I have a self-cleaning oven which is great during cool weather, but not so much during hot Texas summers when we try not to heat the house up. I will try this tip--thanks!

Thanks for sharing! I have a self cleaning oven but I HATE the smell in the house while it's cleaning. Oranges and vinegar makes so much sense for so many cleaning jobs especially in the kitchen!

Sewing Sew. the ammonia in a bag trick does work! I have used it for years, learned it from a lady with rent houses that she had to clean after renters left the ovens in need of cleaning. Use it in a well ventilated area and open the bag away from your face. The fumes are strong.

I do this and it works great.It's the fumes that losen the greasy stuff. I used to scrape my burners now I just put them in a 2 gallon zip lock bag with 1/4 cup ammonia. Let them set overnight and the next day most will just slip off the rest I use a kitchen srubby on. (plastic made like a brillo pad) Takes no time and works great. I have to scrub a little where I have previously scraped the finish off before using this trick. i'm gonna try this new trick too.

I'm glad to know that the ammonia trick works. I once had a stove and I left the racks in the oven during the self-cleaning cycle. They were the slide out kind and they never slid out easily again after I did that.

The ammonia in trash bags does work, I did it for a few hrs.
