Today was my day off, and also half price week at the local thrift shop! Of course, I couldn't stay away! I spent less that $10 and came away with a 7 paperbook books, a book about patchwork quilting (old but still good!), 2 craft patterns, 3 bags of polyfil stuffing (one of the reasons I always go!) and a BIG roll of plush felt... must be at least 7 yards! It was $2.50!! A good day of thrift shop shopping!! YEY!!

Anyone else have any awesome bargains they want to tell us about!?

Grama Lehr 05-05-2011 07:37 AM

I only wish. . . . .

Ramona Byrd 05-05-2011 08:05 AM

Only thing I came away with yesterday was a lovely, butter soft leather jacket with a style I'd never have been able to afford new~~and it was only $2.98!!! And it fit beautifully, which is rather difficult with small waist, big boobs and batwing under arms!!
Have to go out of town to get fabrics and such in thrift shops. And those Feather Weights...ah, they are to dream about. Never around here, and what is there have almost new prices on them.

mommafank 05-05-2011 08:07 AM

I love my thrift stores. I got a huge bag of fabric recently for 4.00. I ususally find at least one little piece to buy for pennies. Best haul was 13 yards of 90 inch good muslin for 4.00.

fabrichore 05-05-2011 08:08 AM

I wish we had such shops here in Uk. We have charity shops, which I think are the same, but I have never seen fabric of any kind. It is mainly clothes and bric a brac. We do not have garage sales, but we do have car boot sales, I have been to a couple but they start so early in the morning, and I have never seen any sort of fabric at these either

Zappycat 05-05-2011 09:16 AM

Oh, I forgot... in my haul for under $10, I also got an old deluxe Scrabb;e game with a revolving turntable, very cool... I will give it to my sister for her vacation house and another educational game that I will send to my daughter's school. She goes to a special school for handicapped kids and this game is a bingo game with animal sounds. The bingo cards just have pictures of animals, no words, and it comes with a cassette tape of animal sounds. I think the teacher will be happy with it... and if not, what the heck, it was only $1!!

MaryStoaks 05-05-2011 09:20 AM

Yesterday I found 17 yards of nice quilting fabric for $17 at a thrift store. I hadn't been to this store for months because I don't really need any more fabric. I just couldn't resist!

AngieS 05-05-2011 09:21 AM

Great deals! I never find anything like this! Ours is kinda high priced. I can get the boys jeans for $2.50 but a lil jumper for my 3 year old cost me $3. (a lot less material in a lil jean jumper than the boys pants).

I found 2 flowery sheets there last time but they were $2.50 each. I bought them both and will use them in with some other sheet fat quarters that I bought from someone. All flowery. :)

It just goes to show that there are more ways than one to build a stash. I prefer the thrift store way as it is fun to look and search and costs a whole lot less.

Every Sunday at our local DAV (Disabled Veterans) Thrift Store is 25 cent day. Certain colored tags are 25 cents each or 5 for $1. Last Sunday I got 3+ yards of red plaid flannel for 25 cents, also a new jacket for 25 cents, a man's shirt with the tags still on it (never worn) for 25 cents ($75 on the tag) and little girl's tap shoes for 25 cents. My granddaughter's size and she will love them !!!!!
I don't shop at the mall anymore..............

My thrift stores are pretty pricey but occasionally you can find a really good deal on 50% off days. I seem to find better deals at yard sales but those are only in the spring/summer.

I got a "dollhouse" at Goodwill last week. It is 5 feet tall about 3 feet wide and has 4 stories plus attic, total of 7 rooms. Carpet on the floors, no furniture, but that is OK cause I got it for the cats I have taken in who needed new homes. I have found homes for 7-8 cats in past year. Anyway my son took the house out of the truck and 3 cats were in it in less than 2 min. The cost? $15. Could not buy the wood for that. It is going on the screened porch the cats have access to when they are thru roaming the barn and yard. Take care.

What a great idea for re-purposeing! Goes to show you have imagination to spare!

smagruder 05-06-2011 07:34 AM

I never have good luck at thrift shops around here. Their prices are NOT thrifty. Boo Hoo Whine Whine Whine.... some day I will hit the mother load....lol

roadrunr 05-06-2011 07:42 AM

I also love thrift stores. I go in to see if I can find any batting (I use the batting for qayg, so even if the part of the batting has been used, I can still use it. My best find was 2 pieces of the same bue fabric for 20 cents. I had no idea how long the material was, but I knew they were both big pieces. When I got home, I discovered that each piece of fabric was 3 yds long. Twenty cents for six yards of material is not bad at all!

okiepastor 05-06-2011 08:41 AM

The ones in Enid are HIGH compared to all the bargains I read about here--mostly $2 per yard or more....

Ouch! I get some less than a dollar---usually just a price put on the piece----sometimes only 40 cents or therebouts for a yard or more. Keep waiting for it to go up though like everything else.

Olivia's Grammy 05-06-2011 09:24 AM

We have a new GW. I've found some good fabric in there for a small price. Once piece was 7 yd. I think I paid less than $5 and got 25% off.

Stitchit123 05-06-2011 09:31 AM

quilter1943 05-06-2011 09:36 AM

Wow! Don't you love it? I got two cotton men's shirts - one pink, one lavendar - for my latest Linus quilt, some jeans for a couple of little girl purses and the top for a table runner that is printed with pineapples. All of this for $6.

Bought this working machine last Friday at a Thrift shop for $12.50. It is a White Rotary77 Sewmaster....no belt and wheel moves clockwise! Love Thrift stores!

I think it is made of leftover Tank metal but sews beautifully.

I love thrift stores, Salvation Army and garage sales. Today I "hit" local garage sales. I collect music boxes and today I got three from the "Noah" collection all three were $ 8.00. plus lots of other good deals.

gzuslivz 05-06-2011 02:57 PM

Yeah, the thrift stores around here aren't that good. The clothes are too high priced and the rest of the stuff is junk. The only think I found worthwhile was a light table for $5 that I picked up for my best friend.

laalaaquilter 05-06-2011 03:27 PM

I got an office copy paper box full of aida cloth, large quilting thread cones, and embroidery kits for $6.30 this morning on the way to the estate sale where I got the Singer for $14 that I posted in pictures forum today.

luce321 05-06-2011 04:43 PM

I love garage sales, flea markets, antique shops and rummage sales, I go to them every Saturday.

I had a yard sale last Saturday and did really well. Had not had one in years. The weather was lovely and we had a great turnout.

I love thrift shops. What wonderful things you can find

Joan Dickson 05-06-2011 07:45 PM

Yesterday I found 6 pieces of cotton fabric, two pieces perfect for Project Linus quilts, others dark prints. I may make up a couple of dresses from some of them. 18 yards for $14.00, not too bad.

sew1 05-06-2011 07:53 PM

Went to local thrift store a couple weeks ago and got over 24 yards of assorted material for $9.00. A few weeks before that about 18 yards for $7.00. I'm a happy camper.

Joan Dickson 05-06-2011 08:02 PM

Now all we need is the time to make up all of these projects - LOL!!!

The other day at our local Good Will, I found a huge plastic bag full of buttons (still on the cards). I purchased it for $3.99. When I added up all the prices on the cards that the buttons were attached to it was over $50.
