the northern bathroom tissue that was "quilted" by ladies using knitting needles!

that one kinda sorta made me laugh every time i saw it.

zennia 12-09-2018 07:26 AM

I was in love with the Alka-Selzer boy

WANNABEE 12-09-2018 07:40 AM

I'm sure, everyone remembers Mikey and the cereal.

Tartan 12-09-2018 07:41 AM

Some of the new commercial that after they play I ask myself , what was that advertising?

Kitsie 12-09-2018 08:26 AM

Miller Beer - its the little song.

Quilter 53 12-09-2018 08:52 AM

It's not that old, but I love the Subaru commercial with the grandparents, the giant tree that has to come down and the new dining room table. That one makes me tear up every time.

Oh, and the one with the kid playing Darth Vader and uses his light saber at the family car while dad is inside the house and hits the remote.

I have that reaction often.

I like any commercials with dogs. But I’ve come to the conclusion that the new commercials are not geared to my target group.

SusieQOH 12-09-2018 10:50 AM

I rarely watch anything that has commercials anymore!
But I will tell you I'm so sick of "Flo" I could scream :D

My mother like the one with the dog talking about smelling bacon, and it was Beggin' Strips.

Sometimes the music in a TV ad is so striking. Several times I have googled the ad to see the name and performer of the song.

rryder 12-09-2018 02:27 PM

"Plop, plop, fizz, fizz. Oh, what a relief it is!" and also "I can't believe I ate the whole thing"

I hate the commercial with the little girl complaining she has no matching socks. I feel this is a negative example for kids to see. I think she is just a brat. IT is for some kind of a closet system.

SillySusan 12-09-2018 03:30 PM

Hi Bearisgray, I've been missing your wonderful observations on life. Glad to see you back!

One of my favorite commercials was that little dog who was having a nervous breakdown about where to put his bone to keep it safe. He'd bury it and then dig it up, and put it somewhere else. Finally he put it in the bank... the ad's sponsor's, of course. I can't remember the bank, but I surely remember that poor little doggie!

JustAbitCrazy 12-09-2018 03:38 PM

Do any of you remember the Oscar Meyer Weiner song and commercial? My parrot whistles that tune. (So do I---that's how he learned it! :D)
Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Meyer weiner,
That is what I'd truly like to be-ee.-ee
For if I were an Oscar Meyer weiner,
Everyone would be in love with me!

Me too. I could hear only that one only. I use to love the Hamms commercial with the bear in the boat. Loved it.

Jingle 12-09-2018 04:16 PM

Now days I still love the hershey kisses ringing like bells. My most favorite one is the M&Ms running into Santa and they all faint finding out the other does exist.

quiltingcandy 12-09-2018 04:57 PM

I love the Budweiser Clydesdales commercials. Thinking of songs with the commercials, the first one that came to mind was the Hamms Beer and the Land of the Sky Blue Water tune. But the one I liked the most was the one for Coke, "I'd like to teach the world to sing...

As I recall, that was known as the "tissue issue" at the time! Northern was made by James River Corp and they got lots of letters from quilters.

I think it's for the Subaru car, there's a bunch of them with a dog family (retrievers?). They are really cute.

Battle Axe 12-10-2018 04:24 AM

Saw one yesterday with dogs. It was for E-trade and it featured a man serving some dogs at a table along a river. Then a boat load of poodles goes by and the poodle looks them over. Three roteweilers beging served dinner and it says something to the effect that some "Dogs live better than you do". Because of e-Trade.

I've only seen it once and I get Flo and that dreadful Chevy guy all the time.

Whoever does the Geico commercials has a wonderful sense of humor--sometimes better than others. A recent one is of a young fellow doing chair exercises among young women who are actively exercising. Love it as we have recently started a chair exercise program at our local senior center!

The Coca Cola commercial from many tears ago with Steeler Mean Joe Greene and the little boy.

Especially the perfume commercials around the holidays. They make no sense. Why are women always jumping in water???

Me too, some do not make any sense at all.

I used to love the lizards on the Budweiser ads. Also there was one with a pug, it got away from its human and was chased all over town, wound up in the back of a taxi. Can't remember what it was for, can't find it on YT.

I no longer have a TV so I can't comment on the current crop. The Budweiser holiday ad always made me homesick, it was filmed in S. Woodstock, VT, not too far from where I live. I was usually down south at the beach at the holidays and wished I could have a snowy Christmas!! Now I am here year round - yikes!!

I forgot about that 14 month old boy investment genius in the eTrade ads!!

I loved the Studny twins for Godfather's Pizza. I've been remembering it for 30+ years.

luvstoquilt 12-10-2018 06:31 AM

Years ago there was one for Carnation Slender that had us rolling in the floor. Today it would be banned. Most of the ones now are boring. Especially Flo...can’t stand that one.

I love the Energizer Rabbit.

My cousin used to have her TV on most of the time. Her dog would run to the TV when her favorite commercial came on! Can't remember what the commercial was though. The Clydesdales are always memorable for me.

Amen! Their commercials cease to be funny anymore.

madamekelly 12-10-2018 11:06 AM

This is my all time favorite commercial. It is very reminiscent of my learning to drive a stick shift. Lol.

I love to watch the TV shows that has a conglomeration of funny commercials from all over the world. I get a big kick out the way other countries portray things.

Although, since the advent of DVR's I no longer watch the commercials on TV. Like a number of you have said, "what were they advertising?" comes to mind often.

However, there are a lot of TV commercials that I do like from the past. One of them is the ad for 'Accent" MSG. The advertisement said 'to wake up the flavor in your foods'. It showed a close-up of a lady holding a whole, raw chicken in her hand and then she slapped it and said, "Wake up". What made it so funny to me was when she slapped the chicken, they made it sound like a really great smack. That commercial was in the early 70's and, of course, MSG is no longer used, but the commercial was hysterical to me.

I do have a lot of favorite commercials that I remember, but that is the only one that I can think of right now.

mac 12-10-2018 12:35 PM

Okay, I just found out that I could view 'funny commercials' on You Tube. Some of them are hilarious. This is definitely going to be my "daily laughter place. Sometimes you just need a 'laughter' break.

I have 2 dachshunds (I've had as many as 6 at one time). The Oscar Meyer song is the family theme. :D

I cut the cable TV years ago and don't miss a *thing* about commercials. I think the last time I liked one was the Chuck Wagon little wagon guy driving in the kitchen with a dog chasing him. If we see commercials these days, they all seem so very stupid. I have no idea if that is the generation gap or just the advertisers aiming lower than they used to. Ugh.
