I have had sleep apnea for over 10 years, and it didn't take long to get used to. Some nights I woke up with the mask in my hand, in the air. But it is worth getting a good nights sleep, safely. Good luck and soon you will be sleeping like a baby!

by all means, try the CPAP. long term effects of sleep apnea can include cognitive difficulties ( having problems thinking, remembering, reasoning? they all can be a part of it.) there can be problems with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, heart attack, chest pain, stroke, increase in traffic accidents, poor work performance. it's sometimes a bother to get used to the machine, but it can be a life changing thing.

an article (just brief) is here: http://brendawilliams.articlesbase.c...ea-658566.html

be good to yourself. try the machine. it could help keep you healthy for a lot longer. (from the heart of an anesthetist, who works with airways and breathing difficulties every day! we ask patients with CPAP to bring it with them to the hospital. it's that important!)

I've used a cpap for over 10 years and have found I can' sleep without it! If I had my druthers I wouldn't use one but it has saved my life and I'm grateful to whom ever invented it! It made a world of difference in my life!

I'm a user! Was diagnosed a couple of years ago when I was 41. My husband told me when I was 34 he thought I had sleep apnea. I would laugh it off. Then after I had my son at 38 I went to talk to ob/gyn about my blood work because I was tired all the time and did not want to have sex. He said you just had a baby and you are in college, you should be tired. Then he told me I should let my husband get a girl friend! (another story for another day). Any way, I left crying.moving forward a few years. Went to another doctor with same complaints. She said I had mild post partum depression. After two years of having my son! So she gave me welbutrin. I took for two weeks and then quit because it didn't feel right. Now a couple years later, went to another doctor, told her my history. She said I think you have sleep apnea.

So have severe sleep apnea. Stopped breathing 59 times a minute. I cried when I finally got a diagnosis for me being so tired!!!!! I thank god for my machine. I use it every night and when I travel. Now I can't sleep with out it.

I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP. It took quite a bit of time to get used to it. I went through 3 masks and now use nasal "pillows". The headgear and delivery system have to be the right fit for you. I would not try to sleep without it now. I sleep MUCH better than before.

When my DH was diagnosed with apnea, he tried my mask and geasr one night. He had trouble with the mask pulling on his facial hair, even though he shaved before going to bed. His sleep specialist suggested the nasal pillows. They are the right choice for both of us.

Same here. My husband got his back in 1998, and I've had mine about 3 years. I've only missed one night without it back in 2009 when we had the bad ice storm and everyone in town's electricity was off. My sleep was so much better that it didn't take me long to adjust to having it on at night.

My husband has used one for years and it has helped him so very much. He would actually stop breathing, scared the dickens out of me. It is just a normal part of our life now and thank goodness it was diagnosed and treatec.

I also have sleep apnea and find that while the mask and hose is a pain in the butt, my days are better when I use it. Downside is dry mouth and no reading in bed (unless I read without my glasses...lol).
