Snow on its way

I'm running around town finishing shopping. I plan to sew tomorrow. Snows will be here tonight. I'll put on a pot of stew or chili in the morning and retire to the sewing room for a day of fun.

Sandra in Minnesota 10-24-2012 09:48 AM

Sounds like a good plan. We are expecting the snow too. Snow is a four-letter word, you know!

QuiltnNan 10-24-2012 09:52 AM

b-r-r-r-r-r i don't like to think of snow before halloween

COYOTEMAGIC 10-24-2012 09:54 AM

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO She said/typed a 4-letter word!!!!!!!

Chasing Hawk 10-24-2012 09:58 AM

We had a dusting the past few days. Less than an inch of that stuff. I love when it snows, I can stand outside (briefly) and is so peaceful you can almost hear the snowflakes landing.

gramajo 10-24-2012 10:02 AM

I'm NOT ready for snow.

It's supposed to be near 80 today. It's 76 on my front porch now. But, temp is dropping into upper 40s/lower 50s tomorrow and at least through the weekend.

Our house is ready...
the hoses are put up
the dog's water buckets are plugged in
the dog's heater (those ones that look like the old radiator heaters but filled with oil)
the trucks have antifreeze and de-icer in the windshield washer container
And the survival packs are stowed away in the trucks.
propane bottles and heaters are in the garage along with a propane stove.
and most important a small generator is on standby

QUILTNMO 10-24-2012 11:08 AM

oh gosh dont want snow yet but have fun sewing!!!!!

Jingle 10-24-2012 01:45 PM

We are having low 80s temps, suppose to cool off Friday, high low 50s. Hard telling if or when we will get snow. Sometimes we just get ice around the end of the year or snow depending on the temps. Snow is much better than ice. I need to try out the 4WD on my new truck. I wouldn't be without it after having two others. If I only use it once it is worth all the payments.

barri1 10-24-2012 03:40 PM

We are way to warm in NY.. Would give anything for a bit of snow.. I presume you are in the mountains.. I've been skiing in CO many times, and it amazes me how efficient they are at cleaning the snow.. CO is my favorite for skiing..

nativetexan 10-24-2012 03:56 PM

hey the snow can skip me and go directly over to you. it's raining nicely right now!! I don't feel like shoveling snow!

AuntieD 10-24-2012 04:35 PM

Enjoy your snow day quilting. Stay warm.

susiequilt 10-24-2012 04:49 PM

Instead of snow we have a hurricane skirting the state!

Yeah but you aren't going to get it nearly as bad as the northeast. They're talking "Storm of the Century" status if things come together just right.

Neesie 10-24-2012 05:57 PM

It's not quite 9 PM here and 77 degrees. Tonight's low is expected to be 66. High tomorrow is expected to be 84.

kathdavis 10-24-2012 07:02 PM

It is 70 degrees right now, but temperatures are dropping 30 degrees here tomorrow, but no snow luckily. I would love to be able to sew all day long tomorrow, though.

Rita's mom 10-24-2012 08:36 PM

Sounds like a good plan!!! It is 10:30 here and we have about 2" on the grass right now. I heard on the news you are getting it down your way too. I am putting the crock pot on in the morning, finishing my homework for tax class, and then hopefully a nice quiet day of quilting! :)

barri1 10-25-2012 02:43 AM

You guys are way too lucky having snow.. I really could use a major one..
I guess you can tell I love it..

nancyw 10-25-2012 03:22 AM

We'll be heading to Aurora CO for Christmas with our DS and 2 DGDs. Hope there is lots of snow. We both love snow DH having been raised in upstate NY and me having spent a good part of my youth in Alaska. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

HOLY COW! I live in Michigan and it is still 75 degrees out there today. I still have lawn furniture sitting outside and a TON of plants on the porch., hoses on the ground (disconnected though). Survival Packs??? Guess I know what I am doing on my day off.
Didn't think that the Pacific Northwest gets weather that you had to prepare for...thought it was pretty temperate---unless you are in Canada.
You are making me feel guilty!

sailsablazin 10-25-2012 05:06 AM

When do I ever get to enjoy a "day of quilting?" With teenagers, there is always something to do along with that part-time job (soccer game tonight and TaeKwonDo). I suspect that the neighbors bring their laundry over during the night...has to be!

