My double sink is in my island, but the island is ten feet long, so there is plenty of room for buffet style serving, sitting with the laptop on one end, seating, so it just depends on how long your island will be

My daughters and I, all have islands in our kitchen. One daughter has sink and "bar" with stools set up. Mine is just plain counter top, nothing else. Other daughter has a beautiful stone top with sink and buffet area with "bar" set up (can sit at the counter). They come to my house when they have projects because "It's easier at your house"! Nothing in the way, I even baste my quilts on my islands, among other things. All sorts of projects have been done at my island including Thanksgiving and Christmas buffets. NO SINK!

I also use my island to lay out my quilts for basting the top and bottom together. A sink would be in the way

No sink/bar etc. Islands must stay clear for pinning of quilts.

I love my island for buffets, family gatherings and occasionally a space for cutting up fabric :) No sink in the island!

I have a nice big island in my kitchen. It has the cook top on it and it is wonderful. I serve buffet and have used it for cutting long pieces of material. My worst problem is that my family thinks it is a depository for everything and anything. It is usually cluttered and I just hate that because it makes the kitchen look messy.

I agree with the lady from Louisiana, you will get all kinds of confidences from grandchildren and children while cooking. LOL

I agree. I once had an island and loved all that flat space for prep work! Sinks can go in a counter against the wall...where they belong. :o

I have had islands with and without sinks. I vote NO SINK.

I have a sink and dishwasher on the island and do not like it there. A sink needs to be near a window so you can look outside while cleaning up.

I sure wouldn't put a sink (or cooktop or anything else) in the island. It's my cutting surface. I even bought a cutting mat big enough to pretty much cover the whole thing.
