandma to be...

Surplice bodice dress and ruffled romper in Cotton and Steel's Mad Tea Party fabrics.

Bonnie, each one is adorable...your grand daughter is going to be the best dressed baby! I need to see if I can get a romper pattern in a 24 month size... and that sweater is too cute.

Your DD is going to love your gifts.

Your DGD will be the best dressed little girl around. Those are just precious and the sweater is a treasure. I have sweaters saved from my babies who now have babies of their own.

Doggramma 01-31-2019 06:30 AM

Oh my goodness, those are so darling! I used to sew a lot for my daughter when she was small. They didn’t have such cute fabrics back then.

grammasharon 01-31-2019 06:31 AM

You do beautiful work! Adorable little outfits for a precious baby.

Garden Gnome 01-31-2019 06:38 AM

Little girls have come a long way from pink ruffles, haven't they?
Your creations are lovely, and look exceptionally well made. Have fun with that grand daughter!

oksewglad 01-31-2019 07:39 AM

jmoore, the long romper and the pink dress are from New Look pattern #DO941. It goes up to a "large" which is for a 21-24 lb child, and 31-34" tall.

The ruffled bubble romper is from New Look pattern # DO570, in the same size range.

Those are just precious! Your grand baby is going to be the cutest baby in town. That knitted sweater is adorable. I always wished I had taken knitting classes. Seems like I've always been a "self taught" gal & never got past things like cast on, purl & knit when it came to knitting and chain, single crochet & double crochet when it came to crocheting. Well, one can't make much with those limited skills. :D

Mariposa 01-31-2019 09:51 AM

Darling clothes! You are very talented!

NZquilter 01-31-2019 10:39 AM

So cute!!! I love the ruffle romper!

sJens 01-31-2019 11:46 AM

Super cute clothes for your new granddaughter.

Jordan 01-31-2019 12:36 PM

Such a wonderful wardrobe you have made for your new little one. They are all so cute and beautifully done. The sweater is gorgeous. Your daughter is lucky to have someone that sews such cute clothes.

Actually, those skills are about all that is in that sweater. Its very easy... "The 5 Hour Baby Sweater" (if you knit fast!) There are some increases to make the yoke round, but that is just knitting into the front and back of the stitch. And there are decreases at the sleeve cuffs, but those are just knitting two sts together. There are some great video tutes online for the "self taught" knitter. I am self taught too. Learned waaaaayyy before the internet, by following diagrams in magazines. When I was a teenager all the Family Circle and Women's Day magazines had knitting instruction and patterns. Now they only have sex, diets and food. :(

Try these video tutes. If you don't like them, there are plenty more available online by different teachers.

They are very lovely.

zozee 01-31-2019 07:57 PM

Darling, darling, darling clothes! You are obviously having all kinds of fun making while waiting! I know the anticipation is ca-RAZY! You're gonna have a blast being a grandma. I love the little dresses and the sweater. WHat blessed grandbabies to have a grandma who can make just about anything!

quiltingshorttimer 02-01-2019 12:02 AM

your granddaughter will be on the "best dressed" list! Adorable.

copycat 02-01-2019 04:22 AM

I enjoyed the lovely outfits you made...oh so cute. Congrats on your bundle of love on the way!

I would like to know the name of the pattern for the sweet knit sweater, if you used one please. I have knitted a few blankets and hats. I am not a Grandma yet, but I would love to try to knit a baby sweater. Thank you for the photos.

SusieQOH 02-01-2019 05:23 AM

Bonnie, I already commented on your wonderful creations but when I saw the bag you made your DIL (I think that was who you made it for) I was bowled over by your talent. If you sold them in your Etsy shop I'd buy one ASAP!!! :)

sewbizgirl 02-01-2019 06:02 AM

Copycat, it’s called The 5 Hour Baby Sweater, and various versions have been around for decades. The pattern I used was this one: https://www.themakeyourownzone.com/w...er-updated.pdf

Some advice: It is knit from the top down, and the yoke will become very full before you divide for the sleeves. When your needle becomes crowded, switch to a circular needle and knit back and forth. Once you divide for the sleeves you can go back to using straight needles.

The sweater is little, one size only: About 3-6 month size. Perfect size for a new baby gift.

sewbizgirl 02-01-2019 06:05 AM

SusieQOH, thank you for your compliment! Why don’t you try and make one? It’s a great “ByAnnie.com” pattern.

lorimax5859 02-01-2019 06:31 AM

Best dressed baby!!! They are all so cute!

SusieQOH 02-01-2019 09:16 AM

Bonnie, I lack the confidence to make that bag. Yours looked like you bought it at a high-end boutique!
But maybe I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for the info.

tuckyquilter 02-01-2019 12:46 PM

THOSE are just adorable. You are one lucky gal that the DD wants custom outfits for her new baby.

givio 02-02-2019 11:59 AM

It always seems more fun to make little girl clothes than little boy clothes. And you can go from this size to a size bigger and keep at until you notice she is wearing clothes like the other teens and not the ones you made her. :-p

lynnie 02-03-2019 12:16 PM

the cloths you made for the new little baby are precious heirlooms. I can sew, but knitting is extremely difficult for me. I really admire that. beautiful work.

SusieQOH 02-07-2019 03:43 PM

Lynnie is right about this. I have every hand-knit item that my relatives and friends made for my 3 boys. Also some handmade clothes but I didn't get as many. They are so special!

sewbizgirl 02-07-2019 03:45 PM

Thank you, friends!

DD just said today that she needs more sweaters, so back to the needles I go.