Oh, the weather people get so excited when bad weather is maybe coming! May they all be disappointed!

helenquilt 10-25-2012 06:37 AM

Where are your Quilting supplies???????????

AllAboutScraps 10-25-2012 06:46 AM

AS a person who lives on the border of CT in MA, I am not anticipating "the storm of the century". The weather forecasters LIVE to cause panic in people over things that MOST of the time don't happen. It amazes me that there is this industry where they can be wrong MORE than half the time and still have a job!

That said......although I don't panic about it - the generator is fueled up and tested, plenty of wood for the furnace, plenty of food in the freezer, and the animals all have their appointed places prepared. No reason not to be prepared for Mother Nature to have a hissy fit.

Bring it on!

Hang on....I heard this morning that Storm "Sandy" might turn into a nor-eastern. Is that the right word? A cold storm.

AllAboutScraps 10-25-2012 06:59 AM

nor'easter - that's right. The operative word is MIGHT

Quilterlois: I am so glad you got the snow on the eastern side of the state: Over here in western side : we only got frost !LOL ... I'll take that ! LOL
Called my daughter who lives over on that side and she said it was snowing too, a friend who lives over there called me as well to tell me it was snowing and she was just outside taking pictures of it as she never knew she could take pictures of the snow (amazing what happens when one googles/bings things eh LOL)...
Bless you all's pee picking hearts that you all got SNOW... <GRIN> and I didn't <GRIN>

cherrio 10-25-2012 07:39 AM

yep, snow is possible here by the weekend too but only because of the "perfect storm" brewing off the east coast now. prayers for the east coast, jamaica and cuba who it looks like will see 100 mph winds.

well according to the news MrsM if you are still in NY; you should hold onto your hat!

Mona Marie 10-25-2012 08:09 AM

that white stuff is here also

BMP 10-25-2012 08:16 AM

Tou all have me wondering now , I am in NY and havent paid any attention to the weather in days.....

jbj137 10-25-2012 08:21 AM

Just read that Hurricane Sandy may hit just before Halloween.
If she get a blast of cold air from Canada she will hit around
Delaware and everyone above on the North East coast will
get SNOW.

Glad I am in the South.

J J

Grandma Peg 10-25-2012 08:25 AM

We are having abnormally high temps the last two days but by the weekend in the 40's. Hope you don't get hit too hard, it might be a longgg winter.

BMP 10-25-2012 09:38 AM

I just watched the WC and I didnt hear anything about SNOW for us but they did say extremley high winds and millions will be without power....the storm surge will be another concern for those on the coast. I am glad we are inland but the power outages have me concerned especially with the temps dropping like they are predicting !

Dakota Girl 10-25-2012 09:54 AM

Here in Maryland, we are doing the same thing, but we are preparing for Hurricane Sandy. It is down rigging week end
here in Chestertown, big festival planned. We are expecting many of the very old ships from around the world here in port.
Last year we had gale force winds that canceled part of it, including the Parade of Ships. Please pray for our power
grids and trees.

DonnaC 10-25-2012 10:29 AM

PLEASE do not say the "S" word!!!! Once it starts coming it doesn't stop!!!

Pam Riggs 10-25-2012 11:36 AM

It is 83 here in KY today but tomorrow rain is coming in and night temps are going down in the 30s. Be safe everyone.

MimiBug123 10-25-2012 03:05 PM

It's in the mid 80s here. The weather has to stay good for the Georgia-Florida game on Saturday!!! No rain, please!

Jan in VA 10-25-2012 05:16 PM

Barri1, you'd best batten down the hatches as the east coast (north of maryland) is expected to get a "Franken-storm" starting later this weekend and lasting for days, well into next week. This *could* be pretty serious. Hurricane, along with eastern moving storm, along with cold front from Canada, along with full moon affecting tides to create the perfect storm scenario. Best for all of us to follow the weather channel regularly for the next 72 hours.
