mamatobugboo 06-28-2009 06:37 AM

I think the contents of your bedside table tell alot about who you are - so want to reveal the contents in yours?!

I'll start....

Top drawer:
hand lotion (with gloves, gets dry up here in MN in the winter)
lip stuff
fabric and quilting catalog and magazine
Bible
non-fiction book about King Henry VIII's children
playing cards, old picture of my daughter, pens, pencils, fingernail files, filament tape, massage lotion and foot cream

Middle Drawer:
Sense and Sensibility
To Live is Christ
2 devotional books
notebook
strawberry shortcake doll
lego piece
box of condoms (don't laugh - gag gift from a bday party we attended, had to stash them there so the kids wouldn't see the box and ask what they were!)

Bottom Drawer:
silk longjohns, regular longjohns
waterproof socks
secret stash of girl scout cookies - so secret that I forgot they were there until I opened the drawer to see what was in it!!

So, that's my life - I love to read in bed, drool over my quilt magazines, spend quiet time with God, my kids are obviously in bed with us sometimes, i don't like dry hands, feet or lips, I live in a cold climate, i have a husband who will eat ALL the girl scout cookies in one sitting if I don't hide them, and I have NO IDEA why there is filament tape in my bedside table!

What about you??

beachlady 06-28-2009 07:05 AM

Top drawer has nighttime pillbox, tums, other meds not taken daily. (no condoms), book lites, plumice stone for feet, glasses, remote, flashlight, and junk
2nd draw - lots of diofferent lotions etc
3rd drawer - panties I am saving for something, but don't know what
side cabinet - believe it or not - Green Stamp Books that were my Moms - think there is a store somewhere in the mid-west and plan on going some day LOL

tlrnhi 06-28-2009 07:11 AM

Hmm....let's see...
On the top is my lamp, a bunch of reciept, my Rosary and a pair of earrings and the battery alarm clock.
In the top drawer is a bunch of pictures that need to be put in the album that is in there with them.
Bottom drawer has my night shirts and my "raggedy" nightgown. Hubby calls it raggedy, but it's comfy.

Mplsgirl 06-28-2009 07:20 AM

I just have a table. Lamp, alarm clock (I have forgotten how to set it now that I'm retired), jar of hard candies, 1-1/2 foot high stack of magazines, and a cat toy.

Mplsgirl 06-28-2009 07:39 AM

Just checked my nite table out of curiosity. I also have a candle and 2 cookbooks. I need to clean this puppy off!!! Re the cookbooks, I read them like novels. Cover to cover. I am a lousy cook, but I have a collection of books that would knock your sox off! My DH and I were watching Jeopardy one time and I got EVERY question right in the cooking category. My DH said, "If you're so good at this, why don't I see your a** in the kitchen more often?" Told him I beentheredonethat in the first marriage.

Barbm 06-28-2009 08:01 AM

I have an antique dressing table next to my side of the bed. Top- lamp, alarm clock, phone, hair dryer, curling iron, assorted jewelry, nail polish and perfume, hair pick, hair brush, hair ties. top left drawer- make up for really needing to make an impression- cover up, eye shadow, foundation, blush (everyday is just moisturizer and mascara), lip stick, bottom left- boxes of jewelry I have for "last minute" gifts- been known to raid stash for something new for me. Top right- creams, lotions, etc. foot care, etc., bottom right- more hair ties, curlers, etc.

Don't read at bedtime, I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. If I read, I stay in my sewing room, need to be upright or the bed calls my name.

Mousie 06-28-2009 08:08 AM

no drawers
I have a few books, some lotion, some prescription cream, to apply at night...to ears, lol! (big ears,* need lots of lotion)
antacid/gas tablets, and i put my glasses there.

Marcia 06-28-2009 08:51 AM

Steph---Interesting thread. I guess you CAN learn a lot about a person from their bedside table. (makes you wonder why there are some people who want to look in others' medicine cabinets  )

On top of my bedside table I have a lamp, a clock, a phone and a box of tissues.

In the top drawer I have my rosary, lip balm, several hand and foot creams, cuticle oil, socks, 3 books, 2 book lights, a flashlight, lots of bookmarks, pencils and a coaster.

In the second drawer I have my Sudoku stash-I work several puzzles every day. I even like the ones that are variations of the original 9 patch puzzle.

In the third drawer I have 2 books (Firefly Lane and A Grandma is a Gift from God), a Prevention magazine, my cell phone charger, my Ipod and ear phones.

In the fourth drawer I have a bag with old eye glasses (I keep meaning to take them somewhere and donate them)

I work a Sudoku and then read a little every night before I fall asleep. I guess my bedside table says I am a pretty dull person.

