You have a lot of good ideas here.

My husband looked awhile a few years ago to find the right case to go on the wall with a glass front to display his father's military medals. It looks so nice on the wall.

My father years ago made my mother a big wood display case with a glass door to put all the bells she collected. My youngest sister has that case now since they have both passed on, and that case is full of bells from all over the country.

My great nephew was named after my Dad, and coincidentally was born 100 years later. Dad was born in June of 1914 and nephew was born in August of 2014. I wanted to give him something that he could have over the years as a reminder. My mother had a large collection of two dollar bills. Both g grandparents passed on before the nephew was born. I sorted through the $2 and found one with a serial number ending in 14,I found an acrylic photo frame viewable on both sides. I mounted a picture of my parents, a note about each and the two dollar bill in the frame and sent it to my nephew, he has his great grandfather's name as a keepsake and something from his great grandmother a well. My niece was thrilled, she was 4 when my mother passed away, but was a Sr.in H.S. when my dad passed, dad lived with my brother an niece the last 4 years of his life.
So perhaps a picture if available of the g grandmother and a note about the thimble to go along with it.

How about a small shadow box and add a picture of her great grandmother
