Do you wash them with the fiber fill still inside?

I've made one for our friend who has a Rottie ~ her girl is really a stout big cattle ranch working dog. Just by the yardage, I think, if I remember I bought the widest fleece available 56" ~ layered two pieces ~ cut the circle with a quilt tape ruler the long tape I think it's 108". You can even join pieces easily as fleece is so forgiving. It's going to take a lot of poly fill to fill that big of bed. My girlfriend bought a 5# box of poly fill and we used nearly all of it, if I remember correctly. My friends Rottie is a cattle dog and I made a fleece coat for her Rottie and lined (stuffed between the layers) with the left over poly fiber fill. Because her dog goes out in sub-zero weather with my friend when it's calving time, she'd get so cold...now she won't even get out of the truck until my friend puts her coat on her. :0) |
Love this, I have some fleece that I was not sure what to do with and now I know what to do. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the info. My great dane loves to fluff things up, so she would love one. The rottie is a mix, he only weighs 95#, but he just had knee surgery again and has to have a firm bed. But I will have to try to make one for the dane. She currently sleeps either on the sofa or on her 35"X50" mattress. I think if I got 60" in length of each piece, it might be big enough for her. Sure is worth a try.

Girlie Girl certainly has the look of the royals! She must be be a relative of my Scout. Same markings and always looks ready to wear her tiara. I shall put on my servant's garb and return to the sewing room to wait up the princess by creating a snugly little bed. Yes, Girlie Girl is truly a princess, I call her Pretty Girl Princess. She adopted us 2 years ago this Father's Day. We believe someone dumped her as she was wandering the neighborhood for several weeks, letting the little ones carry her around any which way and she never tried to scratch to get away. She was starving and I fed her and gave her water. DH said she could live in the garage as we already had Kip-Purr and my DH is a one cat ~ man. But she proved to be so sweet tempered I started letting her into the laundry room, then kitchen, then she was IN :0) Took her to the Vet to be spade and when they shaved her tummy there was already a scar, she'd been spade. The Vet said in this economy people are leaving pets behind....she'd been loved by someone that's for certain. She was scanned and there was no micro-chip so she was ours now... :0) Oh she only weighs about 7# whereas Kip-Purr is a hefty 17# but she rules the roost...he gives her wide birth if she wakes up on the wrong side of the puffy cat bed :0) |
