Got this in an email and had a good laugh. NOt my original post

Great Weather in Texas...you gotta love it

Dear Diary,
Just moved to Texas ! Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful
sunny days and warm balmy evenings. It is beautiful. I've finally found my
home. I love it here.

June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an
air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see
the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and
rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing thelawn for me. Another
scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to
this kind of heat? At least, it's kind of windy though. But getting used to
the heat is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th:
Fell asleep by the community pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body.
Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though.
Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:
I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By
the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to the
size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The car now smells
like Kibbles and Bits. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this
heat. Good ol' Mr. Sun strikes again.

July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as
hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman charged
$200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th:
Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and I
can't even go inside. Lomita is the lucky one. Why did I ever come here?

Aug. 4th:
Its 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500
and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid state.

Aug. 8th:
If another wise butt cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to
strangle him. Darn heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is boiling
over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

Aug. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on the
seats in the car, I thought my a-- was on fire. My skin melted to the seat.
I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs . Now my car smells like burnt hair, and baked cat.

Aug 10th:
The weather report might as well be a recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and
sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do anything for 2 damn months and the
weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in
this darn state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700 worth of cactus
will just dry up and blow over. Even the cactus can't live in this
heat.

Aug. 14th:
Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus are dead. Forgot to
crack the window and blew the windshield out of the car. The installer
came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for you today?" My
sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Texas . What
kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?? Will write later to
let you know how the trial goes.

erstan947 08-03-2011 07:31 PM

mmonohon 08-03-2011 07:34 PM

isnthatodd 08-03-2011 07:39 PM

It's all too true

debbieumphress 08-03-2011 07:41 PM

It's sad when your pets need a pond in the yard to keep cool, they have to wear pet shoes, you can't spend as much time outside..... Rain dance anyone???

jean1941 08-03-2011 07:42 PM

TRUE TRUE TRUE but I do not want tp live anywhere else lived here for almost 70 years and it is the best

debbieumphress 08-03-2011 07:46 PM

Me too. Only lived here since my dad retired in 1972 but love it most of the time. LOL. I just miss the green around me, the brown is depressing.

BrendaY 08-03-2011 08:35 PM

I've been transplanted from Texas to western Oregon.... It's just been so hot here for the past week - way up almost to 80 degrees!

Cools down to the 50's at night...

Ya'll try and stay cool down there.... Just stay down at the lake, but don't forget the bug spray! Those mosquitos might carry you skinny ones off somewhere..... but please, please save some of that catfish and hush puppies for me!

Missysgottohelp 08-03-2011 08:49 PM

lol. this is so funny but so true. I have family in Texas and they said to send down some rain, I keep trying but it's not working.

quiltstodo 08-03-2011 08:51 PM

Yep sounds like a conversation I just had with my cousin there (Hamilton,tx)

Jim's Gem 08-03-2011 09:15 PM

Moved from Oregon to Texas in 1980. For anyone that does not know, that was the last great heat wave. When we left Oregon it was 67 degrees. When we got to Texas it was 114. Welcome to Hell. I think we might be finally breaking a few of those records, maybe. LOL

SueDor 08-04-2011 01:48 AM

Oh so funny, I was laughing so hard that I was crying. People over here thinks its hot in the 90's, which it is but not as hot as Texas.

sueisallaboutquilts 08-04-2011 03:45 AM

I would be suicidal in Texas- how do you stand it??? YIKES!

ShowMama 08-04-2011 07:26 AM

I remember 1980. To get away from the heat for a few days, we drove up and visited friends in NW Iowa. The day we came home, it was in the 40s in Iowa, but when we got back to Texas it was 105! I think this year is a lot worse, though, mainly because it's so dry along with the heat.

But I'm still Texas born and bred, and wouldn't live anywhere else in the world!

MelodyWB 08-04-2011 07:31 AM

Too funny..I live in Arizona..I feel your pain..lol..!!

debbieumphress 08-04-2011 08:15 AM

I am laughing at the stories too. Hamilton is only an hour from me so he is hot there too. LOL.

We have already broken so many daily records it's not funny.

I'm waiting to see corn popping when we drive down the road past the farms. LOL.

nativetexan 08-04-2011 08:28 AM

ha, ha, ha. Very cute.

lalaland 08-04-2011 09:21 AM

My son moved to Austin 2 years ago and his first summer was one of the hottest on record. I asked him if that was a deal breaker and he said no, but he wasn't leaving the house, or the A/C, unless he had to!!

Barbshobbies 08-04-2011 09:25 AM

Have a brother in Lago Vista TX, he said he would never move back to Wis. But we talked to him the other day and he said, "It wasn`t to bad, he could open a window in the evenning and get a breeze from Lago Vista lake, that was until the lake dried up", We have been having a real hot and wet summer here in Wisconsin too.

chickadee_42us 08-04-2011 09:48 AM

Yep, that about covers it . Those hot wind tunnels of downtown Dallas are truly like sitting under a blow dryer - too darn hot.

Helovesme 08-04-2011 10:05 AM

Been in Texas since 1990 and wouldn't live anywhere else. At least it's consistent and we know what to expect. After consistent temperatures like this, 95 feels like a cold front!

laurlync 08-04-2011 10:13 AM

Cute!!

It's hot enough in Texas to make the devil sweat! In other words...it's hotter than you know where!!

I see lots of postings on Facebook everyday of pictures friends have taken of temperature readings around town. The heat this year has been ridiculous and the forecasts aren't showing any signs of relief. Walking in a parking lot is like walking through an oven. And we still have most of August to go. In fact, if often doesn't really cool down until well into September or even October. We are starting to hear more about conserving water and conserving electricity to avoid rolling blackouts which we don't normally see in our area. I am already dreading my electric bill next month.

But, all that being said, I still LOVE TEXAS and wouldn't want to live anywhere else!!!

debbieumphress 08-04-2011 11:20 AM

I have lived all over the world and wouldn't live anywhere else while my mom and MIL are alive but seriously thinking of moving someplace cooler and closer to the west coast. LOL. For now, too much family here. This to will pass...LOL
Out here in the country we are not effected by the rolling blackouts and water etc. But the electric bill will be higher for sure. We do the twelve month average so it should average out not not hurt as bad. Just saying.
I agree 90 would feel like a cool front here. 8-)

sewgray 08-04-2011 02:21 PM

Keep your chin up, it's August 4, so we only have three more months of this.

Well if you ever move to the west coast stay away from silicon valley. You will have sticker shock at the prices of homes here and with not alot of land. The house we have in Hamilton was 35k with 3/4 acre here (if you could get that much land) would be closer to 600K

debbieumphress 08-04-2011 04:50 PM

So funny. I know that too. Been there done that. i was thinking of moving in with NP3 or Gramma MO. LOL

MaryStoaks 08-04-2011 05:50 PM

Thanks Debbie! That sounds like the CA desert where I live. But then we average 72 degrees all fall, winter and spring!