Marcia I do sudoku too - have you ever gone to websudoku.com. One more reason to get on the computer, like we need one.

Up North 06-28-2009 08:58 AM

Hmm had to go look. On top is a lamp, not plugged in Lavender pillow mist, a large pitcher and bowl full of reciepts. Botton shelf a wooden box full of baseball cards, a roll of ribbon (?) a few craft odds and ends papers (junk) and a lot of dust!

Darlene 06-28-2009 09:02 AM

I have a table with a lamp, clock, angel statue and an old porcelain box and a box of tissues.

Yes, I have worked puzzles there too. But, I will admit that I am more of a pencil and paper girl, so I prefer my page-a-day calendar puzzle or my books.

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 06-28-2009 10:07 AM

Right NOW, I don't even have my night tables in my room, since I'm moving in 2 days, heck my bed is upright in the living room, lol!
However, until yesterday, I had a lamp, a box of kleenex and a few quilting and wedding magazines on the top; bottom drawer had socks, middle drawer had underpants, and top drawer had bras. No condoms, (I'm allergic, ya what a stupid allergy!) but there were a couple of other things I had to quickly hide since my parents were over helping me pack up my house

amma 06-28-2009 10:32 AM

No end tables....but a funny story....was helping friends move, we picked up the bookcase headboard and a door opened. I went to shut it and got a glimpse inside     I made the other two guys leave the room and had the owners   come in and empty it in privacy....It happened in 1985 but I still tease them about it

Mplsgirl 06-28-2009 10:35 AM

Got a fairly good idea of what the last 2 posts were about. I hope I don't die suddenly before I get to "clean up" things. teehee

I came in with a BANG and will be buying nightstands so I can go out with a BANG too.....
I love shocking my kids....may even place things in there JUST for a shock factor to make them laugh when I am gone.......

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 06-28-2009 10:48 AM

Funny story. When I was a kid, my parents used to keep envelopes with photos in them (before digital) in their night tables, and one day I was going through the photos, looking for something. I came across a g-string, but I had NO idea what it was, I asked my mum if it was a "one boob bra". Her answer was 'GET OUT OF THERE!!!!'
Years later I figured out what it was and was totally grossed out!

Ducky 06-28-2009 10:59 AM

Amma, what a great idea. Get ridiculous things to shock and embarrass the kids...."Eeeeewwwww, Mom's arent' supposed to know about this stuff!"

My night stand is an avalanche zone right now with two rosaries, books and meditation cds, kleenex, alarm clock, lotions, cd player, embroidery floss in an envelope and lots of dust. Inside I did an archaeological dig, because it has been so long since I've opened the drawers. So long that I found hair removal strips for my legs that I purchased....well, many, many years ago. Good Lord, how many bottles of lotion do I need? Evidentally a lot. Batteries, Love and Logic tapes (yes, tapes) and workbook. Journal in which I wrote for about a month then forgot about it. A Marriage Encounter journal and book. More lotion???? Anyone need lotion? Pens and several pencils, and colored markers. A bookmark my youngest made back in 1987 with his school picture laminated in it.

Obviously, I'm a pack rat. Could be why I'll never live long enough to use all the fabric I have stashed.

BellaBoo 06-28-2009 10:59 AM

DH and I have matching night stands. No drawer in them. We each have a lamp. DH has a clock on his side and I have a small box of tissues. That's all. Much faster to dust with less stuff on the tables. I'm into fast and easy for all housework.

mamatobugboo 06-28-2009 02:57 PM

wow everyone!! some of us have some GREAT stuff in our tables!! We have 2 junk drawers in our kitchen (one for him and one for the kids) and the DH asked why not one for me - I said my bedside table WAS my junk drawer!

so how many have now cleaned OUT their bedside tables since you've spent some time going through it!?

QuiltyLisa 06-28-2009 03:31 PM

on top I have a lamp, alarm clock and a small box of tissues.
Top drawer is 3 boxes of Aluna (herbal night time sleepy med) the TV remote, and the AC remote.
On the bottom shelf is 5 paperbacks and a stack of quilty Mags.

I dont have anything really girly on the bedside table. I have a Antique Vanity for all the lotions and potions as my DH says.

mountain-moma 06-28-2009 04:40 PM

Have a lamp on top and alarm clock picture of my son and girlfriend,Hubby side a lamp a picture of grand-daughter no drawers

jbsstrawberry 06-28-2009 05:35 PM

I've known about the allergy for a long time, I used to get bad reactions at the dentist, we weren't sure if it was maybe a reaction to the injections but it was the latex.
At work I have to have different gloves than the guys, and a different respirator mask made of nitrile or silicone.

