They are predicting 12-20 inches of snow for northeast Missouri with 1/2 to 1 inch of ice first. Can't wait! Actually I could wait. DH is in Germany all week, so I don't think I'll be venturing out any time soon. I did make a fabric run yesterday to be sure I didn't run out of projects to complete. haha (got food too)

sewwhat85 01-31-2011 09:47 AM

and i have to be at work at 3 bummer

LoisN 01-31-2011 09:48 AM

Drive carefully. It's slick here already.

Barbm 01-31-2011 09:49 AM

waiting for them to decide what we are going to get and when. Busy week at work, I'm trying to jam as much in today in preparation for it.

Hope everyone can stay in and be safe and warm. Those who must travel, be extra careful!

clem55 01-31-2011 09:54 AM

My niece over in Il., close to St.Louis is getting the ice right now, said it is coming down fast. Hope all of you in the path are prepared for the bad stuff. Here in Ky. we are getting a light rain, and "so far: not expecting anything bad. , unless the Northern part of state. Sure hope they are right this time!! Stay safe!!

Japonica 01-31-2011 09:55 AM

So glad I can stay home now. I use to travel in that stuff all the time. Now one snowflake, I'm in crocheting, quilting or crafting something!!!!!

Tink's Mom 01-31-2011 09:58 AM

just back from getting food...and some extra piddle pads for Tink...I would never find her in the drifts...
The weatherman says that we will be getting at least 18". They are talking about it being worse than the blizzard of '67. That was really bad and shut down the city for nearly a week. I was a kid, but...the pictures that M&D have have the snowup to the top of the fence. I was sitting on the top bar of the swingset and my feet were on the snow....

buslady 01-31-2011 12:44 PM

As long as everyone is safe, I actually look forward to this storm, if we get it. I have to work and if it gets really bad we will get to stay home. And I will get to sew all day!! Do you blame me?

susie0808 01-31-2011 01:08 PM

Yes, hope everyone stays safe. Looks like only 2-6 inches. But alot of ice coming. It's going to be messy. I'm staying in and sew sew sew!

katyquilter 01-31-2011 01:19 PM

I know how you feel. I live in SW Missouri and they are saying 6 to 12 inches after the ice. I'm planning on staying home from work tomorrow and possibly Wednesday. I have lots of projects planned. :D :D :D

chickadeee55 01-31-2011 01:57 PM

Yeah, I know it has been snowing all day here, but it won't be as bad as some of the other states.

I vote for winter to be over!

Jennifer22206 01-31-2011 01:58 PM

*groan* not again.. I'm so sick of snow and ice

nativetexan 01-31-2011 01:59 PM

I"m in Colorado and just went to the library, post office and pharmacy driving in 2nd gear!

BMP 01-31-2011 02:27 PM

That's funny, because I always used to make a milk and bread run before a storm, but now I check out my fabric first. Stay warm

Jory 01-31-2011 02:32 PM

We've had 60" of snow so far this year in New England. . .our yearly average is 68". And we're supposed to get between 15" to 2 feet from this one!! It's ridiculous how much snow there is!!!!

Jory

dgsmom 01-31-2011 02:40 PM

they say we can also get up to 20" i know we need the moisture but i would be more happier if it was rain not snow

Jory 01-31-2011 02:49 PM

Sara Lee,

My brother lives in Okmulgee: I think he's going to get to share in my misery!!

MCH 01-31-2011 04:06 PM

My brother and his family live in St. Louis. We've been texting this afternoon, letting me know when everyone is home safe. I'm waiting for the text that my SIL is home safe.

They've put tarps on the family cars that sit outside so as to protect them from the ice.

Here's the "rest of the story" --

I got a phone call @ 7:30 AM today from my dear friend who lives in Kankakee, IL, about an hour south of Chicago. "There's a major storm coming our way and I don't think I should wait until Wednesday to bring Mikey to you. We need to get out today. I'm leaving Midway this afternoon and landing in San Jose this evening. I'll be there until next Monday."

Details are: she is my college roomie from the mid-60's, she owns a female miniature Australian shepherd female that had puppies in November. Mikey is one of the puppies.
My "roomie" is desperately looking forward to spending a week in the warm California sun.

It's going to be a fun week! Temperatures here (San Francisco Bay area) are forecast to be in the low 60's all week with clear skies.

Now, you know the "rest of the story" -- and why she and I have been friends for more than 40 years. She has lived all her life in Illinois while I've gone from NY => Chicago=> CA. It's a friendship that "took". I'm very blessed...the husbands and the kids are friends, too!

