Hubs is having problems sleeping. Its been going on for awhile now. He says he feels miserable all over when he lays down. Hes not in pain, he just feels miserable. I had this many years ago and it just finally went away. It feels like your skin is crawling or something, hard to explain how it feels. Also whenever he does doze off he jerks alot. Any ideas?

Pam 06-16-2010 05:49 PM

He needs to talk to his doc about restless leg syndrome, could be related. Sleep issues are a BIG deal, pay attention. My Dad died from a heart condition triggered by sleep apnea.

craftybear 06-16-2010 05:51 PM

he may have sleep apnea

Sorry about your Dad Pam

Hubs doesn't have the symptoms of sleep apnea.
RLS might be a possibility.

Woodster 06-16-2010 05:55 PM

Hmmm. I'd have him make a doc appointment. Is he taking any new meds, either over the counter, prescription, or herbal? They didn't leave something in during his colonoscopy did they (only kidding). Go to WebMD and put in the symptoms and see if anything comes up. I'd still have him see the doc, though.

So sorry to hear your DH is having sleep troubles.I jerk and jump a lot myself, only the past few years since I am older now. Maybe its restless leg symdrome, I also had and still have problems with sleeping. I had been on some nasty pain meds, the Dr. has taken me off about 1 month ago, had a real bad 8 days of withdrawls, but still have some trouble with sleeping. If its nothing like above, maybe he should go to a sleep study lab and get checked out. Its not good if your body cannot get the rest it needs. Sleep helps us repair our bodies and minds. Lace

Sorry, meant your dad.

Maybe he should see the Doc maybe RLS or depression and or worrying about something. Let us know how he is doing. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers

momymom 06-16-2010 06:01 PM

Marsye, take him to the dr tomorrow. It may turn out to be nothing, but you never can tell. Especially since he had surgery recently. I think it's more scary not knowing what's wrong.

Pam 06-16-2010 06:06 PM

Marsye, thanks, he has been gone a long time now. He was a great guy, still missed.

Maride 06-16-2010 06:08 PM

I had RLS as a reaction to a medication while I was pregnant. I didn't want to take it, but I was so sick that I needed it to help me hold a little food down. The symptoms are horrible and you just don't want to lay down at all. I found that not even a recliner helped. An appointment with his physician is needed.

marsye 06-16-2010 06:11 PM

Thanks for the replies.
This was going on long before his surgery so its not the medicine. Hes just very restless at night when he goes to bed. Hes not sick or anything and is recovering well from surgery.

beachlady 06-16-2010 06:12 PM

Marsye, we aren't going to leave you alone until DH goes to the doctor!!!! Pretty please?

sharon b 06-16-2010 06:14 PM

First thing the doc will tell him no matter what is no more caffeine  Coffee, pop , chocolate, tea it all adds up .

My son was having issues and they told him to eat toast before bed also. He had to do the sleep study for apnea, but he didn't have it .

Also is he doing enough to tire himself out during the day, I know it sounds silly but if I don't move a lot I have a hard time sleeping .

I read the RLS and sleep apnea symptoms to him and he said he doesn't have those. Maybe I just need to whack him with a rubber hammer every night at bedtime.

 Hes says its about time for his yearly physical anyway.

littlehud 06-16-2010 06:21 PM

That's good to hear. Dr may have some simple suggestions to help. It's worth a try.

Granna of 5 06-16-2010 06:33 PM

I have had the sleep problem for about 2 yrs. now. I can be very tired and sleepy and go to bed and I get so restless I have to get up I have gone with out sleep for 2 days and finally have to take a nerve pill to relax myself. Have talked with the Dr. about it she says as long as I can take the nerve pill and sleep it is ok. I have tried Lunesta and that is not good for me> I have a hang over. He may not be able to relax. Just a thought.

Joanie2 06-16-2010 06:38 PM

I have those same feelings sometimes. I call it the heebie jeebies. I've been taking Trazadone and Tylenol PM before bed with a small glass of milk and it seems to help me. Definitely agree that he should visit his doctor.

roseOfsharon 06-16-2010 06:50 PM

A doctors visit is calling... maybe overly tired as well can cause you to not be able to rest. ??

sharon b 06-16-2010 06:50 PM

At least he is willing to see the doc, that is a HUGE step for most men

momymom 06-16-2010 07:01 PM

We call that hammer a BFR

martha jo 06-16-2010 07:04 PM

Sometimes it is low potassium.

raptureready 06-16-2010 07:08 PM

Sounds like RLS to me but it also could be a delayed reaction to the anesthesia, didn't he have surgery not too long ago? Or was it happening before that? Either way, he needs to tell his doctor about it. It could even be nerves and if it's that, it's easily treated--.5mg Lorazapam 30 minutes before bedtime will fix him right up. That's what I used to take when my nerves made my skin feel buggy.

Quilting D 06-16-2010 07:12 PM

Marsye, Sure hope you get some answers and help soon. It sounds miserable for both of you.

PurplePassion 06-16-2010 09:33 PM

Maybe he is just a little jumpy--not knowing what you are going to do next.

Sadiemae 06-16-2010 11:43 PM

You never know. I really didn't show the common symptoms of sleep apnea either. It was a rude awakening when I was in the hospital for the first time with surgery about 7 years ago. With Oxygon on that night my O2 stats were 78. Not good! Doctor sent me immediately for a sleep study. I never do things the normal way--I go into deep sleep within about an hour and I stay there all night. Not normal. My 02 stats for my sleep study went down to the high 50's. Definitely not normal. You just never know what can be going on in your body. It is best to check it out.

tmg 06-17-2010 03:23 AM

He needs to see the doctor. We all know how most men are about that.

dsb38327 06-17-2010 03:33 AM

Try putting (bathing) soap bars under the sheets. Several. Unwrap them, spread them out so the legs will be near them as you move around in your sleep. You can chunk the bars into 1/4ths or use the bar whole. Doesn't matter what brand but the white soaps seem to work better than others. Many who have tried it for restless leg syndrome know when their soaps have been removed. /Regards, Dorothy
( I am on edit now).
I do support a trip to the doctor, might the diverticulosis have any bearing on the symptoms? Doctor has his history and might see something Hubby has forgotten about. /Regards, Dorothy

sewcrafty 06-17-2010 03:34 AM

This may sound funny, but a salad. Lettuce has something in it, can't remember the name of it now (maybe its melatonin (sp)), that assist in sleeping. Also, you might try some decaf. tea like peppermint, ginger, etc. They have some for nighty night.

momymom 06-17-2010 08:16 AM

Hey Marsye, How's Hubs today?? Did he make his dr. appt.???

How about a different bedroom until he calms down? Maybe that'll give him an added incentive to see the doc.

Been doing that!!!! I have to get up in the middle of the night and go to the other bedroom. If we have guest again they will have to get a motel.

earlylace 06-17-2010 03:42 PM

Hey Marsye, how about a big turkey dinner before bed, the tripafone (sp) in turkey makes me sleep!

Woodster 06-17-2010 03:52 PM

Just start off in that room, too.
