Many parts of the country have had frigid temps since before Christmas and North Carolina was no exception. It snowed 15 inches before Christmas and we have had several 2" or less snows since then combined with single digits at night. The Cane River is frozen over in spots with a dusting of snow on top of the ice.

BRR is right!

littlehud 01-12-2010 04:24 PM

Looks like us in Iowa right now. Maybe with the warm up some of it will melt before we get the next snow.

BKinCO 01-12-2010 04:27 PM

Where are you in NC? I grew up there, but in Greensboro...I'm guessing you're in the mountains????

PS, your dog looks mighty happy in the snow :)

sewnsewer2 01-12-2010 04:32 PM

Beautiful pics but toooo cold for me!

Brrr - My granddaughter got caught in this mess. She went home to NC with a friend from college to visit and before she could get back the snow came in (they live on a country road). They finally got the snow plow down their road and she is safe and sound. I used to live in Illinois and I sure don't envy you the snow. It's pretty but sometimes hard to live with. :-)

wvdek 01-12-2010 04:39 PM

Looks like where we are (in hiding, of course!).

Love the river scene. Our river looks pretty much the same only a lot higher than usual.

Lady Tapioca 01-12-2010 05:05 PM

How did the dog like the snow?

vicki reno 01-12-2010 05:07 PM

We are so fortunate to live on a road that is plowed quite a lot. I know some of my guild members do not have 4 wheel drive and can only get out when they go somewhere in hubby's truck!

vicki reno 01-12-2010 05:33 PM

Sadie is a big yellow lab that is very spoiled. She hangs out in front of the heater and acts like she is freezing, but had a great time in the snow, even though I was freezing! It was so cold and she was running in and out of the creek like it was summer!

shaverg 01-12-2010 05:57 PM

Vicki, where are you in NC. That is my home state. I am hoping to get my husband to go back there for retirement in a few years. Hopefully somewhere in the mountains.

Oklahoma Suzie 01-12-2010 06:00 PM

nice.

Lady Tapioca 01-12-2010 06:03 PM

Sadie is gorgeous and must be a blast to watch.
I must say, you live in a beautiful place.

shaverg 01-12-2010 11:40 PM

I was born and raised in South Louisiana and have lived in NC for over 20 years, just not in the mountains. We love it here too. The people are very warm and friendly and the town that I live closest to has 2 quilt shops and a great guild. We couldn't have picked a better place!

barnbum 01-13-2010 04:23 AM

I love the third picture!! So pretty!!

donna873 01-13-2010 04:24 AM

Oh my gosh, so pretty.. I am hoping we get some in SE MO.

mysacrifice 01-13-2010 07:19 AM

Those are some beautiful pictures! So pretty! It looks like you live on a hill. It's hard living on a hill in that type of weather. I live on a mountain and coming down it during bad weather is horrible! Thanks for sharing.

cminor 01-13-2010 07:31 AM

I love the river picture!

dglvr 01-13-2010 07:55 AM

OH my goodness. I delt with that here last year but none here now and I want to keep it that way so make sure you don't send that to Washington. Love your doggy

Bevanger 01-13-2010 08:08 AM

oh my heavens. *shivers*

vicki reno 01-13-2010 10:05 AM

The DOT does a great job of keeping the road clear so we have no problems going to town in my SUV. It has all wheel drive so all 4 wheels pull all the time, which gives you better traction even in the rain and is great in the snow.

It made it up to 50 degrees today and I am so glad to see the sun! There is rain in the forecast by Saturday, which is okay as long as it doesn't turn to freezing rain!

Pineapple Princess 01-13-2010 10:15 AM

That's so beautiful! Thanks for sharing the pictures!

cumberlandquiltchick 01-13-2010 10:23 AM

So idealic, thank you for sharing! I'm from Bogalusa, LA.! I have looked at homes in Sylva area, I love NC. Is that river near your house? so pretty! Your pictures could be postcards. I'm so happy that you have founds your little piece of heaven on earth and are happy. Sounds like you really did find the perfect place to retire. God Bless.

vicki reno 01-13-2010 12:40 PM

I grew up in LA, just west of New Orleans and really love NC. If I wasn't living here, it would be East Texas or North La for sure, but not South La. Too hot, and too flat!

misoop 01-14-2010 06:43 AM

I love NC.....so beautiful!! Thought I'd like to live there, but now I don't know, :)

Feathers 01-14-2010 07:19 AM

Your pictures are GORGEOUS! I love the one of Icy River and the dog playing in the snow is darling. Don't kill yourself shoveling all that beautiful white stuff! Thanks for sharing.

Debbie1 01-14-2010 08:36 AM

Greendragon6889 01-14-2010 10:37 AM

marla 01-14-2010 01:32 PM

THE 3RD PIC WOULD MAKE A WONDERFUL WALL QUILT.
OUR LAKE WAS FROZEN THE OTHER DAY, UNTIL 9 AM. I AM SO GLAD IT'S OVER. HOPEFULLY NEVER AGAIN.

vicki reno 01-14-2010 02:42 PM

My sister was saying the same thing about the photos. She said that she saw several landscape quilts in the photos.

amma 01-15-2010 02:17 AM

Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures with us :D:D:D

brendadawg 01-15-2010 08:31 AM

sdeaaz 01-15-2010 08:33 AM

For the most part, I love the weather here. My neighbor says he can't ever remember such a big snow fall and he grew up hee, in this very house. I like the 4 in or so that melts after a few days!