Jingle 01-31-2011 04:13 PM

We are getting it also and I have lots of fabrics and food. Since I retired I stay home everyday but Friday, nothing new to me. I'm getting ready to quilt another quilt.

One of my college roommates _younger than me_ got caught in that '67 snow and had to spend the night at her highschool. Not as much fun as she expected it to be. She had great stories to tell of people helping each other and making the best of the situation. Her father was trying to drive home and got as far as a farmhouse out in the country which was also a day-care center. He helped with the babies and toddlers for 2 days. The owner was grateful for his help and he was grateful to leave!

mamaw 01-31-2011 05:20 PM

Did errands today, so went and got groceries also. Not that I can't go out; but who wants to, when we can stay home where it is warm and cozy in some comfy sweatpants.

tomilu 01-31-2011 05:23 PM

We are stocked up and ready to hole up. We are only supposed to get 6" of snow, but wind chills are going to be brutal; will probably close schools due to wind chill factor. Also have puppy pads for little dogs and am feeding 5 feral cats. What a great time to sew.

Expecting lots of snow here near Detroit too. Oh, joy! It was kinda fun when my kids were little, but now I just hate driving in it!!!  Maybe I'll just hitch a ride to work with DH in his 4WD tomorrow.

Stay in and stay warm.

tomilu 02-01-2011 05:49 AM

OK folks, it is -17 windchill here now with snow and blowing snow all over the place. We don't have a whiteout yet.
I look outside more than normal to see if any animals need rescuing. The wind blew something into the side of the van last night.
I am so glad I'm retired and don't have to go to work.

Shirleyg 02-01-2011 05:54 AM

I will be think and praying for all you ladies in this bad weather. I an on the coast in Texas and we don't experience near what you all do. We are having record low temps for the rest of the week with possibility of snow. So all of you please stay warm and safe.

AliceQ 02-01-2011 06:05 AM

One thing I love about my job...SNOW DAYS! I work at a nearby high school and today all the schools in our area are closed because of the weather! Wouldn't be surprised if we are tomorrow also.
I'm working on organizing a sewing/scrapbooking room so this gives me a full day to do that! No hubby around! Poor guy...his work never closes!

I certainly can't blame you! I would enjoy it too! Stay safe and warm and enjoy your time at home. Happy sewing!

LindaR 02-01-2011 07:12 AM

it has arrived in Michigan...was going to painting class, no way 20 minute drive and I'm not that brave. LOL

tomilu 02-01-2011 07:39 AM

It's 3 here with windchill of -28 and almost a whiteout. I'm eating a bacon, egg, cheese sandwich and glancing out the window.

sounds like a winner

redvette54 02-01-2011 07:54 AM

Yesterday, on the way home from work, I went to get gas and to the grocery store. What a madhouse. I'm off work today and Weds. so I don't have to leave. Last night we got about an inch and the big snow is coming tonight. Since hubby works as a county plow driver, I'll be on my own. Today, I'm going to get gas for the generator and some gallons of water, just in case we lose power. Looks like I'll be sewing and watching it snow.

Couldn't help but notice you put your fabric before your food. You ARE a true-blue quilter!! Stay safe, stay warm, and quilt to your heart's content. Is it spring yet??? NOT  I am so ready for spring. I start freezing at 50 degrees. I'm feeling your pain with this ice and snow. Hope the sun shines soon for you. (((hugs)))

iwillquilt 02-01-2011 10:05 AM

I did the same thing. And the lady at the wal-mart fabric area said she didn't understand people buying material before the storm. I told her I didn't want to be stuck at home with nothing to work on. She was much happier by the time I left and she had made a big sale. And the blizzard is here and I am online instead of quilting. LOL!

nonnaof5 02-01-2011 11:51 AM

Tink is adorable, I have a 2lb yorkie and 2 doxies and I so wish they would use "piddle pads" They are soooo bad when the weather gets cold.

scrappylady 02-01-2011 02:03 PM

Right now the snow and wind are working overtime here.
I live near Ft. Wood, Mo just off I-44 and it is slick here . Been out 3 times to check on my 28 year old horse who, lives about 2 miles from us. She has been smart enough to stay under the leanto and not get out in the snow. Don't know if we will be able to get there very easliy tomorrow. Our Honda CR-V is good but I do not know if it that good after we get the rest of the snow. We are at approx. 4-5 of snow with sleet under the snow. I think the weather man said more coming next Saturday too :-(

CarolLady 02-01-2011 02:06 PM

live north of Columbia MO and have heard I-70 is closed from St Louis to Kansas City!!! \

I remember that storm too. We were all so happy to be out of school for a few days. LOL
