I was just wondering if anyone sews less during the spring/summer when its warmer and you can get out more??
I know I wont be sitting at the machine as much as I do when its cold and snowy out.

DebraK 01-23-2011 05:48 PM

maybe a little less in summer for me.

Colorful Quilter 01-23-2011 05:55 PM

Since I am NOT an outdoor person, the seasons don't stop me from sewing, My crafts have always been my sanity!!

sewwhat85 01-23-2011 05:56 PM

maybe a little less we will see

erstan947 01-23-2011 06:02 PM

No difference for me either:)

amma 01-23-2011 06:23 PM

I sew about the same amount of time, some times even more as I am not so achy :D:D:D

sandyo 01-23-2011 06:28 PM

I sew less but do take my machine out on the deck at times. It is under out big maple tree.

Pat P 01-23-2011 06:28 PM

exactly!

Jennifer22206 01-23-2011 06:37 PM

no difference to me. I usually quilt at night. :D

I actually have more time in the summer to sew since I'm a teacher.

pocoellie 01-23-2011 06:42 PM

I actually end up sewing more during the summer, because I don't have to stay in the house and tend the fire, and I go down to my sewing room a lot earlier, because it's not so frigging cold outside, even though I do leave the heater on low at night during the winter.

Ditto!

sewcrafty 01-23-2011 06:56 PM

I may not do machining, but applique instead.

kathdavis 01-23-2011 07:04 PM

I sew more in the summer, since I'm out of school then.

LovinMySoldier 01-23-2011 07:09 PM

I love to garden and play outside! Sewing goes way down in the summer

quiltgrammyt2 01-23-2011 07:14 PM

In the Spring I may sew less because I don't mind being outside working in the flower beds, but in the Summer when it gets hot I will be in the A.C for sure.

Ditto for me too..:)

littlehud 01-23-2011 07:55 PM

I sew a lot any time of the year. It was so hot here last year that it was best to stay inside and sew.

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 01-23-2011 08:02 PM

I sew the same year round. Our temperatures here are warmer during the summer but I have a fan in my sewing room. If it gets too hot in the house then the A/C goes on. I don't hand quilt so I don't have a warm quilt sitting on my lap. I send my quilts out to be quilted by a LA.

sandpat 01-24-2011 06:38 AM

It probably works out to about the same. I don't quilt as much in Spring and Fall...but when the outside temp hits the 90's and above and the humidity is 100%....I'm inside sewing or reading.

kacy 01-24-2011 06:49 AM

I take my sewing machine out to the picnic table and sew away. We live on a lake in the summer so I get to watch all the activity on the lake too.

Ditter43 01-24-2011 06:55 AM

I used to spend a lot of time outside, gardening and doing lawn work in warm weather.
My back has gotten so bad I don't do much of that anymore. We are planning a fair sized garden this year and have been building a large greenhouse. My DH will be doing all the intensive work for the first time. I will be doing a lot of canning.
I will be sewing about the same as I do now.I have several projects planned for this year. :D

lyndad 01-24-2011 08:48 AM

I sew about the same amount of time in the summer, maybe a little less when I have to mow, but since I work full time, my time is limited all year.

cherrio 01-24-2011 09:35 AM

I crochet outside on the porch when I'm not gardening. I sew smaller things in spring/summer and bigger/quilts when I am avoiding raking and shoveling!

ginnie6 01-24-2011 10:35 AM

homeschool mom here so I sew more int he summer! Don't have to teach the kids and I just move a machine in front of the back window, open it and they can play in the pool. I'm a few steps away if needed and the youngest wears a life jacket.

pumpkinpatchquilter 01-24-2011 10:46 AM

I do sew a little less in the summer time, mostly because we don't have air conditioning and it just gets too darn hot to mess with anything that involves and iron! ;)

duckie 01-24-2011 01:04 PM

So do I and mow all the lawn and edges of the fields. Between that and grandkids' ball games I'm outside.
Oh, plus it's light outside so much longer.

mhansen6 01-24-2011 01:25 PM

A lot less for me. When the sun comes out the convertible comes out and we take road trips almost every weekend. We really enjoy our weekend trips.

Tussymussy 01-24-2011 01:32 PM

As I hand quilt, I tend to peice my quilts in the summer and quilt them in the colder days, when I need something warm on my lap.

ann31039 01-24-2011 02:23 PM

i work outside all day everyday. so when i'm home, i don't go out. expecially in the winter. just got in and i have ice blocks instead of feet.

IBQUILTIN 01-24-2011 03:43 PM

Lucky for me, I have a big covered area on my deck with power available. I just take my machine outdoors

Stitchit 123 01-24-2011 05:09 PM

I sew/quilt all year around I figure the reason ext.cords were invented was to reach the picnic table 8-)

DogHouseMom 01-24-2011 05:20 PM

A LOT less, I confess to liking gardening more than quilting! We also own a business in the horticulture industry so there is no need for me to belong to a forum, I just talk to other folks in the industry. Get TONS of free plants too, many of which I share with friends neighbors.

Unless ... if it's a REALLY hot summer, you'll find me in the AC.

pkary 01-24-2011 06:15 PM

I like to piece by hand, outside. So, summer is much more productive for getting tops made than winter. I also quilt outside, by hand using a hoop, but it is easier inside, in the winter.

TexasSunshine 01-24-2011 06:53 PM

Have to start gardening as soon as it starts warming up, usually in March, at least start preparing flower beds.

Rusty's Mama 01-24-2011 06:53 PM

I sew as much in the summer as the winter. Sometimes in the winter, when it is especially gloomy, and the quilt room is cold, I would rather curl up with a good novel. In the summer, we spend time at a 5th wheel on our property two hours from home. Hubby fishes - I quilt!

Va Quilter 01-24-2011 07:39 PM

I sew all seasons..I don't go outside much in the summertime, unless the humidity level is down...

berrypatch 01-24-2011 07:39 PM

I do less in spring & summer - love my flower and vegetable gardens!!! Also watching the birds make a home and raise their young.

neeng 01-24-2011 08:05 PM

Well, this is my first year quilting, started in October. But I'm known to spend all daylight hours in my garden if I'm not at work, so it's unlikely I'll get much quilting done after May 1st, unless it rains all summer.
