When I was in high school I used to collect song lyrics in a notebook, sometimes the whole song, sometimes bits and pieces. Lately I have been hearing songs and lines that I remember having cared about. I think my all time favorite is from Carol King:

You've got to get up every morning
With a smile on your face,
And show the world all the love in your heart.
Then people are gonna treat you better,
You're gonna find, yes you will,
That you are beautiful as you feel.

Do you have a favorite?

Kappy 03-01-2011 04:30 PM

Right know I can't think of any, but at 2:00 AM when I should be sleeping, they keep running though my mind! LOL But then only part of them and I lay awake trying to remember the rest of it! ;)

Boy, this one is hard but I have 2 in mind:

We Are the World
Heal the World

I just loooove those 2 songs :)

I love music and have kept lists of song lyrics, titles and artists I love over the years. It amazes me how people can put so much meaning into a few short lines!

One of my all time favorites:

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I want to go back...to the islands...
Where the shrimp boats tie up...to the pilings...
Give me oysters and beer...
For dinner every day of the year...
And I'll feel fine...I'll feel fine...

Jimmy Buffett

I love ANY island - especially tropical :)

lalaland 03-01-2011 05:37 PM

I have a few:

"I don't care what consequence it brings,
I have been a fool for lesser things"

Billy Joel talking about love in his song The Longest Time.

"Life is so brief and time is a thief when you're undecided"

I have many many favorite songs. I think my all time favorite is "Jesus Loves Me." I found myself singing it one day when I was eight years old. I was feeling extremely sad and just started singing it and felt better. It still works today and I am many years older. I sing either Annie's song or Jiminy Cricket's song when I am feeling stressed. They put a smile on my face everytime. I wrote about "Our" favorite love songs on another post. Forever and Last Date.

Joe Cocker ~
You are so beautiful to me
Can't you see?
You're everything I hoped for
You're everything I need...
You are so beautiful to me.

It was playing a lot when my son was born. Whenever I hear it, it brings tears to my eyes. Also...

The lyrics to What a Wonderful World by the great Louis Armstrong.
And I think to myself...... what a wonderful world!

This is one of those forgotten Elton Tunes but is one of my favorites .

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
From the soundtrack Friends

I hope the day will be a lighter highway
For friends are found on every road
Can you ever think of any better way
For the lost and weary travellers to go

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right

It seems to me a crime that we should age
These fragile times should never slip us by
A time you never can or shall erase
As friends together watch their childhood fly

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right

Allison Krauss "When you say nothing at all"

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

Alan Jackson "Remember When"

Remember when I was young so were you
time stood still love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
made love and then you cried
Remember when
Remember when we vowed the vows walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Enya "Only Time"

  :D :D :D Allison krauss played at our wedding
and Alan Jacksons' song makes me cry everytime I hear it.

Come Monday, I'll be holding you tight
I spent (?) lonely days in a brown L A haze
and I just need you by my side.

Forgive me Jimmy Buffet its early and I am blank on all the words, but I really do love this song.

Time after Time
I tell myself that I'm
So lucky to be loving you.

So lucky to be
The one you run to see
In the evening when the day is through.

I only know what I know
The passing years may show
You've kept our love so young, so new
And Time after Time
I tell myself that I'm
So lucky to be loving you.

My husband's and my song - 50 years!

Please google Time after Time - Frank Sinatra

Please also google Fly Me Up to Where You Are -Josh Groban

Those are my two favorites. Edie

These are the lyrics that twist my heart every time I hear them. We lost our youngest daughter and these lyrics are what is in my heart.

I never knew til you were gone
how many pages you were on
it never ends I keep turning
and line after line and you are there again
I dont know how to let you go
you are so deep down in my soul
I feel helpless so hopeless
its a door that never closes
no I don't know how to do this

I've talked to friends
I've talked to myself
I've talked to God
I prayed liked hell but I still miss you
I tried sober I tried drinking
I've been strong and I've been weak
and I still miss you
I've done everything
move on like I'm supposed to
I'd give anything for one more minute with you
I still miss you

Yes, we have an amazing daughter with Schmidts Syndrome. She is employed full time as an Administrator, travels constantly and is the biggest risk taker I have ever seen. She has literally been at deaths door due to her condition but is a real fighter. She was given 6 mos. to 3 years when she was 20. She is now 48. "I did it my way" would difinitly be her song.

Love Jimmy Buffet!

Just now trying to decide if I take the early purchase advantage for Keith Urban tickets tomorrow as a summer birthday prez. Love him but we have seen him at The Grand Ole Opry and also his All 4 the Hall fundraiser for the Cuntry music Museum and Hall of Fame.

Aren't our brains amazing? Reading this I can sing most of the songs or at least parts. How do we know all this/how do we have ROOM for all this? The song stash in my brain is bigger than the worst hoarder's stash!

canmitch1971 03-02-2011 09:07 AM

I have always loved this song and how true it is. It is by George Harrison.

Isn't it a pity
Now, isn't it a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Ditto
A lot of Jimmy's songs

I think songs by JB and S&G are good because they write them.
