Hi all. This is Country1's husband. Of late, I've made a few postings of my own using Miss Penny's membership. We joked about me registering myself so I don't have to explain each time who I am. My interest is in vintage and antique machines mostly, which make me happy by virtue of their complexity, machining expertise and paint schemes. I actually sew very little, but grew up with Momma sewing for Daddy, herself, my sister and me all through the 60's and 70's. She wore out two machines I remember, and had one of the first Singer Athena 2000's to hit Louisville, KY back in the very early 70's.....$900 as I recall, when a VW bug could be bought new for $2000. I remember the sights, scents and sounds of Momma crafting away, and often went to the fabric stores with her when I wasn't with Daddy at the hardware or shooting range. I used to love touching the fabrics, and stood in awe of the Coats and Clark thread cabinet. My grandfather and step grandmother together hand quilted daily when he retired from farming, so men a-quilting is normal to me also. Interestingly, on one Ruger gun owner forum a few weeks back, I posted a question asking about other hobbies members have. I shared that I love sewing machines, which brought out a lively, lengthy thread wherein many other men talked about their machines and enthusiasm for the craft!
I would not be a frequent poster, but also don't want to use up bandwidth others may need. My name on several shooting sport enthusiast forums is Tallbald, as well as on leather crafting forums. Thoughts appreciated. Don |
Yes, you should register as well. There is a whole section on vintage machines. Then we would know right away it was you and you would not have to give the intro stuff each time and get right to the discussion (smile). I vote yes, register (IMHO).

Is that a dulcimer on your lap? Don

Register Don! My DH isn't interested in the sewing part but he has helped me with fabric choices because he has a wonderful eye for color and does the layout sometimes. His always look better than mine so we have a partnership of sorts! My dad's best friend used to cross stitch and did some beautiful things. We all need an outlet!
|
I'm late to this post... so I'll just say WELCOME!!
|
Yes, we are waiting.

My vote is yes too I've noticed that there are several men on here and there is a section I believe on vintage machines so by all means drop on in and chat. It doesn't matter if your here on occasion it gives you someone to chat with. I'm very thankful for our board and the nice people I've met here.
|
Of course you should register. Why would anyone possibly say you shouldn't? There are a number of memebers who are into the older sewing machines like yourself.
Ah, go ahead and sign on up and welcome. |
glad you made the LEAP of faith and dove right into your own QB profile!
|
No more lurking, Don. Come on and join the fun!! LOL

I'm glad you have registered. I saw your post in the new members section. I don't think you should worry about bandwidth, we don't seem to have a problem with that here. As for only using it occassionally...I think you should use it EVERYDAY so that we can have another addict among us!
|
Yes go for it!!!

Welcome TallBald (Don) from California

Hi Don and welcome! I think it is awesome that you would care to join us here. I say we all have something to learn from each other and you could definately help with the mechanical questions we all have from time to time. Please do make your own account and let us know who you are!
|
Welcome and I think a lot of us like to have anyone here with knowledge of the old machines. We can pick your mind if we are having problems!
