Now that we have outlawed smoking, for all intent a d purpose. Let us march forward and ban the use of perfume and Oh Dear Cologne. When you can still smell it 15 minutes after the person passes you, it is time to ban it also.

Most of the restaurants here don't allow smoking. Mainly because if you have a smoking section in the establishment you must have seperate ventilation. So the restaurants don't wnat to go to that expense. What I hate is having to navigate through the cloud of smoke around the doors where everyone is standing outside smoking.

Here in BC, all places where the public might enter are smoke free. People are not to even sit in their car and smoke while on the property of a school. Hospitals are scent-free as are most schools and government offices. The trend is happening.

I really hate getting a hotel room that has been smoked in if we're travelling somewhere that still allows smoking in public buildings. That old, stale smell doesn't go away.

El Paso is a smoke free community - one of a few in Texas. It is really great! ( worked for the American Cancer Society when this happened and was part of this!.

I'm thrilled to read smoking has finally been banned in my home state of Michigan.

The thing about the Indian casinos is that Indian reservations (should I be saying Native American reservations?) are their own governments, so they aren't subject to state laws. So I would imagine that any restaurants on reservations would also be able to allow smoking, if even state laws otherwise banned it.

One thing about casinos with non-smoking areas: I have yet to find one where you can actually GET IN AND OUT without having to pass through a smoking entrance or smoking part of the casino. So, hello! I won't be patronizing those.

I'm currently in California, staying in a hotel that claims to be smoke-free. But they allow smokers to smoke right at the entrance, and a lot of smokers stay here. My stay hasn't been at all smoke-free. The smoke attaches itself to my hair as I enter the hotel, it gloms onto my clothes in the lobby, which reeks from the smoke just outside. And then there are the elevators. Smokers come in from just having smoked and exhale it all over the elevators, and if you need to take one, what can you do? Not to mention that they continue exhaling their smoke into the hallways and their rooms. And the hotel ventilation makes sure it gets whisked all over the building.

And get this: Last night, we had a fire alarm go off at 4:00 in the morning because some jack$$$ of a smoker decided it was okay for him to smoke in his room, and he left his cigarette or cigar (a few people said it was a cigar) on the bed, where of course it caught fire. It was put out quickly, no one was hurt, but IMO a smoke-free hotel should have smoke alarms that catch it when a cig is first lit, not when it becomes a fire.

There was an article recently about making all hotels in southern CA smoke-free. I am AGAINST this. Smokers should have places to stay where they can smoke, for one thing. For another, even those smokers who prefer smoke-free rooms and go outside to smoke should not be contaminating the premises of smoke-free hotel grounds. And, frankly, smoking is an addiction, and addicts are NOT trustworthy about their addictions. People may try to be considerate and responsible, but then you get a rainy or snowy cold night, and they just don't want to go out, and they decide it won't hurt if they sneak one in the bathroom...

Now if I could just find a smoke-free apartment building (and again, I don't think all apt. buildings should be smoke-free - the ones that are should be for people who want and need a smoke-free living area). I've seen a few, but I have yet to see one without butts outside. I don't want someone smoking outside my window - I want to be able to open my window, to sit outside, etc.

I'd love this, as perfumes and colognes bother me, too. Not so much men's shaving creams and colognes, which makes me think it's some ingredient that's in women's scents.

I don't think it will ever be banned unless it's shown to be a serious health hazard to the majority of people, but it sure would be nice if people realized that the correct amount is just enough so someone near you can catch a subtle whiff, not so that everyone around you is subjected to a cloud of it.
