i recieved a pm two days ago or so, never heard of the lady checked her name she has o messages or topics ,she just wanted to know how i was and what i was working on and so forth, kinda gave me the chilly willys as i hadnt seen her name before on the board.
has any one else recieved one?

No I haven't. That is strange.

Depending on the nature of the strange PM, I'd alert the management. If it's a phishing link or something, we don't need that kinda trouble!

I got one few weeks ago asking me if I could help her with some projects. She has 2 listings here. I first answered but then ignored her other messages.

No, but that gives me the heeby jeebies just thinking about it.Please make Admin. or a moderator aware of the sitution, give them a screen shot or their board name.

I got one out of the blue on June 4th like that. Boiled down to it -- she wanted fabric. I couldn't help her though...

If any PM strikes you wrong...copy and paste the whole thing to a moderator or admin.

I got a message from someone asking for fabric, it took me a while to reply and then I got another one worded almost exactly the same way from someone else. Get this the first one's name was Ashley, the second was named Ash... coincidence? I THINK NOT!

So far I haven't gotten any but the day ain't over yet.

I was reading about that on another thread here and Admin. blocked that person wanting selvages, etc.

Did you check to see if she was listed? I would still tell Patrice about it.

I got one like that a week or so ago. I just ignored it. I've checked here profile a couple of times and she still hasn't posted anything. Sure seems weird to me. I mentioned it in the chat room and was told that the Administrators look our for things like that. I haven't heard from her again, thank Heaven.

I can't believe somebody has the gall to ask for fabric. If you offered thats one thing but out right asking. :thumbdown:

You can send your concerns to Admin or any moderators ... check to see who is online , that way it can be dealt with fast ! We can only help stop the problem if we know it exsists :lol:

I got one like that a hwile back, I just ignored it. I only respond to PMs that make sense!! :)

I have received PM's like that too and delete them. Also had a few asking for free fabric. Thats why I posted the message a few days ago about whether or not to trust them but the topic was locked. :?

Yes had that happen too and our "APE" pounced right on them and clobbered them but good.

I received both of these as well. Don't mind helping someone, we all are very generous with our time and talents!

Yeah, I got mine from the "selvage person" and the "ash" person also. I ignored it too.

we have addressed the issue of unsolicited private messages once or twice before. as the board grows, we'll occassionally attract the attention of unsavory characters. it sounds to me as though you have all kept your wits about you and are making good choices. :thumbup:

if somebody sends you a pm asking for something, and you haven't already established a friendship with that person, please do report it immediately to Admin or to me. you are welcome to report it to both of us. the first one to see it will look into it and take the appropriate action.

if somebody sends you a pm "out of the blue" that appears to be just a friendly attempt to make a friend, follow your gut instinct. i've sent pms to members myself because i noticed they lived nearby, or that we seem to have a common interest in something. (i promise - i don't need any selvages. :lol: )

we have had one or two reports of odd sounding "social" pms, though. if you get a pm that makes you suspicious or uncomfortable in any way, please feel free to let us know.

we may not notice a report in a topic. there are thousands of new posts every day.

also, if the point and reason for such a topic is not made carefully and clearly, it will create a great deal of unneccessary and counterproductive drama, confusion, fear, arguments, and very hurt feelings.

much more efficient to send us a pm. ;-)

Saf45, I got the same message - was she making potholders for Father's Day? I also noticed that she was new and did not have any posts. I just answered that I thought the potholders would be nice. I too thought it strange and weird, but thought I should say something.....

I received a chatty one from someone I'd never noticed before but I went ahead and answered it. Then a day or two later she wrote back and apologized. She said that she meant to click on someone elses name and hit mine by mistake. It was from someone named Ashley also. And I got the selvage one but I told her that I kept mine as I was trying to save up enough to make a Rocky Road to Kansas.

You know what? I think Ashley just joined on June 11th and that's probably why she doesn't have any posts. She goes by the screen name of lovesfabric and I believe she was just being friendly. She's the one that said that she was meaning to send it to someone else. That one didn't bother me too much.

I figured I was targeted because I had been to Marshalls and showed pictures of all the fabric I bought.

I got one from Ashley, I was under the impression that she was a student and loved to sew. I did answer it, then she responded and that was it.
