Yes, our leaves are changing rapidly, the Sumac is gorgeous. We have had two days of solid cold rain, (Had to climb the ladder to get the leaves out of the gutter), had rain in the basement. Us Minnesotans say "Thank God, this could have been snow." 1" of rain equals 12" of snow. Our son and daughter had 5" of rain yesterday. We had about three. Think about shoveling that!!!!! But, hey, it's a'comin'!!!!!! We have to mow up the leaves every day now because they are starting to fall - hence Fall, I guess.

But we still have Indian Summer to look forward to. That is when you have everything in the yard battened down, chairs packed away, tables put away, everything is ready for the winter and lo and behold 80*, bright warm sun. It is wonderful. It is generally after a freeze and thee is one last blast and then the hard freeze. Lasts a few days and then we know we have to batten ourselves down. Sometimes we don't get it until November, hunting season. Edie

Has fall arrived in your home town????????

Having lived in Cincinnati don't blink, because I know that is how fast the weather can change. It's still in the 90's here but it feels good after all the 100's

grannypat7925 09-24-2010 07:03 AM

I am about 50 miles north and I was wondering the same thing altho' the weatherman says cool down for the weekend.

Homespun 09-24-2010 07:52 AM

Here in Tennessee we are still in 90's for today

adrianlee 09-24-2010 08:13 AM

It's here in NE Washington. We even had to turn on a space heater last night as it did get a wee chilly. Leaves are changing colors, big groups of Canadian geese are busy working out that flight pattern, the giant "V", then they go looking for fields to nibble in. Yep, fall is here.

kwiltkrazy 09-24-2010 08:17 AM

Yes, cooler days, and definitely cooler nights. Leaves are changing color.

marlene tarzwell 09-24-2010 09:22 AM

Not here in SC either, we still are getting 90 degrees weather. Tired of it.

Minnisewta 09-24-2010 10:01 AM

We went from 90's to 60's so I guess fall is here. cjomomma! I live in Minnesota and I don't want snow yet. It comes in Nov. and doesn't leave until April. I get so sick and tired of my winter coat I could just #@*&%!

decky 09-24-2010 12:50 PM

Well in southern Minnesota it is cool today in the 50's. But yesterday we had anywhere from 4 to 9 inches of rain in the area. We are having major flooding in towns around the area. Some towns they can't leave or get into unless you are in a boat. Alot of the roads are closed because of water over the roads, part of a old bridge has just broken up so (one of two ways to get into the town). It's really a mess and they are saying we can get more rain tomorrow.

quiltingcousin 09-24-2010 01:04 PM

We still have about 6 weeks before fall arrives in the Phoenix area. While we have enjoyed some nice mornings (70's) this week, another hot spell of 106 is forecasted for this weekend. I can hardly wait for our fall.....about the time the goblins come!

I had to check on the computer this AM for a neighbor whose wife works in Iowa and is coming home and they said 35 and 52 are shut down. It's been many a year since we have had anything like this! So she will be taking back roads back to the cities! How bout those winds??? Could whisk you away and never be seen again!!!!!

Our gas and electric company, Xcel Energy (it used to be Northern States Power) had a commercial for wintertime. I loved it. It was from Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" (theme song from "Apocalypse Now" and it was "Welcome to Winter - In Minne-Sota. Here is your fuel bill - ha ha ha haaaaa!"

So I hope the water recedes there pretty fast. I heard on the news last night that the water is coming up out of the ground because of the saturation and the water table. We had puddles all over in our yard - Wouldn't go down! Thank God we only had a little water in the basement. Cleaning gutters again today though! Edie

Well it's spring here! Part of the State I live is still coping with major flooding from winter rains but right here, right now, the sun is shining, the birch trees in my backyard are budding green and the cherry blossoms are in flower.

I'm looking foward to some sun on my face.

dotcomdtcm 09-24-2010 01:25 PM

It's pledsant here in NYC. I am taking the air conditioners out until summer. I have labor available tomorrow. That means a heat wave next month!

Pati- in Phx 09-24-2010 01:40 PM

Actually it is the Fall Equinox, the point where the daylight and dark hours of the day are equal. <G>
Now they call it the first day of fall, actually it is the middle of the astronomical autumn.
The equinoxes and solstices divide the year into 4 segments that traditional were the midpoints of the seasons. The points when the relative position of the sun 'changes' and can be seen with even primitive key stones like StoneHenge and so on.

So the "start" is just an easy way to say the equinox is here. <G>

We have three paper birch in our front yard and they are turning gold now, but with the winds, there aren't many leaves left. I envy you now, but when we get our spring, you can envy us!!!!! Actually, I love the four seasons and they come at just the right time. buddings for Easter, snow for Christmas, bloody hot for the 4th of July and perfect for the little goblins on Hallowe'en and cold for Thanksgiving. Ain't it grand!!!! (I don't say ain't. My mom says there ain't no such word as ain't! And she's 94 and knows!!!!!!! Enjoy your Spring. Edie

We've had our first frost! I would be quite happy with 90* weather for a few days!

dotcomdtcm 09-24-2010 02:50 PM

Collect those leaves & coat them with glitter. Photo here somewhere! Who has time for housework?

Latrinka 09-24-2010 04:56 PM

No indeed, it may say fall on calendar, but that's it, still in upper 90's here! I want to change my name, can I do that and how?

Annz 09-24-2010 05:01 PM

Not yet but it is coming.

fireworkslover 09-24-2010 05:48 PM

Yes, it's here in MN. Woke to 43 this morning. Rained all day yesterday and chilly and quite windy today. The sun finally peaked out this afternoon around 4. It's dark by 7:30 pm, tho. Leaves are changing, especially on the maples.

carolynjo 09-24-2010 06:51 PM

Nope! No fall here yet. We have had 55 days of 90+ heat. I am so ready for cooler weather!

wudbquilter 09-24-2010 09:11 PM

have yet to have summer leaves have turned and already had a trace of snow

Dee 09-25-2010 12:25 PM

Leaves are turning, but still in the 80's. However we are suppose to see some cooler weather next week. Can't believe Sept. is coming to an end just a few days. This year went so fast. I only remember turning the calendar pages to the next month.

Olivia's Grammy 09-25-2010 12:49 PM

It's 91 here today. I wish GA would invite fall to come for a visit. I am ready for cool weather. I've had headaches almost every day since June due to the heat.

Tussymussy 09-25-2010 12:57 PM

Could someone send their sun and warmth over here, please? Warmish sunny days with a chill edge on the breeze but could enough to wear mittens at night!

trupeach1 09-25-2010 01:05 PM

Finally a day without AC however I now have fans in the windows.

Let's try halfies. You take some of the hot and I'll take some of your cold.

Tussymussy 09-25-2010 01:40 PM

Sounds good to me...... :)

zz-pd 09-26-2010 05:43 PM

SaraSewing 09-26-2010 07:30 PM

Here in western Wash. we had a strange day where it was very warm & humid first thing this morn. We rarely get humidity here. Even in the rain. Felt very odd for here. It's usually foggy over the lake & very crisp & cool with maples turning all colors. They're just starting to think about turning now. Then we may drop temps for a few days. We just don't know how to dress these days.
