Brings back old memories. I used to live on a farm, we ended up raising 2 fawns. The mother had gotton caught in fencing and died. The female was as gentle as she could be. She followed us around like a pup. She would even come inside and spend the night on a large dog bed with NO accidents! When it was hunting season, I would paint her in cattle marker orange and we even had a flouresent orange collar on her. The farm was leased out for hunting, so all the guys knew her. Finally she was accepted back into the wild and the following year she brought her 2 babies back to show us. And YES we did get the collar off her, she had went missing for about 2 months. She finally came back and allowed me to take it off!

amyjo 08-24-2011 06:21 AM

we used to have herds of deer living in our trees for the winter but the winters have been so bad lately that our deer are being thinned out. I took my pictures of the moose and twins to Staples last night and had some 8 x 10" prints made to hang on the walls. Now I have to dig out my frames. And yes I made the front page of our weekly newspaper with the pic of the moose close up. Will never see that again.

akrogirl 08-24-2011 07:05 AM

Maybe, after DH retires, we will eventually be able to move to somewhere that has deer, and we won't care how many of our plants they eat!

flowerjoy 08-24-2011 07:09 AM

She is really beautiful... and probably grateful for your kindness. You may like to see Youtube: Kate and Pippin. Nature is beautiful.

what great pictures and how nice to have them come into your yard!
when I lived out in the country I had a birdfeeder outside my bedroom window. the turkeys found it and before long if there wasnt enough food out there they would peck on the house so I would toss out a handfull for them! It was hysterical!!!

wanda lou 08-24-2011 03:24 PM

beautiful

amandasgramma 08-24-2011 03:32 PM

Ditto!!!! Our local nursery has a family that feeds the deer. Unfortunately they think her greenhouses, etc, are a buffet bar and eat all her plants!!!!! yip -- a small war going on there!!!

we have 4 dogs always fenced.the deer ignore them when they bark.they know the dogs can not chase them.

EskapetheNorm 08-24-2011 05:25 PM

They have been loving our tomato plants this year. Kept the plants to a manageable size as the deer didn't eat past the cages nor do they seem to like the tomatoes themselves.

Such a peaceful girl. I am sure that she is grateful to you for giving her the food.

belmer 08-25-2011 08:19 AM

Beautiful pic. I could sit for hours watching the deer and birds and all the other critters that come to visit us. We even had a huge black bear in the spring, but he eventually went away, (thank goodness)

virgwid 08-25-2011 08:30 AM

I have a friend that a couple years ago found a dead mom (hit by car), and the fawn just laying beside her. Took her home, and we all got to come bottle feed her and take care of her. They are such sweet, incredibly wonderful creatures. Can't understand how anyone could hunt them (I am a firm believer that all meat originates in those little saran wrapped packages in the store). she eventually went to live with a friend of theirs who integrated her back into the wild. I remember petting her, nuzzling with her, and watching my son be chased by her. Thanks for the memory! Virg

Here they can't tell the difference between my flower beds, garden plants and trees. They are a menace to all here in the very rural area where I live. So many get injured hitting them with cars, they do crop damage and my DH and I have hit 4 of them ourselves, 2 each.

we have friends who raised one like that last year-it played like a dog with my grand kids.he was not penned in so he blended with the wild ones but still comes to visit this year.
