I re-made my bike bags and needed to make them waterproof. I used some kind of no sew iron on bonding stuff like Heat n Bond. I just ironed it onto the fabric, but didn't iron it onto anothe piece of fabric. Not sure how well it would wash.

I would use pul fabric, as already mentioned.

Back in the days when I was making diaper bags, I used flannel backed vinyl tablecloths as lining.

I think the water proof vinyl should be wiped, not washed in a machine.

You have several options. Joanns has 5 gauges of clear vinyl. I tend to use the thinnest for bags and inside baby bibs because it is the most pliable. They also have an opaque one. Another option is the 'babyville' fabrics. There is a solid white oe along with the nursery prints. They have a coating making them easily wipeable. I use these for the inside of diaper bags and cold pack grocery bags.

WalMart carries many thicknesses of vinyl...just ask for vinyl tablecloth.....they are on a rack in big rolls. You choose what MM thickness you want.

I just purchased vinyl at a quilt shop. Thought it was a little thin but it worked great. Guess it doesn't have to be thick to be effective.

I use clear vinyl a lot. I buy it at wal-mart. comes on a wide roll. and is sold by the yard. I get 1/2 yd and it is about 18" by maybe 50 " lots of stuff can be made with that much. I think that cost about $2. or less. Not expensive at all. For inside a bag I would get a shower curtain as it is lighter weight. What I get is more for in a wallet to put ID under or for using as a flap over make-up brushes.in a roll type bag etc. where you need something a little stiffer. Like someone else said I would use a heavy freezer baggie to try first.

For myself, I never thought I could DIY a bag.

If you can find a clear plastic table cloth, that's what I used. Its not the super thin one either. Used it to cover my brushes in my makeup bag.

I've been making these fun, recycled zipper pouches in lots of sizes. (Snickers,Jelly beans, frozen corn, birdseed, packages etc),
I've been using the fusible vinyl on the outside, and on some, PUL fabric, on others regular quilting cotton for a lining. Both work well, but I have only used a damp cloth to clean so far. No washing machine or dryer.
I bought a whole bolt of the fusible vinyl at a great sale price, and have been trying to use it up.
