Banned in North Carolina
I enjoy the smoke free atmosphere while I'm out in public but at the same time I greatly dislike the government interference in private business.

I am in California - no smoking indoors anywhere - outdoors - alot of rules about how far away you have to be from the door. I used to smoke but quit about 12-15yrs ago and now I hate the smell - but I do not condemn smokers because it is difficult to give up.

The "nanny state" of California, or at least those who know better (read: smarter and care more) the SF Bay Area, is putting forth the possibility that one can't smoke in their apartment as there is a common ventilation system through which the smoke and smell travel.
If they do that, then they darn well better ban the cooking of horrid-smelling and nauseating foods in those same apartments! There is some really foul stuff in those pots! Smells like something someone scraped off a San Francisco sidewalk and "sauteed" in olive oil. (Apologies to the olives) There are also those who are trying to get smoking banned in your personal car if children are in it. Oh, and this is the same Alice in Wonderland that has legaized "medicinal" marijuana. BTW, I'm not a smoker nor have I ever been. I'm just fed up with the "nanny state" mentality that is pervasive today. "________ should be outlawed!" Well, there are 10 laws engraved on the Supreme Court Building in Washington, D.C. We all know how effective those laws have been. The author had the right idea, but those who read them have always wanted "qualifiers" or "exemptions". |
Smoking is not allowed in TN and I'm so thankful. Now you can actually enjoy the smell and taste of your food!

Same here in KY. You have to remember though that in KY, tobacco is the main crop for MANY farmers so it is a difficult situation. I don't know what they will do. I wonder if there is some resource for the farmers to transition their farms from tobacco to another crop??

Goats are popular, as is farmed-raised fish/shrimp. That might be why catfish is so popular here. There were grants available for cattle, goats and beekeepers. I think the money might have come from the cigarette company settlements. There are still a few farmers raising tobacco but it definitely is not the cash crop it was. BTW. A couple of months ago I stopped in a local Pizza Hut for carry out and noticed ashtrays on tables. I asked if they stilll permitted smoking and was told it was privately owned and was an owner decision to continue to allow smoking. Also, people were helping themselves to the ashtrays so they were having a difficult time keeping them on tables. I wondered if they were being removed by the smokers or nonsmokers. |

Is smoking allowed in restaurants in your state? It hasn't been allowed in Ohio for several years now. I used to barely be able to be in a restaurant before! It is so wonderful NOT to have smoking allowed in restaurants! What about where you live? |
No smoking in MN. Bars, resturants, etc. My DH, an exsmoker is happy....smoke bothers him now....but not when he smoked!

All resturants and bars and public places are smoke free in Michigan but you can still smoke in all of the casinos here.
They banned it last July. Certain cities in WI had already banned it. I worked in a bar, so it was a big thing...The place I work shut down right after that.
Some restaurants allow it - its about 50/50 in this area.
It's banned in Iowa.
I hate to go into a restaurant and smell smoke. They haven[t banned it in MO yet in all places, but there are a few restaurants that are non smoking. I have heard rumors that some city's are going to ban it. but it isn't state wide -yet. Think the restaurants would find more people eating out if it were smoke free.

Banned in OR

They just banned it in Alabama a couple of years ago. I used to smoke and quit years ago. Whenever I walk by someone who smokes, I wonder how I ever did that. Yuck!
The list of states that ban smoking is long......One restaurant we've gone to a lot here in Oregon said their revenues went UP when the ban was enforced....more customers than before!!
As far as I know, smoking was banned in restaurants in MD. At least, I haven't been someplace that allowed it in forever, for which I am very glad. The smell makes me feel nauseous.
Banned in Maine.
Not allowed in any public buildings in WV
sorry double post
Banned in NY...they have also banned it within 500 yards of school and hospital entrances. I wish they would ban it for store entrances, nothing worse then going into or out of Joann's with people standing right at the door with butts hanging from their mouths, so gross!!
Banned in Kansas -- unless you're at the casino
Banned in Virginia.
It is banned in any indoor area in Ontario as well. I love it! I used to hate coming home from a night out and having to have a shower before you could go to bed!

Banned here, some cities are banning smoking outdoors in the CBD as well. no smoking in cars with children. should be no smoking in cars full stop. I cannot car pool because of my asthma. Even if they stop for smokos it comes into the car. I was a mainly social smoker long time ago and appreciate that it is hard to give it up. Herbal teas helped. I stopped drinking all the coffee 10 plus cups a day and it helped as well.
Will never smoke again I prefer to spend my money on materials. Although when I smell a good rolly tobacco a fleeting wisp of I want comes into my brain then goes just as quickly. So I will never be out of danger... lol. |
a few rest. in Ok still allow it.
Banned here in Washington. Wish they would ban it at least a mile from the doors of stores. Sometimes like walking through fog to get inside the store. Walmarts have those cone shape containers about 20 feet from the entrance and those things always have wisps of smoke coming from them, stinks to high heaven. Total yuck!!! My husband and I never smoked and we stuff up being near smokers. Allergic. I feel sorry for little kids of smokers.
Minnesota is smoke free in all public places. The city that I live in also bans smoking on some public streets and smokers have to be 25 feet from the door.
Banned almost everywhere in Queensland,Australia, even in some outdoor shopping malls.(and so it should be.)
