What can you do to cure and stop your finger tips from being rough and snagging every thing that you touch. I wear gloves when I am at work. They just feel so terrible.
When I take a break, I put some Eucerin on my finger tips and put them in plastic gloves for an hour or so. I hate wearing them, too, but if I am watching tv chillin it gives me something to do. I'm always rubbing the finger tips. I do this after I've used harsh cleansers, too. My daughter uses chap stick, she calls it waxing those cracks so they can't get bigger. Hope you find your answers. Blessings, Ruth

When your hands are real dry, use fine sand paper, then use Hoof Maker..And I'm not kidding about this. I learned about this many years ago and am still using it, especially after a day out back in the yard. Soak in warm water and soap, rinse, almost dry, and then slop on Hoof Maker. It'll make your hands soft and smooth.

Horses do have great products!! I have the same problem. Here in Montana the air is very dry. Never had such dry hands when we lived in Washington state. Thanks for the tip on Hoof Maker, I am going to try it.
I use some stuff called Blue Goo. It's in with the foot stuff at Walmart. Small jar last a long time and works better than anything I've tried on my cuticles, elbows and heels.
Eucerin (original jar) or Vaseline on the fingertips at night, with cotton gloves worn on the hands to keep it in place while you sleep.
I have heard of Lotil (a cream) , others use superglue to hold them shut until they heal. I have not tried either one.

I love the Aquaphor too. As a retired nurse I can tell you we used that for the premies skin problems. Also two other suggestions: wear rubber[latex etc] gloves whenever you are putting your hands in water, and two, keep hand lotion by every sink and use it when you wash.

Try some A and D ointment

Bag Balm found in farm stores is wonderful. We got this hint from a man who works with concrete. He says it is only thing that helps. Our son tried it and was amazed.
I use Glysomed. It has glycerin, silicone, and chamomile. My hands were so rough I could use them to sand wood but now they are as smooth as a baby's bum. I use it every time I wash my hands. It is made by Blistex in the US so you should be able to get it easily.
It's also good for your feet too. |
Bag Balm stinks is my only complaint.
I use Udder cream and put on plastic glove that we use during Mom's personal care. Helps the emolionts to work into the skin. Keep it up for a couple day/night. Should help.
Emu oil with vitamin E is very good, no smell, not greasy, but pricey. $12 for 2 oz. bottle. Lasts a long time. PM me if you need info.
I use rubber fingers they work great and once a month I wax my hands to keep them soft & use good lotion everyday.
I have been plagued with dry fingers all of my life. They get so bad that they crack open and bleed. I heard about a cream called O'Keefes working hands cream. They sell it at Lowes. It is about 7.50 per container. It is sold near the paint counter with all of the solvents. It is the greatest stuff. My fingers are no longer cracked and sore and best of all, it doesn't hurt when I am trying to hand sew.
I use Bag Balm. I think it is the same as udder cream. They sell it here in New England in the quilt shops.
Corn Huskers Lotion especially at night with gloves on while sleeping. And if I remember, plastic gloves when working outside under my warm gloves and inside when cleaning.
'Gloves In A Bottle' is a terrific product! Sometimes Walgreens will carry it so I stock up when I find it. There is a store locator and details on the product on their website: http://www.glovesinabottle.com/ I live in Colorado where the air is unbeleivabley dry. Until I found this product, I spent every winter with bandaids on half my finger tips from cracked skin!
I use bag balm with gloves on at night.
I put on the balm for cracked heels and wear cotton gloves over it when I go to bed. As I've had a genetic dry skin condition, naturally all my life, I find this works as I am sensitive to soap and perfumes, let alone harsh chemicals.
File your skin with a nail file then use a very good, heavy duty, perfume free hand cream. Especially use it every night. I really like "The Honey Guy" hand cream. It even works for people who have excema. You can get it on line. It's the best I've ever used.
I use castor oil, it heals from the inside out, a little goes a long way. When the girls were little and we lived in Missouri, I used it in winter to take the reddness out of their cheeks.
I have bag balm, udder cream, coco butter, some stuff used for diabetic for their feet. I dont' really need then all the time but every now and then my hands and feet get dry and i will use any of the above.
Slather your hands with Bag Balm and put on a pair of disposable latex gloves for about an hour. Fixes em right up
