One of my co workers had been planning trip to Mexico for about three months. She leaves in two weeks and refuses to cancel it. She has a heart condition. I can't understand it. She was informed today that the new policy, because of the swine flu, is that if you go to Mexico you must take and additional seven days off to make sure you are flu free. (We work in a hospital and have direct patient contact.) She is so mad about this. I think it's just a good thing. I just don't understand what she is thinking.

Ha! You guys are so funny, and it is so good to have a laugh.
I read an article in a newspaper yesterday that said Hand Sanitizer works when it is at least 70% alcohol. So you need to make sure the bottles are closed so no evaporation of the alcohol happens. Same article also says that bar soap sanitizes WAY better than the bottled stuff, even if it is anti-bacterial. So we have gone back to good old bar soap at home and in our business bathrooms. We have both available, actually, and the sanitizer. And the clorox wipes. |

HOLD THE PHONE------I understand what could happen with all this Swine Flu business but honestly, let's not let the media blow this thing out of porportion.
If there are 3 people somewhere who actually have Swine Flu, there are probably 30 million who don't have it and won't get it! We all need to just use common sense: wash hands often, etc. The suggestions that have been listed are excellent! Those with compromized immune systems would be smart to avoid large groups of people until this thing blows over. [+ we can chat as much as we want here on the board and quilt as much as we want without spreading (or getting )a single germ] |
right on, joan!
i absolutely agree!. it's as though the media is in the business of creating news, rather than reporting it. they can take a new year's snapper and turn it into a world war bomb! a couple of years ago, my dh caught a 14" dogfish (a toothless member of the shark {hah!} family) and everyone for a mile around went screaming around yelling 'jaws!". when he released it, some real 'tough guy' became threatening until he was made to understand the nonsense of it all. this reminds me of that. |
I remember when I was a kid getting the polio vaccine. Everybody in town went to the school & took it on a sugar cube. That was in the 60's. I never knew anybody that had or got it. My mom got it as a child but is was not so severe that she had to have the iron lung & stuff. I also remember getting the Asian flu as a kid. Mom & I both got it but my dad & 2 sisters never did. Panic can cause us a lot of grief & worry hopefully it is not as bad as we think. The stupid news media can blow things really out of preportion. When Hurricane Ike blew thru, I taped up my windows because my house faces south west & I live about 200 miles from Houston & the way the media was predicting the storm, East Texas was really going to get hit hard. So it just goes to show you never know what will happen. So just avoid crowds, closed in places & use sound judgement. I heard a doctor on the radio say that we should all eat lots of fresh fruits & vegetables & lots of garlic & onions as these will boost your immune system also there is a herb or supplement called N- Athyl- something Can't remember the rest but is suppose to boost you up.
