go to your local walgreens or pharmacy get a bottle of melatonin

Looks like this, they have a generic version.

http://www.walgreens.com/store/catal..._sku=sku308656

This is what it does..
http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders...tonin-overview

I use it almost every night and we give it to our daughter when she has trouble sleeping (which is rare) I used to take Ambien but i like melatonin better. No side effects and you dont get that drowsy feeling.

give it to your hubby then.

Yes, sleep apnea is a problem for alot - my machine helps alot when I wear it at night. Stopping breathing causes alot of problems, naturally. If your DH jerks alot, he might be having alot of circulation problems - does he exercise at all, or do stretches? Has he gained a little weight lately?? Good luck - it can be nerve racking!

My hubby has sleep apnea. Not something to mess around with. He finally has accepted the fact that he has to sleep with his machine. His snoring was so loud before that the windows would rattle. (small exaggeration)

Here are a couple suggestions for him - shower before going to bed. Feeling dirty in bed is very uncomfortable to me and I haven't skipped a shower prior to going to bed for over 20 years. Also, lotion up! It helps the skin feel loosened up and will help the uncomfortable feeling in skin. Worth trying, right?? Good luck!!

I would definitely get him checked. My husband had major surgery last year. Cannot sleep past 4:00am. Sometimes anesthesia can have a lasting effect. Sometimes it takes over a year to rid the body of it.

Yes, get to a doctor! If you don't sleep, your driving will suffer to the point that it is worse then drinking.
Mine was fibromylgia -sorry about spelling.I had sleep debravation. I was falling asleep at the wheel, at the cmputer you name it - until I was diagnosed.
I now take a 1/2 sleeping pill, now I sleep through the night.
I am happy when I wake up and lots of energy.
Sleep is important.

I think I'd check with a naturopathic doctor and see if there might be some vitamins or minerals he's low on. Sometimes just correcting our levels makes a huge difference in how our body functions. And please do some reading on the Internet about Vitamin D3.

Rainy Day 06-18-2010 05:44 PM

Give him a massage with lavender scented oil every night before bed. You can go topless, if you think that will help.

i liked the temperpedic, but dh refused to purchase anything until i was able to lie on my side for 45 minutes without feeling like i had to move...did i feel like a fool in the store!

but it works great, and he sleeps much better even if i'm having a bad nite. so maybe YOU need the temperpedic...so YOU can get some sleep!

Sounds like restless leg syndrome. I have it and with the help of medication am able to get a good nights sleep. Go to a sleep doctor and do the overnight sleep study. A restful, peaceful night will be just around the corner.

Sounds like my problem. Seems to be very common but certainly can keep you up at night. My DH said even when I am sleeping, my legs "jump". Been going on for years. Doctor prescribed gabapentin (generic for neurontin ) . Helps quite a bit. Relief seems to come only when standing. Maybe the body weight pressing down on the nerves does it. As soon as I get off my feet it starts.

brushandthimble 06-18-2010 08:13 PM

Sounds like my problem too. This is the second night I have gone to bed and then gotten up 1/2 hour or so later, cann't get to sleep. Have now been on the board for over an hour, it is now 12:11am.

Go to bed tired but cann't get to sleep. Good thing though my DH sleeps right through all my tossing and turning.

I take 2 tylenol pm and 1 melatonin each night, no help there.

I had a similar problem. I felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin, couldn't sleep, constantly had to move and adjust myself, and I did have leg cramps too. When I started taking Tryptophan and 500 MGs of Magnesium per night, within three days I had such relief! The Tryptophan is an amino acid and is calming, and the Magnesium (which is something we are all very depleted in as we age), is relaxing to the muscles. I now sleep very well, and soundly. I suffered for about 4 years off and on with this problem. Now, I only take the tryptophan occaisionally but I would never go without the magnesium nightly. I tried melatonin, but it takes a good month to get over the moring hangover it can cause some people and that was too long for me to wait for the adjustment.

I don't trust drugs and avoid them at all cost, so I am always looking for the most natural solutions possible.

One thing to also check is to be sure there is nothing he is ingesting after 5 PM or so, that has any kind of caffine or stimulant in it.

Hope this helps in some way.

Diane

I went through this for a while a couple of years ago and discovered that my skin felt like it was crawling and itchy because it was dry. Put on some cream (not lotion) and slept with a fan on - was gone first night.

I agree.

I have RLS and take horsechestnut for it. I buy mine at WalMart under the name of Venastat. Works great for me, but I am not on any prescription meds. If he isn't you might want to give it a try. RLS symptoms though are just a restless feeling in your legs that you feel you need to move them. He may have a B vitamin deficiency, that can lead to depression, etc. I ran out of mine once and fell into a miserable depression, cleared up in a matter of hours after getting back on my vitamins. He can go to a good health food store and get "muscle tested" for supplements he might need.

I had a problem with restless leg syndrome and it's impossible to sleep. Have him go to the Dr and see what they can do.

Good Luck !!:)

I am with the others. Hubby needs to see his Doctor. It's better to know and get help for the problem, or at least find out it is not anything to worry about. Knowing is better.

Hes been taking horse chestnut for years. We'll check into the vit. B. Thanks!

Annz 06-19-2010 03:30 PM

Sorry to hear this but he definately needs to see his Doctor.

GrammaNan 06-19-2010 08:21 PM

If he has had a new prescription or had a change in meds it could be related. He may need a sleep study done. I had one done because I was dizzy all of the time and all the CT scans and ENT docs tests came out OK. The last result was a sleep study and now I sleep with a CPAP machine and all those icky symptoms are gone. I was not aware how many different sleep disorders there are, there are several. I tried to treat it with margaritas, but that didn't work either...darn it.

zz-pd 06-22-2010 12:12 AM

If I don't take trazadone, I would never sleep, and sometimes I still don't sleep on it, they call mine a sleep disoreder. God bless. Penny

marsye 06-30-2010 04:55 PM

.

proudmom914 07-12-2010 09:52 PM

have him sleep with a bar of soap that help with leg cramps and RLS.the ivory soap does not work .

Janetlmt 07-13-2010 02:54 AM

I have had that same thing..RLS. I found that if I take a nice hot bubble bath before going to bed..and take one..just one..tylenol pm..that I rest better. DH and I bought something I couldn't live without..a 4 inch memory foam mattress pad..makes you fell like "BUTTA" I hope he finds what is ailing him. Not getting the right rest is terrible. Marsye..take him to the doctor.
NAG NAG NAG..we are behind you..
Peace and Blessings

Oh what a miserable feeling....been there...I have that from time to time...if it was every night it would drive me crazy....and that's not a long drive anyway. Some dumb doctors don't realize rls can affect more then legs. I would end up walking the floor until I dropped from exaustion...It hasn't happened to me in a while and I hope it never does again!......Does your hubby have back problems? I suspected mine was related to all the back problems I have....I hope he finds some relief soon.
