That's good to know - I didn't realize I could call their bank and ask something like that!

CoyoteQuilts 04-29-2011 10:06 PM

I did that myself last November. I just put it through the bank. You can call the bank that the checks are drawn on and find out if the money is in that account. Then get them in the bank fast.....

I would cash them all. The money is as good to you as anyone else. Besides that is an extra $12. MORE FABRIC!!!

Of course they're all at 3 different banks. I almost wish I hadn't left a msg with the $28 customer... now if she doesn't get back to me I'd feel funny trying to cash it... If I were just more organized I wouldn't be dealing with this right now.

They are legal tender. But you are correct if they would come back NSF you would pay a fee. Before you cash them you can call the bank to see if funds are available. I use to have to call on checks for a convenience store. People don't call back because they are buzy it is not something you did, or they just don't think it is that important, so do not feel bad about that. Call the bank it is written on and you can ask the bank if there is funds and if they will still honor it. They will tell you and then you can avoid the possibility that it would come back NSF or something else. Otherwise you can write them a letter and explain you can take it to small claims court and the judge will make them honor it.

Hope you get your money, because they know they owe it. Good luck.

No, do not send them back. then you will have nothing to prove the check was made to you. They can just destroy the check and then you will be out for sure. You can always take them to small claims court and it does not cost that much and if you win, which you will they will have to pay the court cost.. but send them a letter with out the check that you intend to do this if the check is not honored.

Oh what a predicament. For sure I would notify them. What if they money is not there? You would both pay a fee. Most of us here would understand and resend it. So send a letter with a copy of the check and give them a few days to get you paid. Then if you don't hear, You may deposit it and take it to their bank. That way, they can tell you if funds are available before either acquires a fee. Hope it works out. HUGS

I agree with ClovePatch. Thats what you can do.
There is 180 day "stale" date that can be honored so they might not be cashed after that time.
If you cash them and they come back NSF or account closed or some other reason, you may get a charge back fee for processing along with the amount of the check. The chance of that fee on a small check may not be "worth it".
To avoid that go to the bank they were drawn off and cash them. Even if you don't have an account there. They will honor them because they are "on us" checks. Thats if the account is in good standing.

hope you followed thru on these. They should be good. I also do craft shows and I can honestly say I have never gotten a bad check. On the whole, most people are honest. At least that is what I have found out. What part of
Wis are you? I am in Oshkosh and cabin in Asthelstane, Wis.
