Plain yogurt.

wet tea bags

sewgull 05-31-2011 05:35 AM

Brew some tea, then make just like you would for ice tea. Place wet cloth with the tea and place on sunburn. Tea is
a natural healing for burns. My doctor told me to use tea after I had lasor surgery. It felt worked soooooo good

Cool water - the comment on cold cloths was a good one. Cool water is the best for minor burns - fill the bath and get in!!

Boni53 05-31-2011 07:20 AM

Don't know if this would work. I use it when I burn my self on the oven. PAM. When using on a burn, it will take out the sting, and never blisters up. Won't hurt.
Please be careful and hope you enjoy your stay with friend.

TootieAnn 05-31-2011 07:43 AM

A paste of cool water and baking soda might help. I have also heard of people using cool buttermilk. I hope you feel better soon.

Tudey 05-31-2011 07:53 AM

Someone suggested Noczema, I wouldn't. It will dry it ou and make it peel and itch worse! Try used tea bags--the tannic acid draws out the sting.

lavender essential oil, applied sparingly.

St. John's wort oil, applied liberally

lavender infusion--brew a few spoonfuls of lavender flowers, dried or fresh, soak a towel in the water, apply to burned areas

Use Noxzema for now, that will cool some of the burn.

I don't have Noxzema... all I have is Vaseline Intensive care lotion :( and I know for a fact that my friend doesn't... she doesn't have my terrible skin! lol

We have the air on and I'm really really hot too... Sorry for complaining so much!

I've always heard that plain Vaseline traps the heat in, making the burn worse. Please try something else.

Do you have any tea? Instant or tea bags will do. Make a batch of very strong tea and let it cool. Dip old rags into it and put on your sunburn.(Cover up anything you don't want stained, like upholstery, etc. As soon as one rag gets warm, dip another into the liquid. Keep this up until the tannic acid in the tea draws the "heat" out. Don't put it into the fridge, as you might get chilled from the heat of the sunburn. Good luck. You may still peel, but the pain will go.

You have to see the sun to get a sunburn. Hopefully we will have a drying trend this weekend with some sunshine! :D

Alu_Rathbone 05-31-2011 11:46 AM

Thank you everyone, I am using a combination of milk and tea bags... not at the same time... but alternately... the burn is much better today... *huggles all*

joy 05-31-2011 01:34 PM

Actually, cloudy days can result in the worst sunburns---something about the UV's filtering or something--.

I learned that the hard way about ten years ago.

eastermarie 05-31-2011 04:50 PM

Asprin opens the tiny blood vessels and lets the heat out.

joy 05-31-2011 05:11 PM

When I was a silly 16 year old, lay out in the sun all day without my mother around, my back was very blistered and red... and she put tannic acid jelly on my back and arms... was off work for a week....!!! Silly me....

Be care ful of sun poisoning. I had that once and I couldn't believe how sick I became. spent one day at the beach, just a few hours and didn't realize how burned I was or how sick i became.

Please test the noxema on a small spot first. Guess how I found out I'm allergic to noxema? Lobster AND hives should be avoided!

Plain unflavored youghurt will give remarkable results.
Just slather it on as you need it. A little carton goes a long way.
I used to live on St Croix and it worked wonders healing the sun broiled scandinavian tourists.
If nothing else, try rubbing it with plain milk, Somehow the protein in the milk seems to help the burned skin.

borntoquilt 06-01-2011 08:04 AM

Apply BUTTERMILK to your burn! I am really surprised the vinegar didn't work

LaurieLibra 06-01-2011 04:59 PM

the best thing to use is red wine vinegar. Don't dilute it and put yourself in a tub, naked, and pour it over the burned areas. Works wonders. You won't peel or anything. Don't use any lotions, it seems to make things worse.

Cassews 06-01-2011 07:23 PM

cool ideas but what about both sunburn & windburn as I experienced this past weekend rock hounding ? LOL my poor mother-in-law about had a stroke when she got up Sunday and saw how red I was (I used to be a red-head with fair skin!LOL still have the fair skin but the old auburn red locks have turned silver & grey !LOL)

Oh and I had suntan lotion on and lots to drink as well .. LOL we were above 10,000 feet !
