I took these pictures about 3:30 p.m. today. We live in Central Oregon and a thunder storm is rolling in. They are calling for dry lightening strikes for the next few days. We are extremely dry, the forest floor is like kindling.

I thought the clouds were rather interesting in the pre- storm shape.

donnajean 07-25-2010 03:45 PM

I'm in PA. Clouds rolled in here as well & we lost electricity at 3:30p.m. and did not get it back till 7:30p.m. At least we got a little rain. It's been dry here as well this summer.

StitchnFind 07-25-2010 03:46 PM

Beautiful pictures but they sure look scarey.

brushandthimble 07-25-2010 03:49 PM

beautiful! wouldn't that make a nice fabric print!

craftybear 07-25-2010 04:02 PM

wow, those clouds are cool

magpie 07-25-2010 04:12 PM

I was thinking great handpainted fabric. We had rain yesterday and a little this am, clear and sunny the rest of the day.

magpie 07-25-2010 04:13 PM

Craftybear, you've been missed. Are you and DH doing ok?

telby69 07-25-2010 04:21 PM

If we saw those clouds in Iowa, we would be expecting hail.

dglvr 07-25-2010 04:21 PM

Thanks ChasingHawk. I'm in Central Washington. I wonder what way those clouds are going. Can you tell? We were suppose to get some clouds in on Tuesday and you know the weatherpeople are never wrong (just kidding).
If they would bring rain that would be great but it don't sound like it. I hope no fires are sparked anywhere. Scary situation. Cool pictures though. Keep us posted.

quiltinghere 07-25-2010 04:25 PM

We had enough rain last night that the pool overflowed.

I wish I was at your pool right now. No really, I hope everything is okay and not flooding. But if you'd send us some of that rain I'd appreciate it.

Chasing Hawk 07-25-2010 05:17 PM

Looks as though the thunder has stopped, high clouds. No lightening here at least not in my general area. the weather radar shows some storms heading this way from the south.

One fire was reported today, 20 miles north of here, human caused but they don't suspect arson. Probably someone burning yard debris which is a no-no this time of year.

littlehud 07-25-2010 05:27 PM

Those are certainly unusual clouds. Hope the weather doesn't get to bad.

LOL....Only a quilter would think of something like that....LOL

And we are starting to experience the sheet lightning here in NC right now also. And it's been so hot this weekend.

Well I'm glad your in the clear so far. When I first responed to your post there was no breeze at all here and no clouds. Now we are getting a slight breeze from the west and I see clouds moving in.
Darn people burning when its this hot and dry. A guy did that by my moms house and burned several thousand acres. He had to pay for everything. Thankfully it went away from my moms. I hope they catch the guy that caused the one by your place. There should be an extra idoit charge tagged on.

CarrieAnne 07-25-2010 05:51 PM

We had bad storms all last week, some were REALLY scary! The worst part was, no playing on the COMPUTER!

amandasgramma 07-25-2010 05:57 PM

Good pictures! We got the thunderstorm about in the last 2 hours (we're in LaPine, south of Bend, Oregon). It's blown over now. Sure cooled everything off!

We are in La Pine also. Near the state park. We got Thunder boomers but no rain.

cjomomma 07-25-2010 06:21 PM

If we saw then clouds here in Kentucky we would be running for shelter incase of a tornado.

KarenSimon 07-25-2010 07:54 PM

Those kind of clouds are called Mammatus cloud. Or Mamma(meaning "udder" or "breast"). They are really fascinating to me.

wvdek 07-25-2010 08:29 PM

I have never seen clouds like that. They are utterly beautiful or is that udderly? :)

Gramof6 07-25-2010 08:34 PM

I love your pics! Beautiful clouds. We have seen those type of clouds here & they brought storms. Happy you are okay. I cannot get over people burning crap when they shouldn't. Grrrr Dad was a fireman for almost 25 yrs & we were taught to highly respect fire. I an not afraid of it, just highly respect it.

crawford1219 07-26-2010 01:39 AM

Very pretty-I just love thunderstorms. They are soothing to me and bring me peace and calm-seems odd since there are a lot of people who are scared of storms and get nervous from them.

ashlett 07-26-2010 04:21 AM

Good pictures! Here in the U.K. we have had no rain in southern parts for months, it is like a desert. :( :(

cyniree 07-26-2010 04:33 AM

very cool photos

drdolly 07-26-2010 06:24 AM

hope you get the rain you need. It has done nothing but rain here and now flooding. Gotta love mother nature. She needs to spread the rain evenly.

Ms. Shawn 07-26-2010 07:19 AM

Cool! Try for more pics when storm hits!

crafter005 07-26-2010 01:52 PM

I was thinking they would make a nice fabric as well.

Stay safe. We sure have been having wierd weather this year!

I agree. We had a bad storm here a couple of weeks ago. It was really a downpour and lots of lightening and thunder that seemed to be right overhead. I so wanted to get on the computer to just try to ignore but..... I couldn't do sewing for the same reason.

:(

That was my first thought, what a great blender fabric that would make. ;-)

adrianlee 07-26-2010 05:13 PM

So far I see only one little cloud to the northeast of us. Weather guy on Spokane TV says the clouds will probably head Idaho/Montana direction. We have couple firecrews, guys on standby in our little community just in case some little cloud gets all worked up and produces lighting. I almost lost my home about 18 years ago and the firecrews fought so hard to bring that fire under control. It was caused by high wind that took down a powerline and the dry grass caught fire and took half the hill we live on. The fire came right up to the house and a picture window broke from the heat but they saved the house. I put my dogs and my cat and pictures in my car and I could hardly drive away I was crying so hard. When all the smoke cleared our home was still standing. One of the firemen said it was a good thing we kept our lawn as green as we have because it burned right up to the edge of the lawn. I am so thankful to those men and women who stayed around for several days mopping up the little fires from the down trees and stumps. For months after every time I'd smell smoke it would all come flashing back. Your photo of the dark gray clouds are pretty, hope they stay friendly.

Dee 07-26-2010 05:34 PM

Those are unusual clouds. We've had thunder, wind and pouring down rain this week end and caused a lot of damage. No damage in this borough though.

Lisanne 07-26-2010 07:05 PM

So how is it going for you? Do you have power so you can answer? I hope all's well.

I've never heard of that type of cloud, nor seen it before. Thanks for posting the info!

I thought it looked like bunches of intestines jumbled together.

Chasing Hawk 07-26-2010 07:06 PM

I read on our local TV website that there were 25 fires yesterday, all were being tended to and were small in size.

Annz 07-26-2010 08:18 PM

Wow!! Those are great pictures. Nothing like nature.

I have friends who live at CRR near Bend. Golf size hail was predicted for their area. We've camped at Billy Chinook and have been in those T-storms. Hope you didn't have damage from the storm.

Wish I was a painter, artrist - beautiful.

JudithAnn 07-26-2010 11:47 PM