Me either Loretta!:)It would be just another place to clean and declutter for me...so, I do the hiding method...a plastic container under my side of the bed..which is full of inspirational catalogs, mags (quilting-that is a given!)and color books. Then I always have something to read or reread...:)Skeat

k3n 06-30-2009 07:08 AM

Well I don't have a bedside table - wardrobe my side! But DH's side has a chest of drawers with our underwear in - one drawer each. Mine also has my Granny's bible. On top are a few paperbacks, lamp, clock and a papier mache box with my jewellery in that Joey made me at school, plus some clay models ditto and a pic of Lily in a frame that SHE made at school!

Mplsgirl 06-30-2009 07:24 AM

It's amazing we all have to have immediate access to our reading material! BTW Just wanted to pass on something I heard: Chocolate is God's way of apologizing for okra. teehee

Ninnie 06-30-2009 08:23 AM

OK, here goes!

Top: white lamp with red shade (DH bought for me years ago), phone
1st drawer: all my hair thingies, barrettes, pontytail holders etc. Tums, icyhot for my bad back, book lite, books, bible, rosary that belonged to my grandmother, the box that my engagement ring and wedding band came in many years ago, candles, flashlight, loose change, litle cars and trucks that belong to my son when he was little, scissors, and I don't know what else.
2nd drawer nighties, mostly worn and comfortable!
3rd drawer socks! undies bras! and a pair of hose that haven't been worn for 5 yrs.

sandpat 07-01-2009 07:16 PM

I can't see whats in mine through the thick layer of dust on top and the army of dust bunnies that guard the drawers.....although I have balanced a book by David Baldachi on the top of all that so I can read before I go to sleep.

ThuviaPt5 07-02-2009 09:31 AM

On top I have quilts waiting to be gifted(it is down to only 4 now). A tin with hair thingies in it, and a small stack of tissues. Open the doors and you find quilting and craft books of an assorted nature. The headboard of my bed is a whole other story, though.

Aileen 07-02-2009 11:57 AM

LOL Yes, our drawers (not just your bedroom nightstand) tell a lot about us. We had a radio station here in N. Calif that used to have a contest on your kitchen junk drawer. What a hoot that was to listen to what people had in them! Of course it was nice if you had named off the object that the DJ was looking for, then you got that day's prize.

JudeWill 07-02-2009 12:25 PM

Well, the drawers hold just underwear & socks, tho I think there might be some old letters in one and cassett tapes to help you lose weight--no, they didn't work. On top is a lamp, a book I've finished, one I'm reading, a couple of Guidepost magazines I've finished, phone, nail clips, foot cream, callous remover, and eye drops. I have a terrible time keeping that thing cleared off. :D

AnnaK 07-02-2009 04:05 PM

On the top: Books, books, books and more books. Small jewelry box, lip gloss, eye drops, hand lotion and tissue.

Top drawer: 7x magnification mirror, eyebrow tweezers, candles, matches, flashlight

Bottom drawer: Hymnbook, another jewelry box,

tuesy 07-02-2009 05:38 PM

Hmm, lets see.. on top is a lamp, clock radio, picture of my DH, a box that I keep cards in (from Hallmark), my arm wrist guard and a heart shaped locket (hanging from the lamp)..and some dust.. (yes I need to get up there and dust)
Inside the top drawer are things that my kids have made me..
Middle drawer has little outfits from my eldest kids..
lower drawer has a 3 ring binder full of love letters from my DH that he wrote me when we were dating.

DebJ 07-03-2009 07:53 AM

1 Attachment(s)
My bedside table is small, only has room for my lamp, a personal CD player, coaster sitting in front of player & at the end of the stack of books, book light lying on top of the CD player, stack of books in front of lamp. A shelf below the one drawer, where it is 2 rows deep with books.

Now for the contents of the drawer: there are 4 pens (2 work, I think). But one is a pink ribbon pen and that is why I keep it. A deck of cards, tissues, and a small book by Jay Alan Sekulow titled Knowing Your Rights. Also 6 booklets from Precept Ministries International, The Inductive Bible Study People. A stenographer tablet/journal. I must have slight desire to journal occasionally or someone in my family thinks I should because I found, a blank journal that has a quilt print cover, a snap closure, hardback blank journal, plus 2 other journals slightly started one in 1996 & 2001. Reading back was kind of fun/interesting. Also there was a notepad and the instruction booklet that came with the CD player and a tiny miniature of a FedEx box that once had a single piece of gum. Well that is the bed side table but my bookcase headboard is another whole story.

I have my Bible, daily devotions and other book here. Also book behind those doors. And as you see a sm. bell collection plus some miniature furniture.
